Hi,
I'm off to France in early September with a couple of mates to look at the Normandy Landings. We are staying in Bayeux, and I was wondering if any of you had any experience of the nightlife in that part of France ?
I realise that the French punting laws are now pretty dire, but doing a search I couldn't even find any massage parlours offering tantric , let alone any strip clubs or clubs ... is that area a complete wasteland or am I just looking in the wrong places ?
       Any advice is welcome.... :hi:

For dinner look at:

or, if you want to spend a bit more:

When I went, they had a very good value for money (although not cheap) wine list.

Make sure you see the Pegasus Bridge, and do the rounds of the cemeteries.

Hi Dave,

I would have thought that with a lot of older guys like me and my mates visiting the area all year round that there would be some options about, but I couldn't find anything with a quick search ... it might be to do with the new laws in France, but normally girls and clubs find a way of getting round them ...

Thanks for the dinner recommendations MilleMiglia, but that wasn't really what I had in mind ... :dash:

Surely someone here must have found a club or massage parlour ...?

I know what you had in mind, so less of the sarcasm. I thought that some general tips might be appreciated, but obviously not.

sorry MM ...

I didn't mean to be nasty, as we all know this is a forum to help each other so any suggestions are welcome. As it happens we will be doing the cemetries, plus a couple of beaches and museums. Not sure whether we'll have the time for Pegasus Bridge though ... I've been meaning to do the whole Normandy thing for years, did Auschwitz with some mates a couple of years ago and that was very humbling .. also what a lovely town Krakow is ... really clean and modern with lots of cafe culture and I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Plus there were lots and lots of strip clubs all within walking distance of the main square with some stunning girls, and a couple of them did 'extras' for some extra Zloty if you wanted that ...

I guess that this tour will be purely cultural however ... hey ho

I think the museum at Pegasus Bridge is one of the best definately worth the trip; Point du Hoc is also well worth a visit even if it is American!
Port en Bessain is a pleasant spot for lunch. St Mere Eglise if you are travelling via Cherbourg

Sorry cant help on the punting front

Don't forget the Bayeux tapestry while you are in the area.

Hi chaps,

As I am now back from my Normandy trip I thought I'd finish the thread ... :hi:

Had a great time visiting the beaches and cemetries ... really interesting and thought provoking. There were a few decent restaurants in Bayeux, but the bars were rubbish ... completely dead except for a few old locals who looked like part of the furniture !

As for any action ... forget it. We asked our tour guide who lived locally and he said there aren't any lap dancing/ strip bars in the area, nor did he know of any "establishments" in the Normandy area ... I think the Gendarmes have tightened up on the whole business since the laws in France changed... The guy who was the barman and concierge in our hotel didn't know of any either ... he directed us to an Irish Bar, which turned out to have 3 blokes sitting around a table smoking heavily and drinking Ricard !!

So to summarise, go and enjoy the history and the local area, but you'll keep your zipper firmly locked up ...
