This is on the increase and I like to think I am aware of most scams going around but I had a very clever one the other day

One of my accounts is with Nationwide and I get paperless statements.

Around the 3rd or the 4th of each month they email me to say my latest statement is ready also as a security feature they always print my postcode on the email.

I got my email from Nationwide a couple of days ago and I thought that's early but it had my postcode on it and everything looked genuine I was never going to open the email but I put my cursor over the address it had come from as that's normally a big giveaway.

Immediately my computer was attacked Bit Defender notified me of 73 separate attacks that they had blocked.

I finally sent it to the dedicated phishing address at Nationwide if it had come on the correct day I would have readily opened it but I assume it would have been blocked again

Why do you need to open it anyway, when I get them I can see in the title that my statement is available so I just delete them and log into my account in the normal way.    :unknown:

I use Outlook, almost all this stuff goes in "Junk" automatically.  About one item in 5 years has evaded them and gone into "Inbox".

You should report them to the National Cyber Security Centre too.

Go to the relevant bank Web page there will be an email address to forward the email too. You don't have to be a customer of the bank to find it.
And also forward it to [email protected]  Which is the National Cyber Security Centre address

After all said and done, the crooks are always 1 step ahead and we are always more than willing to jump onto the "Let's get digital and serve ourselves" bandwagon. Would a paper statement have been so malicious?

Ask your bank and other providers for paper billing, although you may have to pay for the privilege with some.

I get paper statements from TSB and Barclays, no extra charge.  :hi:

The banks aren't too bad regarding this. Barclays are free for me too.

"Other providers" might include ISP, mobile phone, gas, electric, etc
