I was wondering what Gareth Southgate gleaned from watching the England teams performances over the last four games.
Cos I have to admit I see anything that any other country in the world needs to fear from us.
What a dismal show tonight and let’s face it. We still keep thinking of ourselves as being one of the top teams in the world.
We aren’t.
Take a look at the silverware in the trophy rooms.

Well done Hungary. Well taken goals and you played with a bit of heart.
England……. Beaten by a team that has a player who just got relegated with Barnsley.

Useless.

WTF
Got back from the pub. Someone told me it was four nil. Thought we had won!!!
Did not see that coming.
Germany 5 Italy 2.
Looks like England reverted to type!
No one will fear us now.

Out not watching the footy
Then mentioned 4-0  :yahoo: sligthly
Then it dawned we got beat WTF, r u having a laarf  :scare: :dash:

Southgate will be brimming with the usual bollox platitudes
& the blazers will back him
#qatar-2022-quarters-semis@best

What the blazers should do is hire Pochettino or Bielsa
On a 6 month contract
Forget Las Malvenas for a mo
Both are / will be available
Mourinho as an option

A mahoosive contract with win bonuses
Shit or bust strategy
Rather than predictable drawn out failure

Where would Southgate be if he wasnt England manager ?
Premiership - nope, Championship - maybe, 1st div my bet

England 0 Hungary 4

Piss poor effort by a rudderless and disjointed bunch of tarts.
I laid down on the sofa to watch the game and was fortunate enough to fall asleep, woke up when it was 1-0 then fell asleep again until just now, i'm grateful for small mercies, worst home defeat since 1928 apparently when we ironically lost 4-0 to Hungary

69% possession with 10 shots on goal but only 2 on target, looking at the player ratings Bellingham only got 3.1/10 and he was our highest rated player  :dash:

Southgate has been poor the last 4 or 5 games but Pochettino or Bielsa  :scare:. Pochettino has been in charge at some big clubs and has failed to deliver silverware consistently. ( one league title at PSG and 1 French cup with all their resources is not great ) As for Bielsa this a man who nearly got Leeds Utd relegated, who gives all his interviews through an interpreter. It looks like we will be stuck with Southgate for the World Cup  :dash: . We have been down the route of foreign managers before without success,  if they are going to replace Southgate it needs to be with an English manager . The problem is good English managers are a rarity.  :dash: Let's be honest after a few good results in the Euros ( a tournament we should have won as England's games were nearly all played on home soil) the bubble has well and truly burst. The usual excuse of tired players will be rolled out. If that's the case then you are going to have to reduce the amount of games these players play. Reduce the size of the Premier league, drop the League Cup,  and reduce the amount of European games played but we all know that's never going to happen. It is totally pointless playing this Nations league tournament in a World Cup year. On current form we will struggle to beat Wales, USA and Iran and will be home before the postcards.

To be fair, it was one of those funny old games.
England dominated for most of the game, and had plenty of chances to score.
Hungary had 4 breakaways and scored 4 goals, 3 of which Pickford probably would have saved.
Stone's send off decision was unbelievable.

Sorry, but were you and I watching the same game.  :D

The best chance England had of scoring was when that Hungarian chap nearly headed the ball past his goalkeeper.

Possession is fuck all if you can't convert it into a goal.
As for Pickford. Did'nt he once play for Sunderland. Least said about him the better.  :D

The sending off...........That ref had a poor game as far as I am concerned and I have seen him have poor games before. He sent Stones off because he thought he saw something he did'nt rather than see something he did. What happened to line officials giving their view as in rugby. Lets hope sense is seen by replay and the red card gets burned.

As for change of manager. No point. Lets get the world cup over with and go from there.
When we get beat, we can always blame a long drawn out season, it was the heat, no air con in the hotel and our dietary needs were not sufficiently met.

Don't have periods..
Result means nothing..
Not worth playing hard as you might get injured and miss the world cup..
If your a certainty play mediocre..
If your wanting to get in the side for world cup then play as if your life depended on it..

Results are everything. England will now be tumbling down the FIFA rankings and thus be seeded lower in all future tournaments. When they do the draws for upcoming tournaments we'll be in "Pot 2" or lower and find ourselves struggling to qualify, and if we do qualify, we'll be in a group of death and have a difficult path to the latter stages of the tournaments.

Southgate is badly fucking up our chances in tournaments beyond Qatar with this string of disastrous results and the cheeky fucker won't even be in charge then.

Totally disagree with you

Rather have fully intense squad rather than injuries in pointless matched and rankings

Rankings will be rectified with full intensity squad achieving results in matches that matter

It's definitely not coming home with this clueless Southgate, who's more concerned with wokey knee gesture than actually getting his team to play attacking football. And the worst part, his still in charge for two more years and possibly might have another contract extension since his the FA's ideal yes man...

Extremely far from clueless...
A very good role model and decent manager..
A man who takes a interest off the pitch wanting community cohesion for everyone as a big unified pro England supporting unit..

The problem is that his strategy works when we are winning. Dread to think what will happen if our boys do badly in Qatar. Won't have the end of season excuse this time!!!

Far as I'm concerned the midfield should be world class.. the Italian midfield is, and the results they generate are there for everyone to see..
England's midfield is not that level or has ever been, apart from 1 player Mr Gascoigne..
So I'm not surprised about no concurrent wins against top quality opposition..

If the Italian midfield is world class how come they have failed to qualify for this year's World Cup and the last one.  :unknown: Since Southgate has been manager he has called up far too many players to the England squad. Most of them are not up to the standard required.

They won the euros because of that midfield
Even at its worst better than England midfield at its best

tend to agree with you, this competition is meaningless, england will do ok in the world cup.

Anyone else here old enough to remember Hungary's drubbing of an over confident England at Wembley 6 -3 in 1953 ? I vividly recall my dismay at hearing the result whilst eating afternoon tea as a 14-year- old with my parents. A dismay shared by the country in general.

Walter Winterbottom was the England manager and the brilliant Hungarian forward was called Puscas, or something like that.

It made such an impression on me I can even recall what we were eating and the design of the crockery.

Was distinctly less shocked and surprised this time. At least we could console ourselves with the cricket result.

Phillips is out of his depth and shouldn't be in the squad. Southgate was praised to the heavens during the Euros. Yes we had a fortunate run through to the final. But it's the closest we have been to winning a trophy since 1966. Give the guy a break. Lost a game and now he is getting battered. Nobody else will take the job. We will be ok by the time the world cup arrives

Wasn't born when that game took place but indeed it was Puskas who was rated at the time as one of the world's greatest players. Short and stocky he scored 84 goals in 85 international games for Hungary and played for the great Real Madrid team in the 1950's 1960's  :hi:

Puskas was one of the true greats. My father saw him play for Hungary against Scotland at Hampden, Scotland lost!    :D

I remember 1953 as my Aunty had the only TV in the street and we were able to watch the famous 1953 cup final and also the international England v Hungary on a little 9" TV.

The English team included Stanley Mathews, one of my boyhood heroes.
Mathew's F.A. Cup winning Blackpool teammates Stan Mortenson and Ernie Taylor were also in the team.
The team also included two great defenders, Billy Wright from Wolves and Alf Ramsay from Spurs.
We thought England were invincible.

However the Hungarian team were Olympic gold medalists and had some great players including Ferenc Puskas, and they were one of the first teams to adopt the 'total football' compared to the traditional English strict positional formation.

I remember when we ran to the back field to play football after the match we had a new name to add to our list of heroes, and Puskas went on to join the great Real Madrid team of the 50's/60's which included the great Di Stefano and Gento.
