Really surprised by this. I always thought he was the funniest regular on 8 out of 10 cats; he was also the first comedian to play Wembley Stadium as he did the warm up for Baddiel and Newman.

A really funny guy. Only saw him live once and he was great. Really quick witted.

One of the few comedians who could break Jimmy Carr on the panel shows.

Offline mills_and_bhuna

Jeez. I had to read that about 4 times before it registered.
Definitely in my top 3 of stand up comics and in a class of his own on panel shows.
RIP

I missed out on seeing him as I couldn't afford a ticket at the time. Missed out on Sean Hughes as well.

I won’t lie, i am gutted by this.  I always looked out for his shows and missed his performance in Piccadilly many years ago.

He was a phenomenal comedian and so quick witted.  His carrot in the box performance was just brilliant:

Apparently not true, though often claimed, as he only came on half time to entertain the crowd while they arranged the set for the next sketch (was also the Arena and not the Stadium).

I thought he was much funnier on his own than on panel shows.  Not met him myself but I know someone who knew him who said he was hilarious 24/7.

Acted and wrote films as well, not just a run of the mill comic.

I was convinced he came on before them. I've got the show somewhere I think Rob Newman is first on stage then on a BMX.

I really liked 15 Storey's High which the BBC seems to have buried along with Early Doors why aren't they on iPlayer but Gimme Gimme Gimme is which contains a shit load of licensed music.

Also what people forget is was around since the early 90s of not late 80s, but seemed to be a household name in the early 00s. Definitely a veteran.

David Baddiel debunked it on 8ootcdc and said it wasn't the case that Sean Lock was the 1st to appear. Rather than get in the way of good publicity, Sean just went with it that he had been the 1st.

He also had the great joke (Paraphrased):
"How many women does it take to change a light bulb?"

None. They just sit in the dark moaning.

It felt like a few years ago cancer was in its way out and with the exception of stage 4 spread and rare ones, you'd be OK. Having lost 3 people to it last year, can confirm it's still a difficult cunt to shake.

Total cunt. I knew a guy who had it in is testicles, thought they had cleared it. Luckily the doctor was on the ball enough (pun intended) to get a chest x ray. You guessed it it spread to his lungs and he died a few months later.

Think there will be a wave of this now with the lack of face to face GP appointments... Hard enough to spot in normal circumstances, but over the phone diagnosis will make matters much worse.

Really was a stupid decision. You can't find out much from a Skype; to bring it back to punting it's like comparing webcam to actually having sex with someone.

But I try to see the good side and hopefully it will make men more likely to get tested and also I think people are now aware it is largely invisible. Like I said with Sean Lock you couldn't tell when he was on camera.

hmm ... I needed a f2f with my GP and I got it in a few days. Had to play along with the electronic consultation system but that made it happen.

Very unfortunate that a buddy of mine was diagnosed with cancer in January but there was no delay in getting that diagnosis.

He went straight on to chemo. Needs an op to remove the tumour and is waiting for that, which is hard to take, but the theatres all got shut down because, as has been discussed on here, theatres need ICU cover, and the ICUs were full up with covid patients.  :(
