Assuming Boris does not change anything tonight  all non essential shops are reopening a week today.

But I notice that if I wish to book an overnight at a hotel after 12th there is still a warning regarding only essential travel/ work etc.

When are they going to be allowed to open regardless of the reason ?

Offline filthy.john

Travel and overnight stays come in some time in May I believe.

Offline Moby Dick

Step 3: No earlier than 17th May

But:
“As soon as possible and by no later than Step 3, we will also update the advice on social distancing between friends and family, including hugging. But until this point, people should continue to keep their distance from anyone not in their household or support bubble.”

There is no reason why he should change anything, the latest figures are better than anyone could have predicted.

What will be interesting is his plans for Covid passports, in general I support them but there will be lots of finer points to sort out, will it be based on an App in which case people will be forced to buy a smartphone even if they have never wanted one or needed one. ??

Just because there are 60,000 cretins in the UK (0.1% of the population) willing to buy a ticket to see the King of the Cretins, doesn't mean he has any credibility whatsoever.

Anyway, are you secretary of his fanclub or something?   :D

I am giving my local miss and I think it will be  a permanent one. I go quite regularly as its good for family meals etc so I thought I will arrange and take the family. Rang up to book a table and I thought it would be difficult, not kidding.

1. You have to download the app
2. Book table on the app pay £20 deposit
3. Booking are for a maximum of two hours
4. rule of 6
5. All orders to be done through the app no cash taken
6. No entry inside except for toilets
7. You have to sign in with the NHS APP
8. No smoking is allowed in the seating area
9. Masks to be used when entering, leaving or moving
10. Multiple groups of either sex not permitted

I will wait till next month as I am bound to trip up on one of those as the manager at the pub told me they can't guarantee a place even after booking and paying a deposit.

Those "rules" are not legislation, not all of them anyway.

I expect a lot of people will not be prepared to comply, I will stick to local restaurants who need my business.  :hi:

I like a beer with a meal or watching sport on TV at home sometimes, have no great impulse to rush back to the pub.

I agree. I love having a few beers with my friends but its just not the same alone at home. I'd rather have a cup of tea. However I will be in (or rather outside) a pub on 17th April.

I was going to go to the pub on Monday, but seeing the temperature is forecast to be 9 degrees max that day I'll wait until it's a bit warmer.

Likewise only visit the pub nowdays for a meal and drink otherwise prefer to drink at home eating snacks and watch sky sports or a good film on the tv.

Govt own advice for the 12th April:
Overnight stays away from home in England will be permitted and self-contained accommodation can also reopen, though must only be used by members of the same household or support bubble.

So can't see why you can't stay in a hotel as long as you're not with someone outside your household (not that they would know)

Hotels can re-open for leisure, provided that the accommodation is self-contained, i.e. no communal lifts, stairs or corridors to access the room.

Wales may have a slightly different definition of what constitutes self-contained, as I have noticed that some hotels in Wales are reopening on 12 April.  But then most of Wales is a punting desert.

More headaches for the hospitality industry, it appears that all members of a party must provide details when visiting a pub/restaurant, however it goes on to say that paper details can be accepted so nothing to stop you saying Mickey Mouse, Disneyland. ??

I presume that is because last time when only one person had to give their details, if that person refused to co-operate with track and trace then none of the party could be traced.

I really don't understand all the angst from the pubs etc.  If the extra requirements necessary to allow them to open early are too much for them, then they can simply stay closed until June when it should be safe to open as normal.

I'm worried about June 21st.  Already seen it described as a 'parole date' before a new Autumn surge rather than complete 'freedom' (such that it is).

It's very possible that a loosening up of foreign travel will eventually result in one of the iffy Indian or Brazilian variants being imported via a non-red list country, or by someone taking the proverbial or not quarantining properly.  That could cause real damage and undo a big chunk of our progress.
