Comparison with a sporting event is a very good way to look at it.
Look at any hobby, going to gigs, playing golf, following a football or rugby team (& actually going to games), following motorsport (forgetting participating in amateur stuff), even drinking down the pub. Each of these become an addiction to lots of people and they cost a lot of money, sure, they may be socially accepted pastimes for blokes that you don't need to keep under wraps, but what do people take away with them, other than the experience.
I got invited to a Champions League game at Chelsea in March 2016, comp'd ticket, but I would have to sort out travel from the west country, accommodation on match day, meals and other shite. So easy £500, to watch 22-men run about kicking a ball for 1:30.
Fuck that, I arranged a 2-hr duo with 2 smoking hot ladies, had a blast, which I can remember vividly.
If you know any Chelsea fans, ask them who scored last March at Stamford Bridge against PSG, if they can remember one of the two names, then ask them about the goal.
I can still recall having 2 smoking hot women in only high heels, kneeling in front of me, all of us in front of a full length mirror, them each taking turns sucking my cock.
Like I say, my philosophy is that when you look back on life, it is simply a collection of experiences and I want to have a great 'highlights reel'.
