Author Topic: Manchester Chinatown deserted due to Corona Virus  (Read 2460 times)

Saw a piece on the local news interviewing business people in Chinatown saying the fear of Corona Virus has massively affected them. Apparently the area is all but deserted apart from local Chinese people. I wonder whether any of the local rub and tug places are running special offers to get customers back in ?  :D

I was working down there yesterday and wouldn't say its deserted at all, typical media blowing it out of proportion

I hadn't given it a thought but I wouldn't blame anyone for swerving anything Asian until there's a vaccine.  I know we have a risky hobby but 1:50 mortality rate, fuck that !

I've noticed this online chinese clothes storing is offering massive discounts - 85% in some cases - in an attempt to keep the cash flowing

I’ve been in Chinatown tonight and it was a whole lot quieter than it would normally be. On the way home I listened to Ian Dale on LBC accuse people who currently swerve East Asian’s or Oriental’s of being racist. I think I might currently be a touch racist then.

I walked through China town on Wednesday night to meet friends for a beer and walked back a couple of hours later. I must say it was definitely quieter than normal so possibly the fear factor is clearly affecting the area.

Good lord. Quite the website, some of these could easily be the source of vivastreet galleries. Thank you Scutts. EM

It's definitely not deserted.  I was there yesterday and it looked as busy as usual.

It was around 8pm last night. Apart from a few groups of Chinese people. There were less than 10 cars on Faulkner St car park.

It's also feckin cold this time of year, so not so many people on the streets in the evening.

 Yeah people are staying in/away for a variety of reasons.
