So next time I would like something really busy where nobody cares who you are but in good price so not hilton.

The comms are so flakey with the younger girls as they get a lot of messages and can be really flakey with arranging a meet a few have cancelled last minute on me. Ibis Styles on the south side of Southwark bridge. Not huge but easy enough for “guests” to walk in and the staff never gave a second glance to the girls I’ve had over.

Mercure Hyde Park (just around the corner) has a 2nd entrance via a Brasserie on London street. It bypasses reception completely, no keycard needed plus you can wait inside with a drink for a meet n greet first. I use this hotel often. Get discounts as a member.
Hilton Paddington also has an entrance via the station escalator.

I agree Mercure Paddington is too cramped. The first time I used it the SB said she felt very uncomfortable waiting for me to complete check in. Situation was not helped by the ‘footman’ hovering around in the cramped reception area.
The next time I used that hotel I got the SB to wait in the coffee shop next door and I then went and collected her once I had completed the checkin.

You can do your own research and 'case the joint' online thoroughly before picking a hotel. Just look at the photos on the hotel website, Tripadvisor, Booking.com etc!

Of course photos don't tell you everything ie what staff are like but it does help a lot - and certainly would have done in the OP's case, as he cited reception close to door and a busy hotel. Well, picking a hotel that's big, anonymous with reception far from door and lifts close would help, and staff at chain hotels are less likely to give a shit than those at smaller boutique ones.
