Not sure if this was recommended before, so apols in case I missed it.

I really enjoyed Obituary, an Irish black comedy about a woman obsessed with death who works as an obituarist for the local newspaper. Starring the beautiful Siobhán Cullen.

Probably appeals more to Xtro who shares my love of martial arts cinema…Drunken Master 2. 1994 Jackie Chan movie. At 40 years old at the time, some doubted he’d be able to pull it off but showed the naysayers he had more than enough left in the tank and filmed some of the best fights of his career. The end fight scene alone took nearly 4 months to film and lasts 7 minutes. It’s spectacular.

More impressive is that Lau Kar-leung was 60 years old, the old man that fought Jackie under the train!

Yes he still had it. And the ubiquitous tea house fight showed him in fine form.

Sorry to contradict, but, I found it quite average.

Bit confusing as to who's who, and who did what to who, and why ?

Not that funny either. Could be a Marmite series  :unknown:

A tea house fight? How unique.   :rolleyes:

The stunt at the end, where Jackie falls backwards into the red hot coals and pushes his way out of them, he did himself... obviously.
He talks about it (at the end) in this interview;

Note:- He says 3 months to film the end scene.

The end scene alone is better than most films IMO;

No faking those hot coals. I notice they don’t even apply any burn gel to his hair either like they would have done for an American movie.
First time I saw them end fight I was blown away by the speed and timing. Nothing like it was seen in western cinema. I’d love to see a third movie with Jackie as the old master now.

Enjoyed Clarkson's Farm Series 3.

let it run in the background while I was doing other stuff, because I tried to watch Series 1 and 2 but got bored and bailed. This time around it drew my attention much more.

Felt a Top Gear vibe in a good way. Clarkson's madcap schemes, some of which actually worked. And the rubbing along with Hammond and May was now spread across more amigos. The seaweed frackers in the car park - that was good - and there was more like that to also enjoy.

Farming? Loving their livestock and killing them as Clarkson described it. Encapsulates humanity. The planet's apex predator - absolute monsters, but we cannot help it.

"Ronnies:Ronnie Scott and his world famous jazz club."

I'm not a massive jazz fan, but the way the documentary was put together was so good, be it the evocative and magical black and white film showing the cool cats of jazz and their followers post-war, and the later colour recordings of the greats that even a novice like me can appreciate, like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Van Morrison, Chet Baker, Buddy Rich, and so many more.
Even better is the focus on Ronnie Scott himself, such a talented and gifted man with a lovely understated manner, and you really feel for him when you learn how fragile his mental state could be sometimes.
Great documentary, available on BBC IPlayer.

Likewise, looking forward to seeing this if it is a cinema release. I am about to start reading the book written by Damien Lewis which the film is based on.

Outer Range, Series 1 & 2, Prime Video

Totally mad mix of modern Western and Sci Fi. Well acted and produced. Inventive script. No idea how it will end up, sometimes think the writers don't know either and are making it up as they go along.

I gave up on Series 1 when it came out because early on we were already into time travel, which I think is more Lo Fi than Sci Fi.

When S2 appeared I decided to try again and try harder to suspend my disbelief.

Really enjoyed it. The melodrama is played to the hilt which is hilarious and at times I was thinking I had no idea what was coming next, which is a delightful change from the bland and predictable output often seen on the Streamers.

Well it turned out to be due to lack of maintenance of the pool patio area, which collapsed into the underground garage, which caused some of the main piles that help the building up to sink which then caused a catastrophic failure of the building but they did also find that it hadn't been built to the original design including the developer had decided to stick a penthouse on the top which added weight.  There had been signs of problems with the pool area for years and they were aa plan to fix the pool area issues, but it collapsed before they started the work.

Pickings (2018). The local mob tries to extort money from a female bar owner but end up wishing they hadn't. Pickings was made on a shoestring budget, but the colourful cinematography interspersed with animated sequences makes it feel like a bigger and more expensive production. Inconsistent writing and some cheesy performances are minor flaws, but director Usher Morgan's debut feature impressed me, I like a filmmaker who takes risks even if they don't always work.  B-

The Last Stop In Yuma County (2023). A rest stop in the middle of nowhere (Arizona, actually), a hostage situation and last but not least a travelling knife salesman. Director Francis Galluppi has clearly watched a lot of Tarantino films, there's even a sequence that's pure Quentin, in fact probably better and I mean that as a compliment. A mildly entertaining crime caper but very derivative, performance wise Richard Brake steals the show as one of the villains.  C

I’ve watched the Tattooist of Auschwitz this week, a mix of harrowing and heartwarming. Ultimately it’s a love story but in places as you would expect it’s so dark and the relationship between Lali and his SS handler Baretzki is fascinating. Harvey Keitel is excellent although the accent differences between old Lali and young Lali is a bit strange.

Man’s inhumanity to man is interspersed with love stories and acts of supreme sacrifice.

Stumbled across Blindspot on Netflix.  Curious central plot ( won't mention it as it would spoil Ep 1) but watchable - stylistically reminiscent of Blacklist in that each episode  is 'self contained ' but the ongoing storyline  continues.

King was pretty good to be fair if you like them sort of films which I do,saw Angelica the other day different type of vampire film about a group of people who kidnap a rich man’s ballerina loving daughter who isn’t what she seems,very very gory but a change from the normal vampire films (like I said earlier) and the daughter played a really good but scary part. :scare: :scare: :scare:
