Am I the only one concerned about a request for my potential exposure history in the event I contract COVID-19?

As I understand it a central pillar of the UK government approach to the virus is to trace all the people you have come into close contact with over the past couple of weeks.  It is unclear to me what if any boundaries of confidentiality are attached to this information and in particular if it makes it on your medical record and is seen by your GP.  I very much doubt that this information is treated the same way as a GU clinic (completely anonymous).  Anyone know more/concerned/changing their punting behaviour as a result?

Medical records are medical records.

Gum clinics may sometimes use seperste systems but if you have a notifiable condition then the medical practitioner has a duty of care whether they are GPs or Gum practitioner.

This is quite different and personally, I don't fancy having a note on my medical records to say that I have been knocking off tarts.

I'd say having a note on you GP's records would be the least of your worries, under the present regime of ten minute appointments the GP only looks at the issue in from of them, they never look back at your records other than test results, and of course GP's turn over at almost the same rate as working girls in a brothel. The real issue would be if you were unlucky enough to catch something in these early days when the numbers are low, if the health authorities ran a trace on you and it came  to the attention of the press that you had come into contact with a carrier in a brothel they would have a field day, make that a Chinese brothel and you would be headlines. Hard to hide that from the nearest and dearest. Of course if you wait till there are 500,000 corpses in Hyde Park no one will give a toss what you have been upto.

Jonestown - agreed.

Given how easily COVID-19 is transmitted, the (high) likelihood of infection from punting suggests this will spread like wildfire once it enters the population of punters and SP's.

I think you are right that transmission through paid sex is going to make a very tasty news item.

As I posted in the other now deleted thread .. whatever the long term outcome of the virus, the immediate future will likely see large changes to our daily lives and in the context of punting, the market  should (in theory at least) be decimated for the foreseeable future.

The containment stage we are at now will involve quite strict seeking out of contacts and yes you will be asked and it will be recorded and investigated.
The most likely outcome is that numbers will become so high somewhere down the line, that containment by tracing contacts will be largely abandoned?

My thoughts exactly.
The unintended consequences of being associated with a WG who has either infected you or you her would be impossible to explain to my wife.
Always assuming that is, that I come out the other side.
At my age I very much fear that the virus would finish me off.
I don't mind dying of a heart attack while in the arms of a beautiful young woman but catching a killer virus from her is quite another thing.
Although as it's quite likely that I'll get it anyway, perhaps I should just jump in feet first.

Look at Italy, number of infected cases have gone from 100 to more than 1600, and with in the last 48 hours an increase of 40% new cases, deaths in Italy are at 34.  Italy has measures put in place, and if working they expect numbers of infections to drop, but if they dont work, it looks like more towns will be put into lockdown, and everyone asked to self isolate themselves

Have you considered the differences between COVID-19 and the other viruses you mention. The death rate, for example, is significantly higher than the flu.

In 1918, at a time when social media was very much less active, around 50 million people died due to the Spanish flu.  Whilst, we cannot make straight parallels with the Spanish flu pandemic, the death rate due to this pandemic is a very scary number. :bomb:

The 1918 influenza pandemic (January 1918 – December 1920; colloquially known as Spanish flu) was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic, the first of the two pandemics involving H1N1 influenza virus, with the second being the swine flu in 2009. It infected 500 million people around the world, or about 27% of the then world population of between 1.8 and 1.9 billion, including people on isolated Pacific islands and in the Arctic. The death toll is estimated to have been 40 million to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million, making it one of the deadliest epidemics in human history.

The World Health Organization estimates that worldwide, annual influenza epidemics result in about 3-5 million cases of severe illness and about 250,000 to 500,000 deaths.

No I don't.

You've quoted the number of deaths out of severe cases of the flu which show a rate of about 10%. The overall mortality rate for the flu is around 0.1%. The overall mortality rate for COVID-19 is around 10 times higher.

Kovac,

I know a GU clinic will have a duty to report notifiable diseases but the difference is that they do NOT have my name.

In contrast, if you report symptoms of COVID-19 I suspect the first question you will be asked is what is your name and address, and any history they take of your potential exposures will be inevitably be linked to your medical records.

The important thing for all of us is not to panic and to remain as level-headed as possible (which is more a challenge these days as its ever been). Even the director general of WHO said that the advice at the moment is exactly the same advice he would give for the flu. For the vast majority of people the symptoms are mild, and cold or flu-like in nature.

You don't have to give it though. Mine has my first name, quite a common one, and the first half of my postcode, covering a large area with many GP surgeries. I am sticking to massage plus HE at the moment though, but I suppose that still involves close contact. On the other hand, so do buses and trains.

The central point of this thread is that any punter who contracts COVID-19 iwill be invited to reveal "close personal contacts" in the preceding two weeks - and without the anonymity offered in a GU clinic.  The response to COVID-19 clearly threatens punters anonymity and increases the risk of being outed.  That is squarely on the topic of punting for me

Way before it will be present in the paid sex world (and be easily identifiable as such) the virus will have reached the tube, and spread like wildfire. This is not AIDS, that requires intercourse to spread: this only requires physical proximity, not even contact. Actually, even indirect exposure: sick person sneezes in their hand, then holds on to a pole on the tube, then leaves, you enter the carriage, hold on to that same pole, then touch your face, done.

Having said that, it is very important that in this phase punters refuse interaction with girls that look sick and vice versa.

I'm glad you're banging your head against the wall, maybe that will reactivate some synapses. Obviously I'm not saying that there are no asymptomatic carriers (there are) or that sexual/physical contact with an person is the only way to transfer the virus: just read what I wrote on the previous sentence. What we should really do is stop seeing escorts and reduce social interaction in general until the spread of the virus is under control. But I know very well how things go, and given people will go on seeing escorts for a while, at least stopping in the case of clearly dangerous situations is the bare minimum this community can do.

Offline whoya.kiddin

I have been following this over the last six weeks, reading a lot about the spread of COVID and reached the following tentative conclusions.

Because COVID 19 is a) easily transmitted and b) may not show symptoms for several weeks and c) there can be a period without symptoms when the carrier is infectious, COVID-19 is going to spread rapidly and containment will do little except slow the spread of the virus and moderate the crisis that is going to enfold the NHS.

However, during the "containment" phase, attempts to trace back a carrier's history of close contact and potential exposure are a real risk for us punters.  Any punter who is actively making bookings and catches COVID 19 in this period faces the unenviable choice of either lying about their recent medical/exposure-history to the doctors treating them or outing themselves as a punter to doctors and nurses who will have their name, address and will presumably be recording details on their medical records.

Once the infection is widespread, weight of numbers will force the NHS to abandon containment and with it attempts to trace the history of exposure of those infected.  At this point the risk of being outed disappears and punters are "only" risking exposure to the infection (assuming they have not caught it already).

Personally, I'd be tempted to try and catch the thing early, be ill, get over it and hopefully be able to resume "post-infection" punting.  The two problems with this are 1) there are some reported cases of the virus re-occuring after "cure," and 2) if the stats in Italy are correct and my read of them is correct, the current reports of mortality rate may prove an underestimate and thereby getting infected a more serious risk.

Sadly not .. my damaged synapses are beyond repair  :D

But I know very well how things go, and given people will go on seeing escorts for a while, at least stopping in the case of clearly dangerous situations is the bare minimum this community can do.

I agree, but my point was that the challenge of this virus, especially in comparison to its nearest historical equivalent SARS 1, relates the mild and asymptomatic carriers, so looking sick is irrelevant. At the moment the UK (to its credit) has carried out circa 12,000 tests of which only around 40 are positive so this virus is likely not currently 'out there' in large numbers, so both punting and travelling on the tube etc are low risk.

If that changes and we are dealing with an epidemic, then having sex with someone infected will almost guarantee transmission, whereas public transport will then be a much lower risk in comparison.

The interesting question for me is will it stop people punting?

As I posted above 'in theory' it should decimate the market ..... but I'm now not sure it will? It will certainly reduce activity. Brains in dicks .. head in sand etc. A dilemma for SPs too. Time will tell.
