Squire.
Put it into context. You can have a UK plc mission lasting a good many years or
 a couple of Lockheed F35
That the RAF  Johnnies can throw about.
War will kill the human race before anything else.
Sorry but values are wrong.
How’s your housekeeping budget?

I've been on the last royal yacht, the Britannia. Because I'm a peasant, I never sailed on it, but took a tour at the Leith docks, Edinburgh.  :)”

You had to pay?  Did you keep the ticket as a souvenir?

This Nation, including Scotland. Has benefited immensely as a result of the Royal Yacht’s use.
I would think the penny might have dropped by now.

Keep winding yourself up

it is not a royal Yacht, it will not be used by the Royals for Holidays, honeymoons etc. and it will not be named after DoE

I assume that it will be used by the Royals for visits abroad, much the same as with Britannia.  :unknown:

To assume makes an ass out of you and me.
You really have it bad about the Royal Family don’t you?

I would sign a petition to scrap the Lords. Its certainly a gravy train with too many snouts in the trough..

A former colleague from long ago is now the Lord Speaker of the Lords. IMO he's trying to make up for the fact that he was never made a Minister when he was an MP. He seems to be the same very driven person that I remember from long ago.

I’m sure the Lord McFall will be delighted to know his colleague gave him the “big up” on UKP! :dash:

They dont wind me up at all. I have respect for HM Betty and the late Prince Phillip. Not wishing ill on him at all, but supposing Charles does not live for long after becoming king, and William becomes king.  It gets even sillier if he was demised, and they start to look a bit redundant..... :)

The Prince of Wales.
The Duke of Cambridge.
Prince George of Cambridge.

Prince Louis of Cambridge.

subtle difference is it will be used for trips abroad for trade purposes and PR  and may include royal family members at the request of the government

not to be used by Royals for their own benefit

Apparently HMQ has not allowed Bozza to name the ship The Prince Phillip :hi:

Reck Phill would have wanted to name it Bismarck
To make him feel at home, for a bit of a laarf & to promote a reaction

This has revived itself no doubt because after Phil the Greek died there is a wish to "Do something nice for the Queen" There is a truth here that can't be denied. The boat is not even on the drawing board yet and buy the time the build has gone through all it's stages, from design to fit out, the Queen will be dead. Anno Domini will take it's course.

It’s for us the nation. If you don’t want to join the party then that’s up to those who object.
I hope you can stomach it

Now this might cause a bit of a problem
Especially if he's in a court / banged up in the US
He's only had ten thousand men ..... allegedly  :D

It's not a Royal Yacht any more, HMQ and Chaz have clearly said they want nothing to do with it. The latest announcement doesn't contain the word "Royal" or any such link and they've stopped saying it will be named after Phil too.

The sad thing is that for the money being mooted it will be the smallest yacht in almost every harbour where the oligarchs gather so will make us look rather pitiful...

Ironically this sharpens the business case for it.  The Queen has neither the ability nor inclination to undergo any royal tours as she sees out her days minus her consort.  No one but no one would think forking out £200m for a summer cruise vessel for Charles and Camilla would be a good use of public funds.  Andrew used to be a Trade Envoy and a Captain, though I doubt anyone would clamour for his hands on the tiller.

So a national flagship of the ROYAL Navy, available for multiple government and commercial uses, would achieve more and boost shipbuilding in the UK, whist also being available for a limited number of royal state occasions.

But the PM knows that badging the £200 mil procurement as a "royal yacht" will a) stroke the belly of Conservatives and the kind of people who spend their hours slating woke snowflakes online and b) rile the fuck out of people who self-classify as woke snowflake online.  Win win is won.

The way things are going the first port of call will probably be Hong Kong...

I'd love to see the business case and I am confident we'll see it any day now...  :sarcastic:

Building a single low-rent wannabe superyacht won't boost shipbuilding when real $500m+ superyachts are made elsewhere.

I can't imagine what state occasion would benefit from it. How would you get it up Horse Guards Parade?

Andy can then be known as SeaMiles Andy
Sweaty hands on the tiller
'Seaman' Andy
And as for pissing off the woke snowflakes  :yahoo:

Maybe the Govt will look to subsidise the yacht with corporate benefactors [as 'partners'] chipping in
As for benefactors there are various very long established businesses, with seafaring history, which helped forge Britain's place on the world map
Might be an idea to give them a wide berth

Going for nautical theme here :)

It might be called a Royal Yacht, what it really is, is an advert for UK PLC.

On top of that it will probably be built in Scotland, with probable caveats that an independent Scotland will lose the right to build it.

Don't forget the last Royal yacht was built at a cost of about £2.5million, yet deals and trade agreements worth over £3billion were signed on board over its lifetime.

Whilst there are some in the UK who do not like or see the need for a Royal Family, there are other wealthy nations who look upon the tradition and pageantry with jealousy, they are the ones the UK needs to target in a post Brexit world to strengthen our economy.

If the UK can generate 1200 times the cost of a new Royal Yacht in overseas sales and trade agreements then I am all for it.

Well said. Only the myopic would not countenance the build.
But then they might buy a lottery ticket and wish it could be me!

It appears that awarding the contract to a Scottish yard would  contravene World Trade Organisation rules. Only warships and auxiliaries are exempt from these rules which we now use instead of European rules.

So no doubt Korea or Japan would get the job, leaving Europe really left us masters of our destiny lol.

Another thing ‘they’ didn’t think of 🤔 🧐

Wait til the EU pull out of any capital and utility investment.
And when RATP pull the plug on London’s buses.
And  when EDF refuse to sponsor events.
GB plc sold all the good stuff and all that is left is C&A and Debenhams oops they’ve gone too.
Mike Ashley should be offered the contract so he can sub it out for an honest guv 15%

As JRC would say “you couldn’t make it up”

You get the yanks, when they realise that you are a Brit, asking if you've met the Royals
How dense can people possibly be ?

Foreigners think that supposedly having the vaguest of royal links gives them some credibility
Usually when they are desperate for it

Back here the anti-royals are usually anti-everything, other than for getting huge social security benefits for doing sweet FA

1200x might be a bit ambitious, 120x would appear ok to me

A 'Royal Yacht' would be a part of the Royal Navy so wouldn't fall under those WTO rules.  The last Royal Yacht was built in such a way that if needed could be refitted as a hospital ship with wards and operating theatres able to be quickly slotted in.

The trade deals bollox are hyped up 'top line' figures
& mean diddly
Other than for the door being opened
Better than being closed
Fuck knows how much UK Plc wastes on foreign aid
So a new yacht is a 'drop in the ocean' [so to write] in the grand scheme of things
British Royalty is regarded way more highly on a global basis than for other countries
Make the most of it

why not 1,200x? a practical target not ambitious

Some of them work for the cash. If cutting ribbons and asking if you've come far can be classified as work.
