Author Topic: Condom split  (Read 2189 times)

I saw a working girl yesterday and the condom split as she was very dry and didn’t use lube. She doesn’t do any dangerous services and doesn’t even do OWO but it’s still panicked me somewhat.

Can anyone give me an insight into how likely it is that I could have got HIV, I only had sex with her for a couple of minutes. PEP is an option but it’s very expensive, but likely the route I’m going to go down.

Cheers guys.

The chance of you catching HIV or any other STI are minuscule except she's infected. Even then you would have to be really unlucky.

How did she react to it? That's usually a sign of whether you need to be worried or not.

I recommend you go to A&E as a GUM will not be open now and tell them you had sex with an SP and the condom split.

They'll sort you out.

That being said, the chance of you catching anything nasty is tiny.

Also, no sex for a while and get yourself tested.

It's not very likely at all, but probably best to get tested for a few months.

If you decided to go down the prep route it's not that expensive, compared with a punt, around £50 a month.

I'm not a doctor, these are my opinions.  HIV risk - very, very low to almost zero.   Other diseases also low, but not unlikely e.g. gonnorhea, etc. but treatable.

You should get yourself tested for peace of mind.  I think you have to wait 3 weeks before getting tested.

I also hate when girls don't use lube.  It increases the risk of condom failure.  Not least by splitting, but if you are very horny and wet, the dry pussy can effectively suck the condom off.

Thanks. She’s a seasoned pro and has 250 AW reviews. She was pretty calm and said she’s only had that happen once before, though I find that hard to believe considering her dryness and no lube used. She says she’s never had an STI and gets tested every 3 months. She was reassuring but also came across as a bit ditsy which didn’t fill me with confidence.

All the clinics I’ve been calling/emailing have been quoting circa £500 in London, isn’t it just a one month course, confused as to you mentioning a monthly cost? Cheers bud

I would say that minimal lubrication is better. Lots of lube cancels out the sensation whereas a bit more friction feels great.

I have no idea if links are allowed so google prep hiv - the top link should be to a site called 'i want prep now' - my prices are from their list of where to buy it from.

I believe, in some circumstances, in some places, it is also possible to get it on the NHS.

As to duration - most people who use prep do so coz of ongoing 'risky' practices - how long you would need to take it for a one off I don't know, probably for as long as needed to be sure you're clear of HIV. However long GUM tells you is needed for that.

Use google - in between all the ads there is occasionally useful information relating to what you're trying to find out ;)

ETA - I've done some more reading - 7 days is the recommended time after sex, however prep may not be useful in that it's supposed to be taken before sex to have it your system in case of any transmission - so dunno. Given that I'd ask GUM if it will have any effect before spending anything, if they say no then they are probably correct - the private clinics are just out to make money so, as long as they don't think it will do any harm, they will be happy to take your money in exchange for something that may be unnecessary and ineffective.

He was talking about PEP not PREP.

Call your nearest GUM clinic and be bluntly honest with them, you should be seen as an emergency case. Don't be ashamed of admitting that you had a condom break with a prostitute, unless you get someone really unprofessional they won't bat an eyelid.

How likely you may be to have risked an HIV infection or something like that can be discussed with the GUM clinic. If you're in a high risk category then you may be given Pep. You may also be at risk of Hep B unless you've been inoculated against it. If you're punting it's worth getting the Hep B vaccine.

Anything nasty will take roughly a couple of weeks to 6 months to appear. HIV won't be detectable until 3 months after infection, Hep B will take 6 months. Getting tested now will eliminate the possibility that you were already infected, however you can pass on your test results to the prostitute you accidently barebacked after a condom split. If she's a decent escort she'll also get herself tested and pass on her results to you. You should then get yourself tested every 3 months until the 6 months date has passed to eliminate or detect any STI.

Actually, nowadays, a blood test for HIV will give accurate results in most cases after only 1 month.

Hopefully the OP has already been.

I was told 3 months in 2017. A 1 month wait is a huge improvement.  :hi:

I feel for you as been there myself and panicked. When I punted in my 20s I had condoms break twice with street walkers one of whom was probably an IV drug user. This was before pep existed. Once in more recent years whilst doing anal with a fool who'd put baby oil up her arse as lube it broke again. On all occasions I shit myself. On all occasions I told the Gum clinic exactly what happened and was told I would be extremely unlucky to catch hiv. I also spoke to terrence Higgins Trust and they said the same.
A professional WG believe it or not is safer than some loose civvie in a nightclub (the words of multiple Gum nurses not mine). You have little to worried about just go and get tested for peace of mind.

I had a blood test and was told its 3 months. Perhaps my local gum clinic is slow at getting up to speed or perhaps it's changed since I last went.

They're probably a little slow. It's been that way for a while, and that page was last updated in April last year.

The NHS tows the line of 3 month window period. Reality is the 4th  generation test is accurate at 1 month for all but a fraction of a percent of cases.
It's wise to get a firmer all clear at 3 months but really 1 month will be accurate for all but a miniscule number of the population.

So they say 3 months to be 100% sure?

It depends on the test they're administering. Gen 4 tests can detect HIV from about 2 week but a month is when they're most reliable. As far as I'm aware most tests in the UK are only accurate 12 weeks after infection cause apparently that's the time when most of the population will have detectable antibodies.

I know, 4th gen tests will be fine for most people after a month.

A test every three months is fuck all if your a processional dick DJ

Imagine if she is giving you the "want to hear" version and it's less

I wouldn't base your reaction on anything she says just what you feel comfortable with

Give it a couple weeks and gets tested for the standed std's, i would find it highly unlikely you woulld have hiv but if your really worried do what you must

If you're worried about contracting HIV, you'll be looking at a one month course of post exposure prophylaxis, which should be prescribed. But the risk of contracting it is very low unless you have cuts and blood as it's a blood born virus. You're looking at less than 1% chance of contraction (if you'd gone full on bareback from start to end, done 100 times it's classed at less than 1%).

If you have been exposed, you need to get the meds within 24 hours. After 72 they won't be effective. But the doctors will discuss with you the reality of risk. Due to the level of side effects they prescribe only when needed.

Reality. You're going to be fine. Stick with using condoms. Ensure lube is used if things feel dry. Get tested at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks.

The WG is really not being tested enough unless she's barely seeing anyone. Every 4 weeks should be at minimum.

At 28 days most people will show antibodies in their tests HIV wise. About 95% per cent. You need to have it confirmed again after 3 months if your test is negative.

Every 3 months is probably too long but if she does covered oral on everyone and never had a condom breakage or slip off then testing every month may not be necessary. It really depends on how many guys she sees and ow/owo etc. But the fact she doesn’t use lube when needed is worrying because it could have happened a number of times. There is no shame in using lube in this business really. Health is health I don’t care if someone complains.

Reading on line some people will have the antibodies by 28 days but others may take longer to show antibodies which is why they recommend to be certain to wait till 3 months is up before having a test. Assuming you don't seek treatment straight away you can buy self test kits on line (recommended by the Terence Higgins trust) but the makers of these tests still recommend have a NHS test after 3 months to make absolutely certain. I've had a condom split and one very nearly come off so got tested myself to make sure I was not infected. So far all ok.

I think you need to listen to the girls on this one.

External Link/Members Only

The chance of getting it is 4/10000 if she is infected and as TS says if you were uncovered from the start. If she is infected and aware of it then the meds would reduce her viral load anyway so reduce that - it's the ones who are unaware that you have to be worried about. You are probably more likely to get ran over on the way to the GUM clinic. I know you are still going to be anxious til you have the all clear (and probably another one after that) but the chances are minimal. Probably the best thing to do is ask her when she was last tested, can you see her results and confirm she is clear.
