You can still install apps from other sources so they have their own server for you to download the apps from. It'll just be a bit more buggering about.

I think a lot of people use DuckDuckGo just cos they’re fed up with Google collecting and selling every search term they use.

That's just the search engine.

This change on apps is to do with the App Store used to distribute their apps.

Thanks for clarifying. I use the AW desktop version even on my phone. Does Seeking require an app? I can't imagine Apple allowing anything remotely tit-illating. Does it matter? The Tinder and POF apps are ok but they won't get banned.

Ah! That explains why, whenever I do a search on something, for instance coffee makers, my Yahoo email account gets inundated with ads for coffee makers within a day or two. Always wondered how they knew.

It's amazing what Google tracks. They must have amazing profiles on people.

There was a news item the other day confirming what we know tgat travel sites will offer higher prices when a search is made from an Apple product. Don’t forget that for almost any website now you click a button agreeing to cooking as well — “to send you relevant advertising” — among other things. I use Amazon a lot, prices are good, but sometimes it’s obvious that the best price offered is a load of crap. Clear cookies and search for it on Google maybe using word Amazon and get a better price. “Targeted advertising” is also used to try to influence how you vote, location, spending patterns, biases from searches that sort of stuff. Using a vpn all the time works but blocks quite a lot of sites of course so not always practical. Worth it for bigger purchases though.

You can change your Google settings to stop personalised search and personalised YouTube too. I suspect they still track what you do, but they don't use it to provide personalised search results.

So Google will ban sugar daddy apps, but still allow dating apps like tinder.  But these banned apps i would think are unlikely to go away from google, but suppose could change there approach, and class them self as a dating app

You can disable location tracking on your Google settings.

A bit time consuming. Every time your clear cookies, Google will ask you to agree or go down the long list of customised options (and that’s only the ones they’re up front about). Practically every site you visit collects data about you. Mass data is the new economy.

Youtube now wants your credit card details to show you are old enough to watch certain film trailers.

I do that from my phone settings. On the other hand it’s useful sometimes when travelling abroad. All ‘security’ measures have upsides and downsides (no pun intended — the altitude trackers don’t seem that accurate yet…).

It is a pain in the arse, but only for 20 or 30 seconds, not to agree to cookies. Every site must give the option to accept all cookies, those you are happy with or only essential cookies whatever they are.
The rest can be disabled easily.
