With the end of lockdown looming ever closer and all being well a return to life as of 2019. I’m a quite a nostalgic person so what items would you like from the past to see returning? Anything from your wish list goes!
One thing amongst many for me...The return of independent video rental shops. You couldn’t beat going in with no idea what you wanted to watch and having to browse first. Always a pain to have to return it but the going was fun.

Offline george r

video recorders for me, it was great recording a film and watching it when it suited you , modern hard drive not the same

Gigs... I'm a big concert goer

Coffee shops... I'm addicted to my 6-7 strong French Roasts a day

Seeing all these lazy twats who are on furlough having to go back to work.

Looking further back.... being younger again

Yea, but how many times did you get home and watch a pile of crap because you couldn’t read any reviews like you can now.

There was always reviews in magazines and newspapers. I just loved browsing in them. Yes you could come away with some shit but that for me was part of the fun. Last video I ever rented was lethal weapon 4 in 1998. Enjoyed that.

What a pig ignorant thing to say, I know several people who have been furloughed and it hasn't been through choice and they would much prefer to be able to go to work.

They are neither lazy or twats.

It was a tongue in cheek comment... Obv in black and white it looks kind of stark.

But i have met quite a few SB's in the last year who work in cafe's/restaurants etc who have told me they are on furlough and hope to be for as long a possible as 'it's like a paid holiday'

Much better to have than digital copies. Nice to have a physical item. Especially if it’s a special edition.

I was slightly to young for a Raleigh chopper, my era I would of been well made up with a Raleigh aero burner.

Other than that, I'd like flat top hair cuts
Getting drunk on woodpecker cider on the park, and touching up the girls of my youth :hi:

In the 80s video shops I went to were also places to meet mates for a social outing and for me even more so with record shops into about the year 2000. This is the element Netflix, Amazon etc cant replicate. But that doesn't matter to lots of people of course, for example my son as he never experienced it.

It has. As much as i enjoy Netflix, going to a video shop on a Friday or Saturday made it more of an event to look forward to. Had a birthday? Go to the video shop! Streaming whilst convenient takes away that fun.

I have had lots of 80,s Bmw,  currently 2 325i  convertibles, the best one was a late 70,s 633 csi that I bought in mint original condition and my friend still has it.

Yesterday I came across locally tucked away in garages, an E30 3 series 2 door and an E34 525i both in totally original condition, both mot tested, but the couple are not inclined to part with them.

The best Bmw though is the E39 5 series, The best Merc the W124 e class. Good ones are now climbing quickly in value.

Your experience of video rental shops was obviously very different to mine.  I found them to be quite depressing places.  You'd go with a few films in mind, only to find them all out, with a waiting list as long as your arm, so you'd be reduced to browsing through a load of fairly ancient films most of which you'd already seen or had no interest in.  And if you did borrow one, when you got it back home you'd find the quality was lamentable, tracking issues where previous borrowers had repeatedly replayed the best bits, and so on.

I really cannot understand why anyone would prefer video recorders to modern HD recorders.  Aside from the quality of the recordings, HD recorders make it so easy to skip through ads, and to archive your recordings.  Mine will allow me to play back any film or programme that I have archived to my PC - who needs shed loads of VHS boxes cluttering up the place.
I likewise converted all my records and audio tapes to mp3 very quickly.  Much easier to play, and you can edit out the filler tracks on an lp, make up your own playlist, and so on.  My PC is connected to my stereo to play them back.  As far as I am concerned, no question that modern technology wins hands down.

To be honest, I have struggled to think of anything that I would bring back.  There are a few of my favourite chocolates, such as the cherry bounty or Fry's 5 flavour, that I wouldn't mind back, and Heart ices. However, I recently found some Tutti Frutti ice cream in Tesco, that used to be a favourite of mine, now a disappointment (that might just be me remembering it better than it was, or crap Tesco quality).

The biggest thing I miss is the slower pace of life.  We used to have time to have a laugh at work, now it is neverending pressure to meet deadlines.  And there seems to be this constant pressure nowadays to make the most of your time, whereas when I was young we seemed to have more time than we knew what to do with.

Being able to park up and nip in somewhere for a few minutes without a camera catching you for a £120 ticket.

Friday nights in the local with my girlfriend with a kebab on the way home and STILL having the energy for a bunk up!!

Jumping on and off the old Routemaster buses.

Falling in love (long time since that happened).

Hearing a properly funny gag for the first time and laughing uncontrollably... time and circumstance have taken that away :(

Having so little stuff you could move it all in 1 carload, but it didn't matter because you had all the time in the world to make money and settle down...

Knowing for certain that the good times would always roll and you would never die...

Okay, thought of a couple more.  Proper violent cartoons.  Like Tom & Gerry used to be.  Used to really enjoy Road Runner and Dick Dasterdly.  Okay, it probably brought up a generation who go around dropping enormous boulders on one another, but they were fun, unlike they dreary bland offerings on TV these days.

And London Cheesecake.  Nothing like an ordinary cheesecake.  Fluffy pastry, jam, with sweet stringy white "worms" on top.  London branches of Gregg's still sold them {albeit with not enough jam) until a year or two ago.

For me it was always the E30. They were like driving a cart, could throw them round and have the arse hanging out so easily.

I never had that problem. I loved movies and the shop I went to was always well stocked with a wide variety so I’d always find something.
