This can be both a discussion of who do you think will be in the future the best James Bond if they get the role, or who was the best James Bond.

I think, as mentioned in another topic, both Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby were the best James Bonds. They were in the best films (only From Russia With Love is up there with those three films those two were in, in my own opinion) and they just had the no-nonsense hard as nails approach to the character and none of the flamboyance or campiness that other actors did.

The somersault kick George Lazenby's (stunt double) did at the start of OHMSS in the Sea goes down in infamy as the best fight move in any James Bond film for example as he really just went up there like Bruce Lee would have done.

So anyway, what does anyone else think? And should there be a Black or Female James Bond?

No female or black james bond. He was not described that way in Flemmings books. I like Daniel Craig as Bond I think he has done a good job. By all means have a women or black actor play a simular part but not as James Bond.

Offline winkywanky

A female Bond would be frankly ridiculous, the role is clearly for a man.

But does that apply to a prospective Black Bond? Anyone know if it has to be a White Bond?

...which does beg the question, why did he drink something as poofy as a Vodka Martini, he should surely have been drinking some obscure single malt, perhaps produced by an ancestral distillery?

Yes he would, as all Scots wear kilts, hunt haggis when it’s season and live of deep fried Mars bars while riding Nessie down Loch Ness

From what I recall, in the books he mainly drunk Scotch Whisky. As any sensible Brit would do

I was watching Live and Let Die last week and was surprised two times he ordered a Bourbon whisky on the rocks, no martini's in that. I am in two minds to go through the Roger Moore series to see if this is in any other films of his too.

You mean Fleming, as Establishment as you could possibly get, was actually a trailblazer for ethnic destigmatisation? I'm stunned

So definitely some inclusivity there, as well as recognition of his roots. Like it.

It was this debate elsewhere which led to the thread.

There's been a number of good black supporting actors and Bond girls.

Ridiculously whisky was replaced by a bottle of Heineken in the last one due to sponsorship.

There have been so many digressions from the original literary Bond by now that the race of the actor playing him isn't that important.

As I said, Licence to Punt would certainly be a memorable film title.

From Romania With Love and The SP Who Loved Me also.

Not the best Bond but I do enjoy the Moore films, they are cheesy in the comedic sense and slightly camp.

In 1983 when Octopussy and Never Say Never Again were both being released Siskel and Ebert did a Bondathon special where they each said their best bond film, best bond villain, best bond girl and etc.

And both of them both picked Never Say Never Again as the best Bond movie of all of the Bond movies and also both picked the villain from Never Say Never Again as the best overall Bond Villian of any of the bond movies.

They both loved Never Say Never Again and this was Sean Connery's return after 12 years.

Here is the episode over two parts if you want to watch it

It was so cringeworthy watching Roger Moore run - so camp and unathletic and quite frankly embarrassing. For me he ruined the macho image and therefore ruined the Bond films forever.

But back to the subject in hand. The Connery and Moore films were "of their time" but Bond then degenerated into not much more than an Ealing/Carry On type franchise. In my opinion that didn't improve until Casino Royal with Craig and the scope of the plots reduced from white cat stroking megalomaniacs to slightly more nitty gritty matters.

Anyway, its Daniel Craig for me, followed by Sean Connery then Roger Moore.

And then Lazenby knocked it out of the park. And made what many believe is the best and most complete Bond movie.

And those who do not like him, look at how tired and disinterested Connery was in Diamonds are Forever, imagine if it was Lazenby given the arse kickings he gave in the previous movie hell-bent of getting revenge for Tracy. It could have been epic.

In Diamonds they had to drop the whole Tracy death storyline so Bond and Blofeld were just camp foppish adversaries.

No. But you're right about the fees which are egregious. Earlier this year I hosted a meal for four at the yacht club and had a bill of best part of $600. I struggle to hide £250 from my spouse for a 2 hour punt. Its a hard life.

That's the extent of my interest in James Bond, I've only ever seen two, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger, just not my thing. That's why it's so annoying to have to wade through a load of guff to find posts that are not only of interest to me but also have an effect on me on this site. I'm interested in people's viewpoints, if they want it unrestricted then why, I would like to know, it all adds to the bigger picture.

I'm quite happy not to look at this thread again and let fans discuss to their hearts content. (Subject to mod issues of course).    :hi:
