Seems on/off but stuff like this in my news feed is causing me to rearrange punting priorities:

I was expecting some big-boobed girl from the East showing off her dribbling and ball-handling skills...

That one with the beard put me right off!

The Japanese population are against hosting the Olympics and their vaccination program is going at snail pace. They're not even allowing overseas flights at the moment.

Sadly that won't be happening.

Those thighs (the female hockey player) do look quite inviting though...

Yeah I am amazed at how poorly Japan's vaccination program is going, last I heard about 3 weeks ago they had only jabbed about 2% of the population, piss poor for the worlds 3rd largest economy

People are opposed to health workers being pulled from hospitals etc to look after the Olympics and you can't blame them either, The Olympics used to be the jewel in the crown that countries were overjoyed to host however these days I think the reality has hit home that it's just a waste of money for many countries, Brazilians weren't happy about Rio 2016 either

Yes they have been diabolically slow in Japan, in my view the games shouldn't be going ahead though I will watch if they do.

Have to admit I have no interest in watching the Olympics apart from the Rugby 7's if any of it is shown  :unknown:  Men or Women running around a track or throwing things has no appeal to me but each to their own.

Women's athletics, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, surfing etc. count me in.

I'm not really that interested however I do keep an eye on the medal table and like it if we pick up a medal, in terms of watching the events I don't go out of my way to watch unless it's a big event where we have someone whose in contention or a genuine medal prospect.

I did delay going to the pub for an hour back in London 2012 to watch Jessica Ennis finish the 800 metres and pick up Gold  :drinks:
Actually i'd still have delayed going to the pub to watch Jess even if she'd been last

It’s an absolute nightmare trying to get out there at the moment. I’m supposed to be there on the 20th July...

Yeah that's what it got called.
All joking aside though apart from wanting Jessica Ennis to win cause I fancy the arse off her I was so pleased she managed to not only win gold but at her home Olympics.
Coming into the games there was the whole weight of expectation on her to deliver and then she had the added weight of being the "Poster Girl"; talk about adding pressure on her shoulders and anything other than Gold would have been failure but she came through  :drinks:

The Heptathlon is the "True" Olympic event for women as it's competing over so many different disciplines in the same way the Decathlon is for men (Anyone remember how we all knew about the Decathlon when we had Daley Thompson winning but never seem to hear about it now  :unknown:)

I wasn't actually worried about her not winning Gold going into the last event which is 800m and I believe her least favoured as she already had it in the bag.
Being a points score for every event basically meant she knew how close behind her main competitors she could finish and still win, can't remember how much slower she could still be and win but when they said it was something like 20 or 30 seconds everyone knew she had it barring a pile up and falling over etc so I just kept thinking "keep out of trouble and make sure you finish"

I’m a bit old for competing unfortunately nowadays.
It’s all going to be locked down in our own bubble, so won’t be able to travel as freely as I’d like,  punting is off the cards too this visit.
Even though they are giving out 150000 condoms they are advising people to take them home and not use them.
Unlike when I was in Rio and London they had 450000 and ran out  :unknown:

I read during the 2002 World Cup they managed to persuade all the brothel owners to shut up shop as their 'patriotic duty' to keep their prozzies free of the AIDS carried by all the foreign fans.

I enjoyed 'ghost town London' in 2012, felt like I had the place to myself.

Yeah well I guess that unless you were going to an Olympic event or had to travel in London everyone else was scared off going anywhere near the place  :scare:

I remember a few conversations in the office about people needing to go and see customer XYZ etc then the question being asked where they were based and if the answer was London it was followed up with "Fuck that the Olympics are on it's going to be heaving even more than normal"

Talked to someone about 30 years ago who said the same in 66 for the WC final, she wasn't arsed about football and managed to drive from 1 side to the other in record time, said the street were deserted like people were expecting a Nuke to drop  :drinks:

As I recall, all non-foreign birds on AW had "HOLIDAY" or "Out of here!" written up in their blurb at the time.

Was very much business as usual in the TCMs and my employer at the time had heeded the WFH guidance put out by the government
