Been watching The Summit on ITV/Itvx. A group of "ordinary" Brits are given 14 days to ascend a mountain on New Zealand's South Island, to win a big cash prize.

It's car crash TV. Some of the contestants are hugely irritating, (and one woman is just huge).  I've seen 3 episodes and they're already way behind schedule so it's doubtful that they'll get there in the allocated time.

Lincoln Lawyer on Prime - very good

War Machine is coming in March with that bloke from Reacher.

Like most people, I thought Detectorists was wonderful, but I'm struggling with Mackenzie Crook’s new series, Small Prophets, of which I watched the second episode yesterday.

I find it boring.  The characters are uninteresting, and the scripts are not as sharp or well-observed as the Detectorist scripts.  It's watchable, and I'll probably persevere; but I'm underwhelmed.

And yet there seems to have been nothing but rave reviews.  The Times gave it five stars, and in the Sunday Times Rod Liddle said it was “even better” than Detectorists.

Oh well.  De gustibus non est disputandum.

I've watched Say Nothing on More 4, which is a dramatic adaptation of a book about the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

As you would expect from the subject it delves into some very dark places, but in my view it's a balanced depiction of part of the UK's history.  Gerry Adams is one of the key characters portrayed and comes across as a duplicitous shitbag.

i am sure it must have been on before but just watched "The Rescue" on BBC 2 - about the group of school boys (a football team and their coach) trapped underground in flooded caves in Thailand in 2018.

What a rescue operation by a very international team  - worth a view, probably on BBC i-player

Murder, drugs, corruption, racism. Good acting, story and soundtrack.

Stars Mothusi Magano.

I enjoyed Being Gordon Ramsay on Netflix. It goes behind the scenes of the fit-out and staff training of his restaurant on the 60th floor at 22 Bishopsgate. I always watch stuff like this because the insight into businesses is fascinating.

I’m a fan of Ramsay and have seen him cook live and eaten in his restaurant 1890 at the Savoy. That was an incredible experience and thankfully I wasn’t paying!

It does have good reviews though  :unknown:  Stars Alisha Weir.

In The Cut (2003). High school teacher meets detective during a murder investigation. A generic erotic thriller with art house pretensions, it's not particularly bad but the flaws spoil the overall product. Directed with a certain amount of flair by Jane Campion, it's mostly notable for a full frontal nude appearance by lead actress Meg Ryan, it's brief but tits and bush are on full display.  C+

Ghost Train (2025). Young woman YouTuber investigates strange occurrences in a mysterious subway station. South Korean horror that's inventive, surreal and blackly humorous and presented with a healthy amount of visual flair. I really enjoyed Ghost Train and heartily recommend it.  A-

In Cold Light (2025). Framed for murder, a young woman goes on the run from corrupt cops and a dangerous crime boss. Undercooked thriller that stumbles from scene to scene without really engaging the audience, my interest pretty much died after the first half hour. Stars Maika Monroe.  C-

A Kind Of Kidnapping (2023). A financially strapped couple kidnap an obnoxious politician, but things don't quite go to plan.  Vulgar, expletive ridden British comedy that's actually rather funny, I was pleasantly surprised with this one.  B+

A Private Life (2025). American psychiatrist in Paris is convinced one of her patients has been murdered and sets out to investigate. French mystery/thriller that intrigues early on but ends up being a bit of a damp squib by the end, too many loose strands that never really go anywhere. Jodie Foster who speaks fluent French stars in the lead role. C-

Good Boy (2025). A dysfunctional couple kidnap and imprison a delinquent teenager, with the intention to completely rehabilitate him. I think this will be one of the strangest films to be released this year, a British/Polish co production that's weird, warped and faintly absurd, but still oddly watchable in a grim sort of way. Stars Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough.  B

Started on Dinosaurs, but ditched it towards the end of the first episode. Personally, I thought it was a bit tedious, and the tired sounding narration by Morgan Freeman made it worse - Zzzzzzz. Came across to me as more of a docudrama suited for kids (for example, the bit with that thick-skulled “alpha” running through the legs of a larger herd of dinosaurs - very Jurassic Park style). Also seemed to be a lot of factual stuff missing i.e. where did the first reptiles actually come from? Another case of style over substance in my view. Wasn’t overly impressed with the CGI, either.

Offline Darren101

That’s fair.  Some of the action was a bit longwinded and unnecessary.  I did find some of it boring and skipped ahead a bit past those moments. Also not sure how accurate if all is. CG not perfect, sure but one seen worse in movies. Some moments too predictable but hey, I enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs anyway.

Didn’t think it was that bad.  Isn’t going to win any awards but it’s an entertaining enough action movie and an easy watch for it’s 90 mins or so.

Quite raunchy - I liked Myha'la Herrold who plays Harper Stern. There's all type of sex from episode one. It feels a bit like my time on trading floors, the terms, attitudes of Diva traders not getting their special coffee or salad dressing to employees sleeping on the premises.

I did try sleeping in the office a couple of times (missed the train home and too pissed to drive :scare:). We had automatic presence detection lights, unless you were completely still they kept coming on. You couldn't sleep in your chair, so to avoid the lights coming on you had to sleep on the floor under a desk  :D

Traders used to keep spare shirts, toothbrushes, etc. in their desk drawers in case they didn't make it home after a heavy session.

Don't think it will be bothering the Oscar judges for the next awards
