Author Topic: Whatever happened to casual escorts?  (Read 1376 times)

I don't punt so much these days but still have the occasional dabble (pre Covid) and I follow this site regularly. One thing I've gradually become aware of (and it seems others have noticed too) is how few quality girls are left on Teesside; it seems from an ongoing thread on here for example that many of the greats are ex escorts and not current ones.

So this has got me thinking. I remember a time (80's and 90's) when every pub had a girl who would 'look after you for a few quid' and every taxi driver knew somewhere you could go if you failed to pull on a weekend; the Sport especially just before Christmas would see a sudden increase in the number of local escorts, obviously the 'casual' ones looking to earn some money for the festive period. Anecdotally when Boro had a red light area it got to a point where there literally was a girl on every street corner and it seemed there were plenty of magazines and papers with a 'massage' section.

Nowadays there is no RLD (not a bad thing in my opinion), the only internet site where escorts advertise frequently is over run with Romanians (probably multiple ads for the same girls) and druggies, and many guys seem more into massage with HE anyway (which again seems dominated by Chinese / Thai ladies.

So my question is whatever happened to casual escorts, ie the ladies who weren't druggies, who weren't controlled by a pimp and who used the trade as a way to make easy money? Has the internet killed all that - in other words are sites such as Onlyfans and AdmireMe now where pretty young things go to earn a few quid - or are people generally better off than we were in say the late 80's and therefore there is no need to have a side hustle? (I hope that's true but don't really believe it is). Has an increase in people trafficking by organised gangs forced out the 'occasional' escort or are there more opportunities now for young women that don't involve selling their bodies?

Or am I just looking back through rose coloured glasses and as a now very occasional punter I'm just not as aware of the scene as I used to be, and as someone who pre Covid didn't go out on the pull doesn't know the etiquette anymore and anyway I'm far too old and ugly to be out trying to pull anyway!

Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

Nothing has changed apart from the method of advertising. No need for adverts on the back of free papers, there's AdultWork. then there's the agencies who have well over a 100 on their books.

I don't know what point you are trying to make.   :unknown:

My point is where have all the indies gone? You're right, there are a lot more agencies around than say 30 years ago but have all / most of the independent girls really moved across to agencies? Of the girls on Adultwork many of them are Roms and as I said many of the adverts on there may well be for the same few girls.

So I'm curious, is it just the method of advertising that's changed or has the mix of escorts changed, ie fewer Indies and more agency / Roms? I believe the mix has changed and I'm simply curious why. Wondering about things is how I pass my time when I can't punt

To make a fair comparison you need to know how many independent escorts there were 30 years ago compared to now. I don't recall very many 30 yeas ago.

There's loads of options for them to advertise now, AW, VS, Gumtree, EH, AS are some.

I think the answer is in the efficiency of today's advertising options versus those 30 years ago. The old ways were very inefficent so resulted in part time escorts as they couldn't get enough business for it to be full time. I can remember the days of postcards in newsagents windows being a popular advertising outlet as the local newspapers weren't represented in all regions nor did they all carry escort adverts. With the internet that all changed. That type of advertising didn't have the reach of today's internet sites

I think the op maybe has mixed up his terminology as there are certainly more indie escorts around today but as a percentage not as many part time escorts doing it for "pin money"

It does feel like there are fewer British girls whether independent or with agencies.

Teesside had some crackers during the late 90s and 00s but few of any quality now apart from the fantasists asking for £180 per hour.

The agencies are a bit thin on Teesside girls and most of the online ads on VS and Adultwork are foreign.

Couldn't tell you why but I do know of Teesside girls making crazy money on onlyfans.

You're really not missing much.

AS is where they recycle old aw profiles and VS is where all the ROMs live.

I agree with bikerman. Being a fellow Teessider , if I didn’t get fixed up in the madhouse I would head to the Bongo. Had many a fun all it get with some girls in their for £30-£50 plus a couple of drinks. What when you got back to theirs , another one in the morning then head home. You could also head to the captain cook if you didn’t want a night club. Often wondered where those girls went
