I have both helped other people, and received help from others on there myself.

What do I or others get from doing that.....Nothing.

At the moment I am planning on buying a new TV and went to AV forums to seek the recommendation of which TV to buy. What do those who helped me get from that.....nothing.

I own a car, and have went to forums to get help diagnose and fix when my car has problems. What do those who post on there get....nothing.

At the end of the day, you can think, I get nothing for doing this. Or you can think you do get something from it. Only you can decide that.

However though, a more basic view of looking at this. The forum rules say if you want to remain a member you need to be active on the site and the site is hidden to non members.

Your first review as a newbie was somewhat mellifluous and gushing. Well written though  .

ANY new member will receive a lot of scrutiny, it happens to us all (for good reason, touts must be recognised and excised, but not before a little 'fun' is had with them). You received scepticism as a result.

Then you wrote another review. It only got one response (not negative). Perhaps it was a quiet day on UKP? They do happen. This probably pissed you off, to various degrees we all crave the recognition and affirmation of our peers.

Third review: by now you're pissed off for the above reasons, and although the review is descriptive and helpful, you're now confrontational. You even manage to purposely include the complete no-no of treat her well at the end, just to make the point  . This is destined not to go down well  .

What I would say is wind your neck in a bit, take a deep breath, put up a couple more helpful reviews (please don't write a Negative just for the sake of it), and weather the storm. Stand up for yourself without losing your rag and you'll start to have one or two guys standing up for you. Then, it's onwards and upwards  .

Punting intel,  general human interest if you like talking/reading about sex, and getting to hang out with fellow hobbyists.

You may have done ok these last 10 years without said intel, but you might find it more valuable in the future. Good WGs might get harder to find by a lone scout , and possibly as the years roll by you'll have less tolerance for being messed about.

As for hanging with fellow punters, as others are saying it's common for new reviewers to receive scepticism. If anything you've had more appreciation than most considering you made the 'treat her well' joke. If you adapt a little to the site ethos & do a few more useful reviews you'd likely get more thanks & less challenges, if that's what's bothering you.

First of all, a positive TOFTT review from a member with very little history will always get challenged. It's one of the very few ways this site can police itself from touting and fantasists. Just accept it as a type of good natured hazing. Stand up for yourself if you feel like it, answer questions if you can and don't take it personally.

The response you have received to both your reviews and this thread have included a mixture of constructive comments and teasing abuse (plus some in bickering which has nothing to do with you). That's pretty much what you can always expect from a masculine forum. Actually, it's pretty much what you can expect to hear when any group of blokes get together to chat shit. If you need positive re-enforcement of your views with slaps on the back and cheers of "well done my boy!", you are not going to get that here.

There is 1 key way that you benefit from this site, receiving information. The first time you do a search to check on a WG that you are about to visit and UKP warns you that she is better off avoided. Or it points you towards a WG that you would not have noticed but really enjoy visiting. Then it's totally worthwhile. And in recognition of that you add your experiences, to help the next guy to come along looking for the same things you were.

They were girls no-one else had reviewed, but I imagine you may well have looked them up on here first in order to discover that.  Had they been, you'd have got something out of it.  Luck of the draw.

I think it stands to reason that if there aren't any reviews on here, when the first one drops it means that those keeping their powder dry come out of the woodwork.  I look and cross-reference AW reviews at who else the person has reviewed and if it's someone I've seen or am aware of it sort of validates them in my mind above a merely fraudulent reviewer but doesn't get over the inherent risky nature of the traceability of the the reviewer making their opinion possibly not all it could be.  Therefore this is a valuable resource.

As other people have mentioned, giving your opinion and/or information isn't likely to give you anything other than a lovely warm feeling in your heart if you're that way inclined.  And if you're not, then don't do it and trust your instincts.  I have to think very hard when visiting someone with no reviews on here and only AW ones to their credit.  But I've done it and then reported on here, and considered myself a good little soldier for doing so.

Once I've bought something cheap and have it in my sweaty mitt it doesn't benefit me to tell anyone where I got it cheap, but you generally hope that a little community builds where you give it a bit here and there and in the goodness of time you might get a bit back.  But you may well not.

I don't see why this is news for anyone really.

This is a forum. Just as you can post within the forum rules, this also applies to everyone else on here. So members can comment as they see fit whether you like it or not.

100% this. I’d say a significant chunk of my own reviews don’t get any replies but I put that down to the fact I have given a lot of information so there’s not much for readers to ask. I’m sure if I wrote less informative reviews than I do, maybe there would be more replies asking about info I missed off but I’m happy to just lay it all there.

Why? As others have said this forum is all about giving truthful write ups on our experiences to help fellow punters. My punting experiences have improved since joining UKP because of the information I get that others have shared.

One thing I’m not is someone who feels entitled, which unfortunately seems like what the OP is after. What is it you want from fellow punters? Acknowledgement of your existence? Virtual high fives? Affirmation that your ten years of punting has been epoch defining?

You can include MINOR misleading info to confuse her, but it has not to really affect the authenticity of the review in the eyes of other punters, by that I mean if it was Tuesday, claim it was a Friday. Why would you feel the need to investigate what other members do or do not do, if you don't like anyone posting put them on ignore and you won't see their comments.

All you need to worry about is yourself and you staying within the rules, you are, of course, free to report any member you you feel is in breach of the rules and needs reporting. Though trivial post reports and unwarranted attempts to get other members banned is frowned upon.
