May I ask how old he was. Reason being is that if I were a 30 year old I wouldn't be able to come to terms with this scenario. However 25 years on this wouldn't be an issue to my- older and wiser.
However if you moved in together would that not change the dynamics a bit as that's a statement of I really want to be with you long term?

Seen a couple on dating sites.   The best one I ever came across was last year and moving house.   bought  via purple bricks (Don't bother !!)    told the lady will drop the keys round  when you get to your new home.   she called  two days b4 move  name of jo.         thought  lets google her number
for some reason   not only was she the "local" estate agent  but  same number  was jojo of sussex a WG    was hard to keep a straight face when she  turned up   but had to as my wife was there.

I know one WG very well. I don't punt with her any more but we are Mates. She had 2 ex punter bfs over a 5 year period but they didn't work out. So she decided to go onto Match.com to get a civvie bf. She was still working 5 days a week. So she met up with one guy in his late 20s and they really clicked, after a while she had to tell him what her job was and he was not a punter and never had been ( they do exist ). That was a very hard thing to do as she did not want to lose him. They are still together 6 years later. It helped I am sure, that he had a crap job and no money.
