I've had I think 3 or 4 punts in the past year. I've also got a couple lined up in the next few weeks.
I'm completely healthy, fit, in my twenties, live alone, work from home, have drastically limited my social contact, wear a mask when out in public, willing to isolate if I get symptoms / the notification on the NHS app etc.
I also think there are very, very few people in the country who can truly say they have complied with every order given to them in the past 12 months and have not knowingly broken a single rule, so there's a lot of hypocrites around (not calling out anyone in particular, I've only skimmed this thread). I'm perfectly willing to accept that I'm a hypocrite too.
I take personal responsibility for my actions. I get the reasons for the lockdown and the government advice, I don't dispute it and would advise others to follow it (I know I'm a hypocrite), but I'll take some calculated risks myself and live my own life - as we all do.
If I was older, had health conditions, or would be unable t limit my contact at work / at home, then that would be another matter entirely.
I view it like speeding. Every road has speed limits and almost everyone breaks those speed limits to varying degrees, putting both themselves and others at risk. Some people might do 100mph in a 30 zone, and others might go 35mph. The driving conditions also vary according to the weather, time of day, vehicle etc. Some people might have their family in the car with them, too. Point being we all take risks to varying degrees but as long as you're an intelligent human being and can make rational decisions and know the risks, then some flexibility has to be considered. But none of that negates the need for speed limits! It's very difficult for the government to allow for things like this, which is why the lockdown rules are so blunt and broad across society.
Anyway, hopefully, we're on the backstretch and the end is in sight. To those who are not punting at the moment - stay safe and to better times ahead.
I shall report back on my punts in due course!
PEACE
