I think the answer is not at all accurate.  For instance this girl is definitely working in Manchester today, but her AW profile says Latvia, and she is a Leeds based British girl.

AW need to sort this out as it is giving out false info about girls which may influence whether punters book them.  (As if the girls don't give enough false info about themselves already)

I read somewhere it's sometimes to do with network providers if the girls are accessing via mobile phones or dongles, maybe Adam knows more.

I saw one on AW in Ireland yesterday accessing from South Africa and then in the text it was clear that she was there on vacation and the profile gave the date she would be back. So it could be innocent but not all of the ladies think to place a note on the profile.

But indeed sometimes it is a scam.

A few weeks back I was in hospital (hence I did not post on here) but as I used a dongle on AW it says I was accessing from Latvia which I definitely was not even though one client I cancelled emailed me to have a go that I was lying about being in hospital as it was obvious I had gone on Holiday (to Latvia, who goes there for a holiday).  Not much I could do as I was using my Iphone as a tether for my laptop but I did keep my name bracelet so I could prove I was not lying as well as the letter they give when they discharged me which I then duly showed him and got a rather large apology.

It is a bit of a nightmare when that happens though as we get classed as lying and we don't always have the proof we are not so it does need sorting out

as mnetioned it could be your network provider is causing this if accessing b phone, i tried to use "tvcatchup" on my phone and it says im not in uk so cant watch tv... err i am but its my stupid levara mobile sim card (lots of data and cheap) thats the issue as it works fine on my 02 sim...

The only way they can tell where you're accessing from is by looking at who the IP address range your connection is on comes from. This is often wrong for mobile devices as they get routed through proxies in data centres or similar places, so can't be relied upon. IP geolocation can be useful, but it certainly isn't foolproof.

Although not such an extreme example, my IP address almost always shows me as being in London, whereas I'm convinced I'm actually currently in Bath. In fact, if I look up, I can see Pulteney bridge!

I was exchanging messages about a booking with a lady via my phone last week.  When I used my laptop, I discovered that she was accessing from Barbados (apparently), so I stopped communicating.  A couple of days later, she contacted me saying that she had just returned from holiday and would be able to see me the following day!  I was gutted that I had booked an alternative as she really looked great!!  Maybe next time!

it's all down to where your broadband or mobile operator has routed your IP address's point of presence, with mobile devices it is somewhat of a universal joke but Broadband is a little more reliable. I use several mobile banking sites and find that when in London they insist that I am not in the UK, rather annoying.

I agree it needs sorting out as when i see it on a WGs profile it does put me off bothering with them often.

I had a similar problem with the Lottery on my EE phone - I can only assume that as this is Deutche Telekom the servers or whatever are in Germany.

Yes, and no. Some of the IP->Location databases have improved. OTOH a lot more people are using VPNs.

If your phone provider censors adult and gambling sites you can often get round it by running a VPN app. These often route through foreign countries.
