Author Topic: What makes a UKP member a useful contributor?  (Read 5862 times)

As the title states, What makes a UKP member a useful contributor?

It's a subject that has popped up several times over the years, either in a dedicated thread or as side discussions/general posts everywhere else, but maybe it's worth revisiting. Some example comments that I have seen include statements along the lines of:

- Someone that posts a reviews infrequently doesn't punt enough to know what they are talking about.

- Someone that posts lots of reviews must automatically have more useful experiences to share.

- Someone that has posted a majority of negative reviews doesn't know how to spot a good WG.

- Someone that has posted a majority of positive reviews is less reliable, because his standards must be lower.

Would you agree with statements like these? Are there any you would like to add? And besides reviews are there any other types of contributions to UKP that you have found equally useful?

Potentially, with a fresh set of eyes the newest members may be able to teach some old dogs new tricks. Or maybe the lessons of age and experience are still relevant to the new modern punter.

Offline jesse4585

Hopefully not too many will fully agree with those generalisations, though I guess there's some truth in them.

On the age thing, in some spheres,  digital marketing just as a random example,  I think it's very much possible to learn useful new tricks from someone much younger.

When it comes to something like punting,  I think that's much less likely except in the special case when they unearth a hidden gem, or maybe find some flaw in someone you were about to  book & share with a -ve review.    I expect only to learn things from more experienced punters.  But still happy to share things with younger punters even though I don't expect paying back.  The old teach the young, that's the way it's always been, certainly something I benefited from in my youth.

Very broad generalisations. There are other ways of looking at it, for example:

- Someone that posts a reviews infrequently doesn't punt enough to know what they are talking about.

They may have punted frequently but they're not posting reviewings.

- Someone that posts lots of reviews must automatically have more useful experiences to share.

Quantity doesn't necessarily equate to quality of knowledge.

- Someone that has posted a majority of negative reviews doesn't know how to spot a good WG.

Some members seem to prefer highlighting the negative.

- Someone that has posted a majority of positive reviews is less reliable, because his standards must be lower.

Some members seem to prefer highlighting the positive.

Some people obsess over reviews, which is understandable to some extent, as it's the lifeblood of the site. I started a thread ages ago for punters to offer excuses for not reviewing... reviews as an obligation add little value, the umpteenth positive for LittleMissPerfect? I hadn't reviewed in ages, wrote one the other day and it's completely pointless, some bird does a good massage/HE, every other reviewer has already said the same thing!

I think highlighting a failing is more important than restating a positive. I doubt I will add another positive review unless it's a newbie.

Totally agree with most of the above - it’s kinda hard today how much experience one has over another as some people may choose to sit on the fence - I myself leave many details out for many reasons but mainly to not exploit the finer details as not every lady will provide the same level of service as the next .

And agree with the above about individuals whom love to give out negativity when they truly don’t understand what is right for one may not be right for another - especially in the looks department as I’ve witnessed many occasions on forums of this nature people going on like a memorex decoder re-record not fade away. And will totally make the main topic into a total slagging match between other forum users . But well said once again on all of the above

Offline GorillaWarfare

Depends how you define "useful". See, "useful" to me is somebody who reviews all, if not most of their punts (obviously within the guidelines of the site e.g. no more than one positive review in a year for the same girl), whether positive, neutral or negative and however frequent. A person who punts once a month and writes a review on every girl is more useful than someone who punts every week and scarcely, if ever, reviews a WG.

Helping punters make a decision on who to see and who to avoid is a big part of this site.

Also, someone who is willing to offer advice. Granted, there's a load of repeat threads on here and it gets tiresome but a helping hand in the right direction on some threads - even to first-timers and people with no reviews - is no harm.

The site owner/admins seem to disagree.

Most reviews are useful. A string of positives indicate continued good service, a string of negatives the opposite. Mixed reviews you take your chances. Positives slipping into negatives, or vice versa, suggest a downturn or improvement.

I think that a useful UKP member is someone who post balanced reviews. Gives advice to other members and does not post meaningless posts.

I find that the members on here have saved me money and time from their reviews. Without this site I think I would of given up years ago. Also, as I have a diagnosis of autism and adhd I find it hard to contribute effectively but I try my best to be a useful member.

For me there are two key points

1. Are their reviews trustworthy?
2. Do they post useful information?

Offline NelsonH

Reviewing those who have a number of positive reviews already may NOT be pointless.

There is a tendency for service levels to fall off with the passage of time.

Advice that this has not occurred (yet) is most useful.

Not reviewing LittleMissPerfect is the same thing? If I see her and have an equally as enjoyable time as the previous umpteen then there's nothing much to add. If there is something negative to put into a review then it gives the next punter something to think about. It would be cuntish to have a shit punt and then pipe up on a subsequent negative that I had suffered a similar bad experience.

I recognise the importance of reviews and if someone new pops up and has a couple of reviews then another opinion adds value.

And continued positive reviews of an SP with plenty already tells us she's keeping up the level of service even if they add nothing particularly new to what's been said before.

If everyone stopped reviewing SPs because they thought they had enough reviews then in a few months time we get threads asking if anyone has seen so-and-so lately.

Given my punts generally contain somewhat different activity to that of others, my reviews are aimed at those who like a kinky kind of activity.

In the past I was more interested in getting my kink met and less in it leading to actual sex. Later on sex became a normal part of things. End of 2017 though I met my "regular" and so my reviews have become a lot fewer since then.

Aside from reviewing individuals, it can be useful to point out patterns that can often be seen in profiles etc. that are likely to mean a better or worse performer. No guarantees, and there are some hidden gems behind the dodgy profiles and a few poor ones among the sound-looking ones, but it's a good guide.

For example bad comms is often a sign of a pimped profile.

Offline advent2016

When I started reviewing and I had a potential negative I didn't post it as I liked to give the provider a second attempt now I post everything as someone pointed out that it still helps others.

Unless I'm taking one for the team I generally (other than my own repeat list) only select providers with multiple UKP positives as have found purple reviews are often meaningless

What I don't like recently is people making funny FB like comments that add no values at all

IF you're actively punting and seeing girls based off reviews or intel found here and you aren't reviewing or commenting constructively you're not being useful.  It doesn't matter about how many punts you do as any actionable intel is useful.  Sure you're "more" useful if you can offer more info to other punters that they might make informed decisions at lower risk to their VFM tally.

If you're irrational or unobjective then you diminish your contribution because the rest of us are left guessing as to how sound your judgement is.

If you encourage SPs to behave poorly or alter their service offering and pricing to the detriment of other punters then you're scum.

If you're withholding current useful information then you're not being useful, other successive punters may be losing time and money as a result.  Any time you "TOFTT" and it turned to shit, if that SP had been listed for even a few days it's likely that a UKP user (given the site's popularity) had already tried and failed with her, sure you should warn us but someone should have warned you before!  Silence about bad SP experiences has no utility, no cameraderie, no respect for those who've contributed to the benefit of others.  Condoning bad service or poor VFM is almost as bad as encouraging it.

If you encourage SPs to improve their service (skills, quality and consistency) then you're a champ.

If you convince SPs to drop their pricing or offer better deals you're a fucking legend.

I agree with most of this particularly the scum comment, punters who advise WGs to raise their prices are totally selfish scum in my book. What sometimes occurs is the deal is the punter stays on the WGs old rate while taking his advice other punters have to pay her new higher price. And the irony is I know of a few occasions when the WG did take the punters advice and increase her prices but she didn't keep him on the old rate. So the outcome was a selfish scumbag just helped ensure punters would have to pay more due to his big mouth.

With negative reviews the longer you don't post them the more punters may be getting the same off the WG, so get them up asap. And its of limited use posting on another punters negative review that you received the same if you have been a member a while, why didn't you review it to warn other punters.

With positive reviews I have fucked myself on occasion when the WG I gave a positive review to puts her prices up and becomes impossible to book as suits me. This happened with Ameera among many others. So I may now wait until I have had my fill before reviewing then the above makes no odds to me. I do still review positively quicker than that sometimes, and if I am not going to punt with the WG again no problem doing a positive.

A useful poster on here is one I find credible as a punter. If they do reviews all the better. UKP exists only if punters post, so many make hardly any contribution let alone do any reviews. They turn up out of the blue and get the hump if someone dares question their credibility, so contribute and that is less likely to occur.

I read on occasion that posters are too busy to do reviews, what a crock of shit, unless you are a slave you must be able to find time, at least sometimes, it only has to take a few minutes to post a review up, they don't HAVE to be long.

The probability is that my reviews will be positive. I carry out due diligence using UKE contributions, AW profiles and unashamedly feed off the positive reviews of other UKP members. I very carefully advise my prospective escort what I am looking for and if her responses are to my liking I turn up expecting a successful encounter and after forty punts I am yet to be disappointed. Radio silence would definitely get a negative but otherwise something unusually wrong will have had to happen to incur a negative.
I am a member and therefore it is my duty to review. What other members make of my positive reviews is up to them. I have done my bit.

Makes me wary what I post when in reality I should be able to be unguarded in my reviews.

So, in short there are plenty of reasons why people don't post reviews for every punt.

Absolutely and while we do tend to focus on reviews which are indeed important it's sometimes all the other info that's just as important when people contribute to a fellow punter who asks a question.
Essentially it's about the "Hive mind" of shared knowledge / information and experience that tried to help others get a good punt while avoiding the dodgy ones and various pitfalls along the way.

How did she ID you?
It's easy enough to review without giving away who you are.  Just stick to the details of services indulged rather than fluffy, sensational language that pins a personality on you that the girls can read into.  If you did very specific and unusual (off menu) acts then leave that out (you can always mention it in DM to interested punters, just tell them not to mention your name in their reviews).

Just on reviews as long as they are genuine ALL reviews are worthwhile having on UKP in my view, it doesn't matter if the WG has 100 reviews already, that review is unique to the punter posting it up. It all helps punters reading the reviews.

Offline PatMacGroin

Very broad generalisations. There are other ways of looking at it, for example:

That's my attitude. Broad generalisations like that are rarely accurate, because of their nature. They try to capture the whole gamut of experience in a single sentence, often ignoring the different perspectives provided by different users.

And there can be other ways to look at those generalisations besides the ones you mentioned. E.g.

They may have punted frequently but they're not posting reviewings.

Or they frequently revisit good WG's they have seen before, but still post reviews for all or most new ones they see.

Quantity doesn't necessarily equate to quality of knowledge

If some members circumstances mean they can punt very frequently and are good enough to take the time to review them all, then great! and all power to them! Although it doesn't automatically mean they somehow outrank or are superior to other useful contributors.

Some members seem to prefer highlighting the negative.

Not necessarily meaning they have a negative attitude. They may have found negative reviews most useful in helping them make their decisions so prioritise keeping others informed of their negative experiences. In my opinion a well timed negative review can be far more useful than a positive. A positive review reassures us we are making the right choice, a negative review can directly save us from wasting punting time, opportunity and money.

Some members seem to prefer highlighting the positive.

Again not necessarily meaning they have a positive attitude, or they are skilled at picking out the good ones. They may make the most of previous reviews to limit their risk and only visit largely reliable WG's. Some members may also regard that as leaching to an extent, but if a members resources or personality make them risk averse I can totally understand that. At least they are still making the effort to submit those reviews and providing further validation of that WG's reliability.

Offline PatMacGroin

For me there are two key points

1. Are their reviews trustworthy?
2. Do they post useful information?

And that's where some members with the skills to weed out untrustworthy or inaccurate posts can be as useful for that contribution.

An example of that was VW aka Virtual Waster. A lot of his comments were taking the piss or even straight out insults, but I felt they often produced reactions which revealed a lot about the character and reliability of other members. That willingness to make challenges was a useful contribution in my opinion, it's a shame he seems to have been absent from UKP throughout this year.

There are a few similar members that also seem to have been quieter this year, but I can't really remember all their names.

I do think that is another example of where a member may not contribute a lot of information, but as their perspective is more alternative a small contribution can still be a very useful contribution. (Not saying your contributions are minimal.)

A member that makes reviews or posts that focus on specific niche activity could be more valuable to some users than the more standard reviews. Especially, if there is little information about it on this site or elsewhere online. If it is something totally obscure it may seem more relevant to only a few users rather than the majority. But it can also introduce that fetish to a wider audience, and many of us may decide we like the sound of it and want to give it a go.

Factual, truthful honest reviews and opinions make a UKP member not just a useful contributor but an asset to the site and its users.

There are often occasions where I get the impression that details in some reviews have been lifted from posts made by other members. Makes me wonder if they really are accurate experiences provided by honest members. As opposed to for example:

a) Touts trying to create a believable history before dropping in there own advert.
b) School kids, inexperienced newbies, other non-punting busybodies bumping their post counts for additional access or credibility.

It can sometimes be very hard to tell the difference. I'll repeat myself by saying proven skills in ferreting those out is a valuable contribution to the site in my opinion. I have tried to make efforts in that direction on occasions, but don't think I've been very successful.

So, in short there are plenty of reasons why people don't post reviews for every punt.

Personally, I'll admit that I haven't reviewed every WG that I have seen since joining UKP. I have reviewed the majority. Some of my own experiences and reading the experiences of others have made me wary in some circumstances.

I usually only punt once or twice a month. I often revisit WG's I've enjoyed. I seem to have some personality trait (or maybe it would be better described as an OCD?) that makes it impossible for me to write brief reviews, I just have to include every detail that occurs to me. I know this can make me easy to identify, although only a few have subsequently mentioned anything, and I do my best to deny all knowledge.

I'm tempted to list the various general reasons why I have not reviewed here. However, I do not want to say anything that may dissuade other members from posting reviews. Most of the reasons are probably paranoia anyway. I hope that my reviews and most of my other posts have been useful to at least a few other members.

had some good laughs this time, apparently your some kind of trouble maker in chief ?  :D :D

on topic :

to me a useful member first and foremost is one that contributes review, the core function of this site.

everything else is secondary

one suggestion i have. although i dont know how it will be implemented is for recognition for punters who contribute foreign review or intel on foreign places e.g morocco. other members sometime assume they are leeching when infact they only punt abroad.

P.S. Excuse the glut of posts. As the OP I felt it's only polite to respond to the other replies where I felt I could.

In addition I'd like to mention a few members I have noticed that I think provide a huge contribution with many of their posts, in addition to the reviews they submit:

- FCB and Magnetico for their contributions to the Verification Photo threads. Capturing huge amounts of invaluable information and photo's.

- Tomato Sauce and Waffles for his contributions to the London TOFTT thread. Again capturing lots of useful profile info and photo's. He's cut down a lot of the time I spend searching AW.

- The_Don for his excellent memory and investigation skills (obviously developed from huge punting experience). Its remarkable the way he manages to identify reprofiled WG's and groups that work together, as well as the time it must take combining that info into useful posts.

- Sinz for making the effort to capture profile information and images and add them to reviews in the London region. There are so many reviews now it must be almost impossible to update all of them, but I remember a time when it seemed like he was. I've tried to help out by doing that for a  few reviews, mostly where I have taken a particular interest, so I recognise that it is very time consuming.

I'm sure there are many others that contribute in lots of similar of different ways across the various regions. Those are the ones that have I have noticed in particular and felt like acknowledging.

I don't think the London region is suffering for a lack of reviews or good contributors. Loosing some genuine members to keep out the many Touts, Trolls, trouble makers and general arseholes has to be a price worth paying?

I'm sure there are many others that contribute in lots of similar of different ways across the various regions. Those are the ones that have I have noticed in particular and felt like acknowledging.

Not to overlook the sterling work, both behind the scenes and in posts, of Mr Goldfinch.

(Missed this one)

That is the sort of behaviour I really can't understand. And it does make me angry.

A guy really has to be some sort of snivelling, pussy whipped arsehole to try and get into a WG's favour with an attitude like that.

Based on this post I think Moneyd could be a contender for that legend award: https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=232377.msg2369678#msg2369678

Old quote, but I remembered reading it and thinking, good job! I noticed the WG's prices increase and go back down again around that time. Still at the top end of what I prefer to pay, and haven't quite made it over to see her yet, hopefully soon as long as she doesn't try to increase again.

What makes a useful contributor to UKP. It’s very simple.
Post some reviews, positive or negative both are useful.
Contribute to the forum by advising others on your experiences good or bad
Finally, the most important. Don’t ask any fucking stupid questions. :D

Agree kudos to those who help the site run and all the behind the scenes work etc  :hi:

As for those who review, then a useful contributor will shine through by giving advice that looks to helps other punters in making a choice

There are some that leak their own ego and spend most of the review talking about themselves and often not prepared to admit there had a bad one. Goldwing, recently banned, was one example, and I would just ignore his reviews and posts.

In one line, if you'r looking for a good punt and understand that you get what you give, then you are a useful contributor.
