Author Topic: The New Warning Message on Adult Work  (Read 15318 times)

Online Vice Admiral

While apparently admirable in its general drift, Adult Work's new warning on every escort's page (see below) seems not to have been fully thought through.  To put it mildly.

AW says: "We have removed the facility to arrange a meeting with any advertiser."

However, at the moment anyway, mobile numbers still appear on numerous escorts' profiles – and they of course are far the easiest (and probably the commonest) way of "arranging a meeting with an advertiser".

In addition e-mailing is still allowed.  And "Available Today" green lights are still showing.  This, according to AW, is so that punters can "ascertain [escorts'] current ability to communicate with you".  Humbug!

Meanwhile, the AW Booking System has indeed been de-activated.  But since only a minority of punters use it anyway – and other methods of communication are still available – that seems little more than a gesture.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As the UK is under lockdown conditions with social distancing a mandatory requirement of all citizens, meeting other people other than those with whom you live is not allowed, by law.

This profile remains visible as offering Escort Services to give you the insight that under normal conditions this member engages in physical meetings.  At this time you may use this insight to discuss any mutual interests via DirectCam, Phone Chat or the Site's built-in email system.  The member's Available Today status can be used to ascertain their current ability to communicate with you.

By act of Parliament, in the UK, it is illegal to meet anyone with whom you do not share a household, so we have removed the facility to arrange a meeting with any advertiser and would strongly encourage you to stay at home, where possible.

More information on Coronavirus and AdultWork.com can be found here.  More information on what you are permitted to do under the current conditions can be found on the Government's Website.

The girls pay to get a phone number listed, removing it would cost AW income, which probably explain why it hasn't happened.

Offline Moby Dick

They removed the booking facility a week or so ago
Some profiles blatantly say they are still working through Covid 19 and ask clients to book via the email system, texts or phone.
Others state reduced services, ie no kissing, no OWO.
Very few with the green available today lights state they are not available for meets and / or state webcam and phone chat only.

I notice a lot more are doing outcalls only, probably because they can’t justify the hotel costs, feel conspicuous, or can’t make a booking.

Also I’ve noticed several new profiles with green available today light on that have only just started since the lockdown.

Online Vice Admiral

I fear that my initial reaction was somewhat naive!

This statement is utterly disingenuous.  Pure window dressing.

As Casio points out, not allowing phone numbers to be displayed would lose Adult Work money.  Ditto not allowing escorts to pay for the "Available Today" green light.

Heigh-ho.

Offline winkywanky

It's bullshit.

If they really wanted to stop personal bookings they'd remove girls' phone numbers.

I suspect they only put up the banner because they were leaned on.

So I hope they get leaned on harder now. They don't give a shit.

Offline winkywanky

As for the lost Green Light and visible phone number money, they must be making up for that with all the extra Webcam bookings  :unknown:

AW are swimming in money, their attitude stinks. For the amount of WGs on their books, they hardly have the level of staffing/'customer support' of say, eBay or Amazon, do they?

Offline Itsnotshy

As long as Adultwork remove the booking system then it's up to the escorts and clients to obey the law with regard to how they use the telephone. Adultwork isn't their daddy
We all have telephone contact numbers, we just choose not to use them for meetings atm.
Otherwise you could have a situation where there is a demand for all telephone numbers for non essential services to be removed from the interweb, just in case people arrange a meeting.
It really is the responsibility of each adult as an individual to follow the rules, not the responsibilty of corporations or the government to nanny us.

I find your argument persuasive, Itsnotshy; and the final sentence is deftly put.

One must always be on guard against any tendency we may have to grandstand, virtual-signal or be holier than thou.  So I lower my sword to half-mast.

(But that doesn't contradict the fact that Adult Work are a bunch of shysters!)

They are like a pusher drug dealer living off the money, saying it’s not their fault if people OD and die of drugs they sell

Another thought, why are they allowing new profiles if you can’t book anyone.

This is a very cleverly drafted lawyer letter.

Firstly it satisfies the only meet individuals from your household/stay at home criteria.

It then moves on to demonstrating  how serious they are by removing the booking facility.

It then deals with we will create an avenue for punters to talk to SPs by allowing them to display their telephone number (but please don't call them to book) and display their green light (don't assume that means they are available to fuck)  :D

Then it implies profiles are purely so you can see who your talking to or for cam purposes. So non- physical contact only  :D

Finally it reinforces the message stay at home despite a phone number, green lights and tits in ya face.

Absolute bollocks .... AW have refused to close and have simply protected themselves in the unlikely event that a Cyber enforcement task force will commence any legal action.

Window dressing, just demonstrating that they're doing something  !

While I agree people should take personal responsibility, the reality is that sometimes you do need to protect people from themselves. A lot of the advertising SP's are foreign and probably don't have family over here to worry about infecting. Couple that with gagging dicks and it's a recipe for disaster so in this instance I would endorse AW closure for a period.

So they stop the display of mobile numbers...people will make bookings via messages. So they stop the message system...nobody using the site can arrange bookings or contact each other. That messes things up for those who plan in advance. I've had a provisional booking request for the end of this month. That's looking less and less likely. I reckon he'll be sending me a message asking to delay until end of May.

I have no doubt AW are being disingenuous here.

In any case, we're in full Lockdown now, and everyone knows that the Lockdown will be removed in stages. Future bookings can be made as that unfolds.

I think the truth is that there will be an absolute avalanche of bookings (and bodily fluids) as soon as normality recommences. It's obvious. Plenty bookings for punters and WGs alike, when the time is right, not through the back door.

The truth is if AW were really serious they would:-

Remove the green light, telephone and e-mail facilities and leave direct chat and cam only.

Planning ahead during a national emergency is absolute nonsense and practically meaningless. God forbid either the punter or the SP or both could be dead by then. Things are that serious. Bonkers!

Not sure I've willingly shared bodily fluids with any WG :unknown:

It says "illegal" a lot, unless a copper catches you both in the act and uses their discretionary power to ask you to disperse or slaps a civil penalty with no criminal record on you then that's still wide of the mark really.

People make plans all the time in normal situations. You never know when you can kick the bucket, plans are made regardless. Of course this isn't normal, doesn't mean people can't plan, and change them according to the situation.

This is my third post on this thread (including my opening post) – and I find I’m changing my mind as often as I change my socks.

This morning I’m in hard-line mode, my view being that Adult Work is being incredibly irresponsible in continuing to facilitate prostitution during this international emergency.

Is paying to have sex with whores a human right that over-rides all other considerations?

More of a human right than stopping in the street to talk to two other people?  Or walking in the park twice a day?  Both of which are currently against the law.

Since 2016 even the famously libidinous French have decided that visiting prostitutes isn’t a human right, the purchase of sexual acts from an adult being punishable with a fine of up to €3,750 (although, needless to say, my own view is that the cheese-eating surrender monkeys have got this one wrong!).

In some respects Nanny State and / or Nanny Plod are perhaps being a little too overbearing at the moment.  Nonetheless, during these unprecedented times, we should probably give Nanny S. (if not always Nanny P.) the benefit of the doubt – as long as the nannies don’t go on being too bossy for words once life returns to normal(ish).

Yep, AW trying to cover their backs whilst still floating under the radar and earning revenue via the green light/phone numbers.

Pubs, hairdressers, gyms etc are all closed and out of business because they allow for close human contact. Yet AW is very much open for business. Even worse, we know what part of the body men make a majority of their decision making with. That alone tells us that everyday, punters will be meeting WGs via AW green lights and phone numbers showing. That WG may see a couple of guys a day, which alone is creating hundreds and hundreds of additional contact chains. Meanwhile AW are also profiting off the increase in webcamming. Unethical on a couple of fronts.

P.s, re below... sacré bleu!!!

That's true, V A; but why should we expect any different from them?

After all, there have been more than enough posts over my 3 1/2 years of contributing to this Board reminding us that AW isn't some kind of benevolent matchmaker but is nothing more than the market-leading money-making enterprise for whoever is behind it in the field of bringing SPs and clients together.

In the same way that some of the members on here from time to time remind those of us on the fluffier end of the punting spectrum - myself included - that a meeting isn't a date, but is a paid-for sexual service delivered by a Prostitute, can we not just agree to see the AW statement as typically cynical of them? However much we discuss it, they aren't going to change it any time soon.

As ever A/Ws main and primary interest is trying to ensure the money keeps rolling in, otherwise they could take numbers off profiles and bring in other restrictions.

If its not happening already in this health emergency I would like to hear about civilian police workers ringing or emailing still advertising as working WGs and offering them advice about stopping working, or risk getting nicked as well as possibly infecting themselves and others. If it were up to me I would extend this communication to a warning not to continue working but don't know exactly where that stands legally at present.

In my punting area in some postcode areas there are now more A/W profiles than there were before the virus and present situation sadly. And I am far from convinced there are overall less WGs working and less punters punting. Even a WG who states she isnt now working, or has even deleted her A/W profile could still be seeing regulars, not saying this is necessarily happening a lot as I don't know if it is or it isn't, but who knows.

Now, in a speedy example of life imitating pessimistic prediction, I see that the Chief Constable of Northamptonshire has just said this:  ""We will not, at this stage, be setting up road blocks. We will not, at this stage, start to marshal supermarkets and checking the items in baskets and trolleys to see whether it's a legitimate, necessary item.  But again, be under no illusion, if people do not heed the warnings and the pleas I'm making today, we will start to do that."

Once Nanny Plod starts deciding which items we have in our trolleys, it's time to head for the hills.

I am, for example, quite partial to olives, but I think there's a fair chance that if Nanny P. found a jar of them in my trolley, he'd class them as an illegitimate – and indeed suspiciously alien – purchase, and insist I buy lardy cake instead.

Yep, that was the point. In the context of covid, any bodily fluid exchange (kissing, touching, sweat etc that involves your hands or mouth) could be risky. Kind of limits your punting options but regardless of that, just sharing an environment that's had many people passing through cant be great. We have no idea how long this virus stays in the atmosphere or how far it can spread.

I remember the days before Adultwork and I'm in no rush to go back there. Yes, the AW owners are oderous leeches making cash and doing just enough to avoid legal action and I know we now have UKPunting to advise us on choices to make, however....

Imagine a world of no Adultwork and where UKP gets shut down due to some ill-thought out legislation banning any websites that still operated during Covid-19. How will we know what girls to avoid?
So the other option are Parlours. Unfortunately a shadow of the heights of the 1990's. VivaStreet ad's...really?

I remember the days of adverts in the Evening News (they won't exist now due to newspapapers going bump), or buying Contact mags from Adult Cinemas (What?) just to get a number for an SP, then getting there and realising the person looked nothing like the advert. Punting is much easier with AW in existence, despite all it's faults.
