Very occasionally I have the need to travel to the Carmarthen area.  About a week before one such trip, I arranged to meet Wendy afterwards, and this was agreed on AW.  I explained that on these trips I would leave early and that I would not have time to log on to confirm in the morning.   She agreed that she would let me have her phone number the day before so that I could confirm, both as I was on my way to Carmarthen and again when I had left there and was on my to Llanelli.    The morning before the meeting I sent her a PM on here to remind her to send me her phone number.  Nothing arrived either on here or  on  AW, although she had logged on.   In the morning I did make the effort to log on in case something had been sent overnight – nothing so I sent a final PM to say that I couldn’t wait any longer.

The following day she did answer an email saying that I had sent my reminder/ confirmation via ukp & not AW, and remarks about it being against the rules.

I did privately discuss the matter with a couple of trusted members who advised that it might have been a misunderstanding and it probably wasn’t worth writing a negative.

The matter was dropped.  However, I then read HJ’s comments, and asked for confirmation that PM could be used to confirm /book meetings.  I mentioned no names.

Wendy posts to announce that I was referring to her, that what I had suggested was against the rules and that I was trying to get her banned.  It’s ridiculous.  I have no wish to try to trap a SP whom I have never met, and more importantly it is not my call anyway.

I have therefore decided to post a review, albeit contrary to my initial thoughts, as I think other members should be aware that Wendy is capable of posting false allegations about punters.

The legitimacy of a review in the circumstances that you describe here and on the linked thread would seem to be a settled matter, and you will obviously have a record of the correspondence to back up your account

What does fascinate me, is the tendency for WG's on here to assume that reviews are theirs, and fail to realise that they really belong to the community and site in general.

That only applies to positives of course, they rarely want to take ownership of negs

It does make me wonder why WGs actually comment on here. In the long term it doesn’t do them any favours. Wendy has usually been pretty funny to be fair to her but I saw OMs comments on the other thread, had no idea who it referred to (so he was playing fair) and then Wendy raised that it was her. No need to do it. Whichever side of the fallout you agree with, it doesn’t matter, OM started from a point of being fair and above board and the WG finishes with a negative. I hope that she refrains from  commenting here but if history is anything to go by I’m  sure it will be too much of a temptation to ‘put the record straight’

When a punter charges in to defend a WG I always feel like they have been prompted to by the WG herself. So whatever the motives of the defender they are almost always counterproductive with me.

In this case, even if the WG has had no influence whatsoever, the spurious nature of the comment (wrongly claiming it is more than 6 months old) makes me doubt Dougie more than before and less likely to meet Wendy.
