Author Topic: UKE not accepting new members?  (Read 45572 times)

Offline jimbobted

I was a member of UKE, resigned up when it was wiped clean. Organised a decent punt through a classified there. Haven't logged in for ages, thought I'd have a look.
My login doesn't work. There's a message suggesting it's been deleted because of a period of non-use. And another message saying it's "a private forum and not accepting new memberships".
WTF?
With no RB feature active on AW at the moment I was hoping to trawl UKE for some action.

Anyone know what's going on or how to get membership there?

Offline Boundless

I hadn't realised it had been wiped clean.
I was one of the first members to sign up to the original one and spent many happy hours on there for a couple of years. I lapsed into non usage for a while as I had a close call so had to make some changes and much deleting of stuff etc. I'm the same as you in that I couldn't log back in after a while although I seem to recall a message saying that my @gmx email account wasn't allowed, it had to be gmail, hotmail etc.
Am I correct in thinking that it was taken over by new management?

Offline jimbobted

I think it was taken over by new management, and then back to the old management. Beyond that I'm not really sure.
I also have a gmx email account. Perhaps that's why I was booted, but that's moot as there's no way to sign up anyway.
I mean what's the point of a forum if people can't join?

Offline The Owl

The old admin gives me the impression that he's just running down UKE until it's up for renewal, then he'll let it go. It comes across as he doesn't have the time or desire to run it anymore so has made it a closed forum for existing members and is slowly getting rid of non-contributors. After the take over descended in to a malicious farce by someone who had done just enough to get the keys it looks like the forum will never be handed over to anyone else now. The lack of new members has had a negative impact on it but UKE was always pretty clique anyway and had problems with a few serial banned returners. It's a shame to see it now, but I suspect unless Admin has a complete change of heart the forum is living on borrowed time and a handful of regulars.

Good summary, we will have to wait and see.

Completely agree. There are only a few members who contribute now and that number is dwindling. There’s hardly been anything of note posted for the past few months, just the same old posters posting the same stuff.

OP you’re really not missing much, hardly any escorts on there.

I used to post on the gaming thread, but logged out a few months ago and haven’t been back.

The old admin worked really hard getting it up and going, and then (I guess) reluctantly got lumbered with it again.

I got the impression it was being run down. It had become pretty pointless anyway. The same handful of posters spinning wheels in the mud over and over.

Agree with the Tess MgGill photos. She looks smoking hot.

It was interesting for all of about five minutes when it started a few years ago, getting escorts' take on punters and their industry, and interacting with them.

However, the novelty soon wore off as a clique of a relatively small number of WGs and male members posted incessantly and at length. Threads were so long and so full of shit that it was hard to glean any decent information.
There were several active whiteknights with more money than sense (even if they were actually punters) blowing smoke up the WGs' arses and saying £160ph was good value, then the WGs getting full of themselves, talking crap and pushing their prices up.

There was a certain amount of enjoyment, though, in throwing a few grenades in and taking on the whiteknights and arrogant prossies, even if I found myself in a minority of one. Then I got bored - and clearly so did lots of other punters and WGs because the number of members and posts fell off. I checked in a couple of years ago and there was no decent info on there.

So anyone who has not been on there for about 3 years hasn't missed anything.

I wonder if there's a gap in the market in that case. Adult work is a bit crap with no RB facility at the moment. Vivastreet just seems to be full of pimped skanks, bait and switch artists or blatant scammers. Where else is there now to hook up with independent escorts?

Offline RandomGuy99

I used to be on UKE primarily for the media - that's why I joined.  I also found the regional ads useful for finding SPs that I'd not have met otherwise.

I think it serves a useful function for indie SPs who might have no other way of talking about issues associated with their sex industry job especially at a difficult time for individuals and the country.  It also gives you an insight into issues both punters and SPs have and the rationale behind some of the rules SPs have.

There were always a lot of new people joining, causing trouble and then being booted.  That probably took a lot of admin time to manage and nobody needs that kind of stress. The site was also growing as more posts were made and that must have consumed more storage and slowed the site down and made it harder to maintain especially if there were more members constantly being added.

It is a bit of a clique, but then most established forums appear that way if you're a new member.  It does put new members at a disadvantage because they're not aware of the alliances different members have formed.  It also took a while to understand the rules of the forum e.g. questions that can or cannot be asked, topics that can or cannot be discussed, but you learn through experience and sometimes that can be stressful and not good for your mental health.

Given that the country seems to be heading back into a period of lockdown and uncertainty for SPs and punters about their income, I think it makes sense that it's closed to new members.   That way there's no new potential troublemakers joining the site and admin can focus on running a smaller leaner and cheaper to host site with fewer members at a time when there's going to be significantly fewer SPs working and punters punting.  That should result in less drama for all involved and perhaps a more supportive community to help people through the next year or so.  Nobody needs troublemakers at the best of times never mind in the midst of a global pandemic.

11 Other punting forums
Discussion about other punting forums is not prohibited but many are often very hostile. Other forums are also anti-punter; therefore it is not in the interests of punters to give them publicity. Posting links to other sites is prohibited as is slagging off. Use your noodle. We are allowing links in Punting Abroad section.

I thought it was an offshoot of this one with the same management. I do not flout the rules on purpose. I am just a klutz.

But then this whole conversation breaks your rule 11?

Similarly, I hadn't bothered with it for a very long time, the odd look at the pics was all I bothered with. I know all chat forums, and any grouping whether online or not will attract cliques but wow, that place was next level cliquiness!!

Just out of interest, is there any particular reason why we can write "UKE" on here, whereas info were to write the name of other punting forums then [banned auto censored] (or something similar) appears? I presume it's just down to the historical links between the two sites but I'd assumed that, after the split/old admin leaving, there would be more separation?

Just being nosey really  :)

I still find UKE interesting.  It's been through some rocky times and people have always come and gone - although now they can only go.  That's the same on here too.  The fact that escort bookings have been severely curtailed this year hasn't helped the flow of new topics.  It was pretty quiet on here at times too.

I think UKE Admin is keeping the forum going almost as a favour to those of us who do still post.

It's a shame those of you on this thread who have issues with UKE didn't join in more and make it the kind of forum you wanted to be part of.

Like others have mentioned on here it is very cliquey, so even if you did join in and god forbid you had a different view/opinion the more prolific members would abuse you.

You can both write and discuss UKE on here, you just can't post links to it or slag it off. It has nothing to do with previous links between the two, links to any other punting forum are not allowed to be posted.

You don't even have to disagree with something in order to attract flak from the the resident (usually male) trolls. I popped the odd post in just to keep my account refreshed and some fuckwads piled on because of my choice of words. I went back to look more at them and their posting history , and I reckon that they haven't punted in months so probably bitterness spilling over. I don't bother to take the bate. They get bored and move to pick on the next victim. It's a boring site.

The point for me is UKE admins idea when he started UKE was to get the touting WGs, pimps and white knight fanboys off here and onto their which worked with loads though not all of them. IF UKE was to close and I know nothing about that I imagine some of those lot will come back on here giving admins and mods potentially more work to do.

I used to visit there a couple of years ago (before the reboot/rebuild) and post on the various threads on the odd occasion, however, even though I was never picked on, I couldn’t stand the cliquiness and bullying so stopped reading and posting.  When a newcomer pitched in, or someone who wasn’t part of the inner-circle clique had a differing view on something, then it was akin to a starving pack of wolves shredding some innocent prey when the prolific posters pounced on him/her.

I rejoined when old Admin refreshed it and kept/keep my account going by intermittently replying or “liking” on one or two of the threads which thankfully don’t seem to attract the majority of fawning mainstay posters on there.

Yes and there was a gap in the punting market which that model could fill and undoubtedly it did at first. However general 'off topic' discussion sections on specialist forums are notoriously troublesome (as we know here also)

When those topics then dominate the board to the detriment of the specialist subject, then you have sown the seeds for problems. When in addition the topics become more and more trivial to the point of "what did you have to drink today" etc then you invite huge numbers of pretty meaningless posts, which to begin with seem fun, but then become tedious and lead to a further decline in the forum. The forum also mutates into more of a trivial social media platform with 'Friends' etc. This leads to an escalation of cliques, which in turn causes conflict between rival cliques but more especially conflict with newcomers.

I joined it back it 2019 not long after I returned to punting and began posting on UKP. I found that if you posted on UKE, but then left it a day or so to check back in, there were often pages of posts to wade through in order to consider replying and that the topic had meandered in many different directions. I hadn't posted much anyway, so I pretty much gave up.

I logged in again in August this year and was surprised my account was still active? .... although my posts had largely gone, as it seems topics had been deleted. It appeared little had changed but I saw a topic I felt I could give an opinion on and so decided to post. The keyboard warrior cliques descended. Pick on the (perceived) 'newcomer'. Accusations of returning banned troublemaker etc.
They were largely a pretty poor calibre of warrior and I've been around that block many times and so dealt with them accordingly, and they withdrew to pick on someone else. Others would have reacted badly to the provocation and likely banned... which was what the cliques/warriors wanted. Not a welcoming forum.

I was surprised Oldadmin took it over again but he did. Perhaps its implosion was too soon after he passed it on?

Now from personal experience I can tell you he is one canny operator. At around that time, he started a poll asking "should the forum be closed to new members"? He even voted 'yes' himself  :D (as I say very canny) The masses also voted almost exclusively 'yes' wanting their own select club and clearly not thinking through the consequences, especially the SPs. Without new members a forum will eventually become very stale and instead of picking on the newbies, of which there aren't any, the cliques have to increasingly turn their attention more and more upon themselves.

Its always a shame to see forums decline, but sadly I have witnessed a fair number over the years. As others have posted in this thread, I too suspect the owner is 'managing' this decline?

I’m pretty sure the vote was about whether you had to be a member to see posts and NOT to close the forum to new members. As much as there are a lot of idiots on there, that’s like the turkeys voting for Christmas.

However, you are right about oldadmin managing the decline. It will soon be gone. And I think he took it back as he realised he’d fucked up by handing the site over to a sex pest.

Offline RandomGuy99

Posting ads on there for SPs to see was a waste of time as I suspect that most SP members didn't actually read the forum.

SP posted ads about tours and availability were useful to spot new SPs to see.

I think most punters just want to see the media and the ads from SPs. They're not really interested in chatting with the SPs and that is probably a good thing.

Given the COVID situation, it being closed to new members is probably no loss to SPs or punters.

I don't think I'd rejoin if it reopens to members.  I can do without the drama in my life.

Very hostile /cliquey site in my opinion, full of bullies. I got the impression that the majority of the male members were "keyboard warriors" who never punted. Nobody on there has a sense of humour, and all are detached from the real world.

Typical responses

1) “this will end well”
2) this is a crap request what age, size, hair length, colour of underwear, political beliefs (this was always one that looked stupid the op said what he wanted quite clearly)
