Think you are right with the analogy to backpage/craigslist. Probably had pressure from VISA/Mastercard and warned of removal of using them for payment.
Also the Seeking app was banned from the Apple App store due to adult/escort nature of site.

No, it’s a spectrum of different types of women with different needs and wants.  Some are indeed pro escorts with AW profiles in parallel, others still have their amateur status, and there are also plenty of ordinary women who have jobs and want a bit of extra cash and treated nice.  A very small number are genuinely looking for relationships that are not financially driven at all. 

What you find depends very much on how you interact with it.
