Hi chaps,

Just wondering if anybody has any first hand experience with either and how they found the whole thing (cost, fitting, maintenance, reactions etc.)

I'm considering a hair system post lockdown when things go back to normal and heard both good and bad stories.
I love the honesty of our members on here so hoping for some good stories and insights!

Thanks in advance, I've used the search facility on here and only things that came up were shaving arses and searching by hair on AW  :D Apologies if this subject has already been discussed!

Can I give an opinion from a woman’s POV (not in a SP capacity) ? is completely shaving it off an option? bald men are very sexy in my opinion especially with a nice neat beard. I understand if you are particularly young you may not consider that as an option x

I'm going bald gracefully (albeit reluctantly) so perhaps I'm not the best one to comment.

But it seems to me whatever route you go down, even if you have a really good job done, further down the line is further hair loss. If you don't have the money for maintenance so to speak, you'll stand out more than if you'd just gone with mother nature's plan for the male scalp.

Weaves need constant maintenance in any case, even if they are cheaper than a transplant.

The other thing I would say is that those close to you will always know you had it done in the first place, and those who are yet to meet you (including prospective female companions) will find out fairly soon whether you like it or not.

I suppose none of this should matter, women do all manner of shit to their bodies and faces in pursuit of what they see as the ideal. But somehow, it's still a taboo for men to consider doing the same.

Precisely.

I use a Mach3 for bonce, bum and balls, and an old battery powered Philips LadyShave with the guard removed to keep my goatee short and neat.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies so far. I've been bald for a number of years so that isnt the issue, its more just a personal preference of mine as I look much better with hair.

In regards to other people knowing or being able to tell - again not really something that bothers me at all.
I think I'm looking more for peoples first hand experiences and the practicalities with either having a hair system or as a friend/ family member.

Thanks for the replies all the same!

If you're properly bald then a hair transplant is a no go.

I'm a baldie, and started  losing my hair late teens early twenties. I don't think you'll get any replies, most guys don't like it, but accept there's very little you can do unless you're loaded. Even then there's constant maintenance.
Spend your money on something else  :hi:

A lot of famous people, used to, or wear wigs / toupees, to improve their looks.

E.G. Sean Connery, Daniel Craig, Bruce Forsythe, Charlie Sheen, Ben Affleck.

With a man, the front hairline is awkward to blend in.

Can be risky on a windy day.

If your a barrister by any chance, it's normal to wear a wig.

I tend to find only older women say that. I've never heard a 25-year-old say they find bald men sexy.  :hi:

I agree. If it matters a lot to someone, then they can invest money to do something about it but it tends to happen a lot of us. I'm happy to grow old gracefully. :hi:

John Travolta, Steve Harvey were ones before they embraced their baldness.

Transplants are quite popular with football players and actors see James Nesbitt, Antonio Conte, David Silva even Beckham had one done recently. OP might be best going down this route, they're quite affordable in Turkey just need to do plenty of research beforehand.

As a baldie myself, simply get over it, the hair has gone and it ain't coming back. Slapheads rule!   :drinks:

OP, I've had a hair transplant done. There are many comprehensive forums on hair restoration - I don't think links to other sites are allowed, so I won't post any, but a quick google search will bring them up. The best way to approach your situation is to start reading up on the procedure and the reviews (there's literally 1000's) and see how other people's Before and After photos look. Some of them are amazing transformations, some are fakes, and many are very motivating. Find reviews of people who have had a similar hair loss pattern to yours and see how the transplant has changed their look.

I was procrastinating for years to get a transplant done, and it was the fear of the pain that stopped me. In reality, it is not painful at all. I actually fell asleep during the procedure, and apparently that's quite common. The best doctors seem to be in Belgium (and that's where I went). They are not cheap however. Turkey is a cheaper option, but you have to be careful there - there are literally hundreds of back-alley 'doctors' who do this (it's an un-regulated industry). If going to Turkey, then pick one of the top name doctors (Cinik, Ergodan etc), but be aware that the doctor will have literally 5-10 other patients in the same day and will let his technicians do the actual work whilst he comes in and out of each room inspecting things. Turkey is about a third of the price as the Belgian doctors. The other option is India. I don't recommend British doctors - and certainly anyone with a Harley St address should be avoided.

You can figure out roughly where you are on the Norwood scale by looking at online guides. This will give you an indication of how many grafts you will need, and hence the cost. If you are a Norwood 4 or greater, then you probably need 2 transplants (like me). Then email a handful of doctors - most have online forms with photo attachment option and they will access you with an initial description of what is required and how much it will cost. Take it from there.

I'm glad I had mine done.

Good luck.

PS - with scientific advances, nowadays, going bald is no longer compulsory.

Thanks for this fella, really helpful advice. This was exactly what I was looking for - actual advice from someone who has been through it not useless comments about getting over it or embracing baldness.

Geninuely though thanks again to everyone who has posted, perhaps I should have been clearer myself in my original post that I'm not questioning whether I should get anything done or not as thats isnt the case.

This is a punting forum after all, best bet would have been to ask for advice in the hairloss and transplant forums which has tons of discussion on this. You'd get all the information and advice needed.

I find the many videos on YouTube that feature hairsystems utterly fascinating. They are quite informative too. There's a version that involves getting your shiney bald bonce tattooed with loads of little dots so it looks like a 5 o'clock shadow ie the illusion that you do have a full head of hair but opt to shave it off. It's called micropigmentation.

Offline JontyR

Not sure where you are on your journey but have you considered the preventative medicines available from online pharmacists?

Appreciate this is an old thread but couldn't find any more recent.

I'm considering getting a hair transplant, my hair line isn't going to change now and I'm interested to see what results I can get.
I have some funds but aware that UK treatments can be quite high for the amount I think I need. Not sure if there are any UK companies that offer better VFM or is Turkey the only other option?
Not sure how to find a reputable provider either here or abroad.

Any advice appreciated  :drinks:

Grow bald gracefully or wear one of these. If not go for the Bobby Charlton "comb over"  :D
Sorry but wigs look ridiculous and hair transplants are a waste of money. If your going thin on top just shave it short  :unknown:

Thanks  but to date I have done(no syrups though and I'm not Scottish),I've looked after my body so look a few years younger but I'm no looker so would like to see if I can make an improvement overall.
I buzzed my bonce for years but as I have some money spare I thought I'd explore what I'd look like with a better coverage as I don't have a great skull profile side on.
I would like some feedback on best VFM and service ....that's all really

Joking apart if having more hair gives you confidence and you have the cash then go for it.

I'll visit a UK clinic in person and get them to assess your situation and see how many grafts you need and ask them for cost, process etc then cross check it with a well researched clinic in Turkey. As the consultation with a Turkish clinic is all done virtually so you they may not be the best to get a clear assessment on your situation.

Never let cost be a factor in your decision, its not something you want to go cheap on.

Just watch as many YouTube vids on Turkey hair transplants as you can, so much help and advice out there. I was tempted myself, but think they would need to harvest too much hair, but many of them you can send a WhatsApp pic and get advice from that.

I looked into hair systems, amazing and instant results, but watched a vid where a guy says it’s about £120 per month if you add it all up, as they only last a few months and need specialist hair cuts inbetween.

Also looked into SMP, I think it’s expensive for what it is, but I’ve got light hair and don’t want to have to shave my head every few days.

Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us posted

If you're already bald you could look at TRT instead. No concern on losing your hair and will make you attractive in other ways.

Could be a go out there, get your hair transplant done and punt for a few weeks while it heals up. Might as well make the most of your time over there!
