Hi, any recommendations for cheap discrete hotels in Glasgow city centre or close to it.

Obviously maybe best not to directly name them on here.
Cheers

What's it like for getting past reception ?

Offline Boab

Excuse my ignorance with day hotels, how long do you get them for?

It depends on the hotel. The website gives details.

Depends on the hotel, normally from about 10am till 5pm.  Google "Day rooms", that should take to sites and hotel locations.

And basically £50 for the day.

Why are you bothered about ANPR? You're not doing anything illegal (are you?).

Offline onetwentyfour

ANPR is used to police private car parks, at hotels, supermarkets etc, when you dont follow the set rules for that car park, it issues an automatic fine to the registered keeper of the car.

Heads up, I had one of these day room places fuck me over last year.  Had the outcall arranged for 2pm, had to cancel it last min because of the hotel then got black listed by the WG for time wasting.

Hotel just over River, near Hydro.

Offline mickey1967

Strange, that's the hotel most popular with WG's in Glasgow. Has parking, a busy lobby area and is a bit more discreet for Clients being out of the city centre.

Offline ecosse1984

Rolled up with a booking mate at around1pm, with WG due to come about an hour later.  Stood to wait to check in as the self ons wouldnt take any of my details.  Staff member then said i had no booking.

Ive done loads of overnights here with work and stuff previously, so didnt expect this.

One at Springfield Quay that I’ve used, basic and budget but serves the purpose.

It's very fucking relevant for those who didn't previously know about it, when your wife opens a letter saying you violated the terms and conditions of a car park opposite a budget hotel, with the time and date you were there, but had no reason to be in the vicinity of, when you told her you were going to play golf 10 min from your house.

Being a private and not a council parking area, contrary to the claims of the letter - and popular belief - there's no legal obligation to actually pay the sly, conniving opportunist bastards the fine. But there is a legal obligation to give your wife half of everything you have when she files for divorce.

It was a light-hearted comment but, since you mention it, I couldn't give an arse about that situation as I don't have a wife.  Without wanting to sound too arsey, I'm not sure I care much about people who do have a wife and punt anyway (unless their circumstances are dictated by disability or by other un-resolvable circumstances), but I don't suspect many punters to share my view.

Neither do I - so neither could I, to be honest.

I just thought it was relevant to point it out to married punters, who might not realise why this issue was raised - as presumably, but understandably given your position, you didn't yourself. That's going on the basis that what I spelled out was the main reason behind raising ANPR as an issue, given the fines themselves aren't actually obligatory.

You are right that you are not 'obliged' to pay the fine, but car park operators are able to take you to court, and a court may decide you have breached a contract with the car park operator, so it's not entirely true to say the fins cannot be enforced. I believe the rules are different in English law.

Folks,
Anything that could potentially land someone in "HOT" water is relevant, in my opinion.
Even, if not relevant to oneself, it could help others, isn't that one of the things this site is about?.
Don't be blinkered because it's not applicable to yourself, at this moment in time... things could change in the future.
Everyone has started somewhere, and not everyone knows ALL the terms used.
Everyday is a learning day.
