Apparently ChromeOS has been doing big numbers this past year thanks to schools being shut.
You could get a Chromebook if you must have another device with it's own storage and processing.
I'd check first that any programs you use are compatible with Chrome before doing that,I quite fancied a touch screen Chromebook to use in a room.
Bought it and it wasn't compatible with the only program I wanted to run on it,nice laptop though.
As I was reliant on computers when I worked I'd say the hardware is most important aspect.
I've no problems with Windows10 but I use Firefox and I only update when I want to,why do you want to use Chrome?
It's definately not worth repairing a laptop or notebook you can buy some great refurb laptops/books for next to nothing.
