How often do guys get themselves checked? Had my first punt in 3  months two weeks ago and am going in today for tests. I am sure it's all ok, no symptoms anyway but I suppose it's just the hypochondriac in me .

It's a matter of Common Sense and responsibility.

So every three months or so and four weeks after an 'incident' like a condom split. Then every month for about three months.

Offline darkvamp

Used to be an annual check up for me as only ever saw a regular. However looking at switching it up to every 6 months now.

Offline Cymro72

Once a year for me. Touch wood no problems  in 20+ years of punting.

Offline playpal69

Had a check around two  months back, all clear, but I'm going to get in there every six months.

A lot easier now they dropped the swab test...ouch

Offline mrdiamond77

Had my last check up a couple of months ago.  I will probably have my next one by the end of the Summer.

The length of time in-between doesn't matter.

You could go every 6 months but it wouldn't matter if you only punted once every 2 years.

The more often you punt, the more often you should go to the GUM.

In an ideal world every 3 or 4 punts I'd say which is my plan.

I've been punting for about 2 1/2 years and only got myself checked out twice. I was only seeing one escort over that time but recently am seeing a lot more escorts so probably a lot more checks to it is a very low risk OWO but better safe than sorry

From NHS

Depending on which STIs you’re tested for, tests may include:
an examination of your genitals, anus, mouth and skin
giving a urine sample
having a blood sample taken
a swab from your urethra (the tube through which you pass urine) for both men and women
a swab from your throat or rectum
for women, a swab from your vagina or cervix (lower part of the womb)
an internal examination for women

Offline playpal69

Exactly what I said, last test I was told only blood and urine.

That stick in your jap's eye was not pleasant, so who was I to argue.

I have seen it somewhere that swab tests only duplicate the others anyway.

Offline dumbo25

My last test 2 months ago,the standard test i had was for blood and urine. Thats for the common peace of mind stuff like HIV, syphilis and Hep.

I know if you're an escort they still swab the uretha, yes cotton bud up the japs eye never did it for me either.
The thing I struggle with is you get to the clinic and the prospective customers are mostly under 30. Mind you I guess they don't know why you are there either. Its something we have to do to enjoy the hobby. :hi:

I think most of the older guys are gay. I pass the time playing guess gay or punter. Also surprises me how many young women seem to attend in pairs.

Offline Dan Dastardly

Anyone had problems with the occasional wart that comes back after treatment?

Offline licky

If you have symptoms, you will probably have that painful swab up the japs eye.
They immediately put the swab under a microscope, so they can begin treatment straight away if necessary, the blood and urine samples they send away, so takes time to analyse.

Offline wonky

If the lasses in Newport were cuter I'd go more often..... or if they didn't have a beard!

I don't have time to go to the clinic often, so use online tests. It costs a little bit of money, but the convenience and time saving is more than worth it to me.

Just came across this and thinking of giving it a whirl.
Only concern is if the mrs cracks it open by accident :scare:

Why take the chance - go to the GUM clinic. They see all sections of society. Would never do it by post myself. :hi:

Some people are not able to get to the clinic. These kits are a very good alternative.

I don't hv symptoms and I never screened for stds. Like all the responsible punters here I would like to be screened and tested.
What's the difference between visiting a private clinic and NHS clinic ? Is it only the time taken to get the appointment ?
I am not a UK citizen so I don't have much knowledge .

Judging by the positive comments on this thread, must people are happy with visiting a GUM clinic?

The last time that I had an 'emergency' they make me feel like a naughty schoolboy. Ever since that experience I've been reticent to return for a check-up.

Got to look after your heath mate. You owe it to yourself and the WGs you visit. I too always feel awkward when I visit- and I'm upfront when I tell them who I see. Never had any trouble with the staff..........indeed they have all been excellent and I compliment them on their proffessionalism and the necessity of what they do for our society. I must have been 10 times in total. Cant take a chance with your health, :hi:

I have used the Lloyds pharmacy online system many times.. All the way to hiv checks.. Very quick.. And discreet

Some are better (less judgemental) than others. Don't know where you are but the one on Newport is fairly laid back.

Some at least (possibly all) have walk in sessions. I doubt if they would turn you away for being a non-UK citizen.

Never had that experience, I've always found the staff very 'neutral' and just businesslike, probably because that is away of making an innocent remark that gets taken the wrong way.

In the waiting rooms it feels like a social club at times, you can play private games like 'Spot The Hooker!'

I had been on holiday to Thailand, where I had a split condom. Whilst over there, I thought that I did the right thing and went to the local hospital and got put on a course of antibiotics and PEP treatment (now that is a viscous course of treatment), so thought that I would visit the GUM clinic for a check-up. The Doctor was a right judgemental c*nt. Where did you have unprotected sex? Thailand [frown] Was the sex with a regular sexual partner? No [bigger frown] Are you still in contact with her? No [even bigger frown] Are you able to make contact with her? No [Look of contempt]

My local GUM clinic closed a while ago, so all the sexual health stuff is done via the GP surgery now. I struggle to find time to go puntering at the moment, let alone having regular checks :-(

You can be more anonymous at GUM Clinic - First name (made up if you want - but remember it!) plus wide post code area is sufficient e.g. CF42. I think the latter is for recharging purposes.

Newport one is walk in. The more mature nurses seem to be best - seen it all before.

Yes . After some investigation I went for walk-in session. Did not face any issue for being non uk citizen. Staff was very friendly. They took urine and blood sample . They said they would not do specific tests like herpes, etc unless they found symptoms. So I guess if we want to get everything tested even we don't find symptoms then visit private clinic , maybe.

Singleton Hospital Swansea, has a drop in service, it opens at 8:00 and at that time is not busy,
I have found the staff non-judgemental, and relaxed.

It's next to the University Campus, so can get busy,

Interesting - have they changed their system from phone up and they'll text you a time? (which wouldn't work for me)

Just resurrecting this rather than starting a new topic to mention that at my recent routine visit to the Cordell clinic at Newport, there was a male student nurse. Maybe just me, but I found this slightly inhibiting. As far as I recall, all the nurses I have seen there, including students, have been female. They always ask if you mind a student sitting in, if they want one to, and I have always said OK. The student being male was a bit unexpected.

Nobody did anything wrong or out of place, it just threw me a bit and I felt a bit inhibited about saying I see prostitutes sorry, sex workers! They should have it on my record anyway but someone new might not disclose this. Trying to rationalise why I felt a little uncomfortable, all I can come up with is that I thought a young male might be more judgmental about it.

Any thoughts/relevant experiences?

You were scared he was gay

Couldn't care less if he was gay. Oddly enough though, if he had acted overtly gay (I suppose "camp" is the word) i think I would have felt less inhibited somehow. Kind of un-threatening I suppose (not that I've ever had any Bi inclinations).

NB I don't mean to imply any criticism of the male student, as I said he did nothing wrong.
