You have every right to call him whatever you want, but you aren't just doing that. In my opinion you are showing a narrow minded an very inaccurate view on this. I don't understand why you highlight and criticise the defence council for doing her job.
You seem to be getting very mixed up about quite a few things. Just to be pedantic, it wasn't a judge, it was a recorder and it was a he. Being of dubious/bad character is totally different to something being out of character. You could have someone with 1000 convictions for shoplifting, they would be of bad character. If one day they turned to violence that would still be out of character for them.
No doubt he deserves everything he gets, including a prison sentence, however I prefer to base any criticism on facts.
Davie, I'm blowing off steam. The guy in the dock was a cynical blackmailer with previous criminal form who ignored a warning from a copper to carry on the victim's misery. To put it into context a good friend of mine was blackmailed many years ago and it wrecked his life.
Judge, Recorder, whatever, does it matter? No.
I fully realise the basics of how our judicial system works in its basic function: everyone is innocent until proven guilty, no previous convictions can be mentioned during a trial so as not to prejudice a jury (but shall be taken into consideration when sentencing), a defence solicitor shall use every legal means to assist their client, defence and prosecution teams must share stuff they'll be bringing to court (failure to do so has recently led to many failed cases), etc.
I was just pointing out the almost comical stuff that gets said in court (and I know it has to be that way) in an effort to get a defendant off, even the worst pieces of scum who walk the streets.
Hope that's cleared it up.
