This is not meant to be a thread as such, more of a note of caution and a warning for those PBs out there who underestimate the value of having a punting phone.

Saturday I was on my way to a do, ordered an Uber around 10:00am and began to enjoy the function.

Around 4:00pm just realising my phone had fallen out of pocket and still in the Uber.  Borrowed a mates phone to try and recover phone, no joy.

Now, me thinking that as I'm single with no wife or girlfriend to worry about, I can use my main phone for my punting life, who's gonna know right?

This phone had all my filthy texts to and from regs,  enquiries to SPs about services, profiles of bookings, photos of me and WGs, a few videos even.

All this along side my family contacts, work colleagues and managers, close friends and relatives and more.

What followed was 4 and a half hours of ringing my phone, phoning the company, sweating and shitting of bricks thinking that whoever found this phone could sent all

this stuff to absolutely anyone and I would be totally fucked with no excuse.... :dash:

I know I could have remotely wiped the phone but I hadn't set that up yet.. The phone was locked but there are back doors in all phones so can be unlocked relatively

easily.  There was a severe case of punter's remorse setting in and I was depressed and feeling ill.... :vomit:

Long story short, I rang my phone once more, someone answered and said the phone was in a drawer all day and would be with the manager to pick up when ready.

Thank fuck for that....

Point of this being,.. married or single,

FOR FUCK'S SAKE, THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE... GET A  BASIC PUNTING PHONE WITH NO LINKS TO YOU OTHER THAN YOUR FINGERPRINTS.... :scare:

And don't use a separate media card in the phone. If the phone is accessed it's easy to remove the media card.

You can just encrypt the cards so they are only accessible on the phone it was encrypted on, this isn't a big deal... Just a tickbox.  :unknown:

That's the definition of a punting phone.
Why put any contacts / media on it that could be traced back to you?
If I lost my punting phone so what
Just get another free Sim and put in an old phone.

I use that text me app. Gives you a separate number and texting is free. Saves the need for 2 phones , plus  not easily found on your phone .

I have a basic smartphone (just in case I need google maps) but it’s otherwise clean. A few saved numbers and some dummy male numbers in the unlikely event it’s found, no pics, no vids, no FB, Twitter, WhatsApp or anything else. Even texts are deleted once I no longer need them after the event. I never call my “real” numbers from it or vice versa.

I always think a punting phone is safest because you can always say it’s a spare in case of emergency, whereas if you were found with a secret app or similar for calls/texts then it’s automatically suspicious. I don’t try to be too clever with tech as you’re always likely to be caught out.

Maybe a problem on Android but in the case of iPhone I don’t really see much risk.

As long as all steps are taken to lock phone /sim with whatever high strength security codes available.
Plus all other security features activated.

What phone is it?

If it’s locked with a passcode/ fingerprint I would t really worry to much.  If anyone finds it It’s probably no use unless they are some phone genius.

Any way I would probably do is to phone up the phone company or through there website to disable the number. As if anyone gets into it it probably be to much hassle to get the texts off that phone to there phone and send it to a number on your phone from there phone.

Totally agree with all of the above....

You only need to slip/lose/be unlucky/get careless once to be knee deep in that well known brown creek with no paddle... The advances in mobile tech savvy kids is

astounding, and may 'out' you just for a laugh.

DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT.... :vomit:
