I am an infrequent punter. I don’t have a punting phone.

The concept of a punting phone intrigues me in that, personally, if my missus found another phone I would be equally in as much shit as to her seeing a text from an escort on my personal phone.

Trying to explain away a second phone would be hell.

So do people have punting phones more so to protect them from unsolicited attention than their partners finding out? Or both ?

I presume most other people who have partners would be in the shite if their partners found a second phone?

I thought everyone has a spare phone in the glove box on a different network to phone the RAC if the main network is down or main phoned has been lost.

Just like you would wear a condom during sex with an escort, a punting phone is a different sort of protection. Being caught with a second phone is easier but still difficult to explain compared to if your other half sees a text on your one solitary phone from "Candy Cumguzzler" listing her new rates and saying Anal is £40 extra.

The other main reason of a punting phone which is often forgotten are from reports on here of blackmail and other vindictive methods by escorts or their associates, thankfully its a miniscule amount but large enough to be cautious, to extort money or reveal the identity of punters. Without a punting phone, you would be making it way easier for those kinds of things to happen.

A second sim is my preferred method. Asda sim card is what I use as you can top up with as little as £1 via top up card.

I've always had a punting phone, kept well hidden in the car, until it's required for use.

It gets taken out and into the garage for charging now and again, and then straight back into the car, and if you look closely you'll be able to find at least 12 "Hidie Holes" in the car for your "Punting Phone" out of sight of the Other Half.  ;)

As a non driver I don't have the option of car hidey holes but lets face it, a cheap disposable mobile is a really small object. My punting phone is a little flip up £10 bit of crap but it's very easy to conceal and does the job it's needed for.

Apologies, I didn't give it a thought about "Non-Drivers" and I should have as the brother in law is one, and he's always scrounging lifts and telling people how to friggin drive............  :dash:

Ask yourself how are you most likely to be caught

A) you leave your phone unattended and the nosey fucker goes through it and catches you...

B) you buy a cheap phone and leave it turned off and hidden until needed...

Theres always a third option, keep her busy with plenty of washing up, hoovering, housework etc so she's to busy to go snooping....  :drinks:

A second phone - switched off and hidden - stops any hassle from those late night unwanted texts that were discussed on a recent review.

Remember to have a cover story for why you have it, and delete all texts and calls anyway.  Assume it will be found.

It’s makes sense to have a punting phone, the SP your contacting more than likely has one too, so there not mixing business with pleasure l.

Not for me though tried it, was never off the infernal thing so folk at work see me playing with 2 phones lol ,
I just use the privacy options on my phone, if it’s a one off they get blocked and deleted . If it’s a regular then they’ll go inside one of my mates contact details, again making use of the privacy options (mute) and all notifications turned off.

Or there’s Adultwork messenger

Op why do you need a physical phone? You can get a second virtual number with so many apps now days, txt me, flipper etc. Install the app and delete when done, your subscription will still be active for when you install it again when you need it. I don’t load it from Apple store moments before making contact. Then delete it when done. No evidence at all to be found

I've always had a few phones as I like gadgets. Always had a spare in the car seriously as the one time you break down in the middle of nowhere in the pissing rain that's when your network goes down.

I use dual SIM these days so only one handset.

Happily unmarried and intend to stay that way.  :)

Offline Mansell

Your better off having to come up with some excuse to the OH why you've got another phone than risk your real number with a WG in any way. I got a draw of electronic tech stuff and s few old ones in there, just be careful.

I have a few laying around, but in my case would cause a lot of questions. There is a app you can get which gives you a uk mobile number but I think its for calls only which is useless as most communication is txt related. If there is a app out there that simulates a mobile number for txts thats a good way forward

What about an excuse for having a dual SIM phone? Personal and business?

The second SIM can also be turned off if required so nothing gets through.

100% get a punting phone, I am not even with anyone at the moment but it's the safety of knowing that in the absolute worst case scenario a PoS phone is all I need to dispose of or write due to theft.

Leave it at work, attach to the bottom of a drawer, place up high on the kitchen cabinets but importantly keep itnon silent and off.

I would not recommend a dual SIM phone for this though, far too easy to accidently make calls and texts with the wrong number.

Offline Chrisover

Hushed is a great app to use. It is available on both IOS and Android operating systems.

Offline SBM

Another vote for a virtual sim.  Easy to use.  Fairly cheap.  And as mentioned before, you can just uninstall it when not in use or alternatively most seem to have a "status" option that can be set to offline, which means that calls and messages aren't received until the status is changed to online.

Offline Red viper

When you upgrade your phone, just keep the old one and say it is a spare for if the new one breaks. Buy a pay as you go sim and put some money on it. Pop it in and switch the phone off. Delete all messages and texts each time used.

Simple and saves the hassle and worry of any unsolicited calls !

Offline Ride4fun7

I use my work phone for a punter phone as when I get home its turned off and put into the draw as I don't what work calls. So no questions asked about two phones and no danger of the wife looking at work phone

Offline polkiuj

Doesn't everyone have a few old phones from previous contracts/upgrades hanging around the place?
Stick a sim card in one, password protect it, turn it off.
If she finds it, it's just an old phone 'you cant remember the code for'.
I go the extra step of not storing numbers, deleting call history and text messages after every meet just in case.
The only thing out of the ordinary is that it has a pay as you go sim in it ... i would just claim it's old and i forgot about it. I dont even need to go to that much effort to hide it... it's in a drawer with other old phones...

Offline winkywanky

...you might have trouble explaining why it's charged up?

Offline winkywanky

The other good thing about a punting phone is that you can turn off your real life phone while you're in punting mode, so Location etc can't catch you out later.

Your real life phone is totally clean of any connection with your punting.

But of course it does mean that you have explaining to do if your punting phone ever gets found. It needs to be really well hidden.

Hushed gets a vote for me
Can top it up many ways
You can lock the app or just uninstall it from your phone
When you re install the msg will come back through

Also should u need to change your number you can also do that with a few clicks

Another vote for the old contract phone switched off dumped in the boot of the car seemingly yesterday’s news.  Pay and go sim stashed nearby either keep one for a while or if infrequent punter just buy one from a shop for a pound each time, give the phone the odd charge and ready to roll as and when required.

Offline hairymonster

Absolutely a punting phone.

My OH is always pinching my phone because hers is flat. She will happily read mails and messages, could be sure she wouldnt stumble on anything she shouldnt.

+1 and just get a cheap SIM from somewhere like External Link/Members Only that last you 4 month for a tener

Yep. Hushed. You can rename it to something that puts alongside the bloatware you never use, but the real name appears if you look for it under Apps. Configure it to not notify of incoming calls or texts. PIN coded also
