Been in the news that early next year, chemists will sell it over the counter.
Case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Certain chemists are already doing it as well as the likes of Dr Fox online
Wonder if it only applies to Viagra or the generic versions as well, and wonder if the price will drop.

There is a thread on the main forum where the price is mentioned.

Price might actually drop with all of the competition, bet tesco`s are looking into it

a lot of gyms sell it under the counter £10 for 10 pills -  been buying it for a while, and always poke someones eye out when ive had one.

Think last batch I got at Asda  was £11 for 4 100mg pills. I assume current prices include a prescription charge though so once it goes "over the counter" maybe it could drop to £1 per pill? But, you wil still have to have a chat with a pharmacist so they could whack a "consultation fee" into the price and keep prices more or less the same. I suppose overall it should make them a tad cheaper and much easier to get hold of.

You should all go to your GP for a prescription on the NHS. £8 odd for that. I get 8x100mg tabs in each script. There’s no difference between sildenafil and viagra.

A lot of GPs can't / wont raise scripts for erection aids, or else strictly limit the quantity supplied. It depends on the policy of the local Clinical Commisiong Group, some of which have made major cuts in what they'll fund.
But as sildenafil is going OTC you can assume that all scripts for it will soon be refused

I believe they are banned from doing that as part of their NHS contracts

When I asked my GP he said I could get Callis which is what I enquired about but would be a private prescription rather than NHS prescription
so 28 tablets was like £96

I've been using Lloyd's pharmacy where you get approved by a doctor online then collect in store.
I've been getting the branded Viagra too.

Thanks to this thread I will try the generic stuff next and try Dr Fox for delivery.

Cheers

sildenafil  is the chemical name
viagra is just a trade name
just like bottled water, H2O is the chemical name, perrier, evian etc  is a brand name, its exactly the same

I've used Lloyds for sildenafil. Cheaper and does what I expected.

Looks like Pfizer's product only. In return Pfizer have agreed to train the pharmacists to dispense it. You're still going to need a health check / tests but the pharmacist will do it, not a doctor. It will make the stuff easier to buy, but I doubt if prices will drop

Cialis isn't on the NHS list of approved medicines, except for those with other medical complications. I think diabetes is one.
All down to cost

it sounds like Pfizer still want to sell Viagra at their inflated prices ? when its much cheaper as sildenafil ?

Quite a shrewd act by them. GPs won't write scripts for Sildendafil when it can be purchased OTC so easily, but Pfizer have locked the pharmacies into a monopoly. Don't expect any price cuts. Buying online is probably going to remain the cheapest option, but then many users may prefer generic cialis anyway - which won't be going OTC any time soon

you can expect that to go out the window when the new rules kick in

Are you speaking from a position of knowledge or are you just being cynical? GPs can still prescribe many drugs that are available cheaper over the counter. Medicines for children are routinely put on prescription (free) where an adult would be advised it's cheaper to get OTC.  I couldn't see sildenafil being any different. Apparently it costs just over £1 for a pack of 4, so it's not as if they're losing money on it.

If a GP Practice, or a Clinical Commissioning Group can cut money from their spend by not prescribing drugs which are available OTC then they will do so. A lot of GPs no longer prescribe things like hay fever tablets, pain killers, skin creams.....
Theres a limited fixed amount of cash available each year for each person on a GP's list, and refusing to prescribe anything the customer can buy saves a lot from that budget. And yes, I do have knowledge. I spend a lot of time in GP surgeries as one of my jobs.
You can expect all those free scripts for OAPs and children to go. For instance, round here there's a total ban on supplying OTC painkillers on script, even to OAPs who need them for arthritis.
The NHS is bust, it really is
