Author Topic: Current situation... anyone punting?  (Read 5003 times)

Definitely wouldnt during this lockdown when the number of deaths is the highest its been with the second strain far easier to catch.

On top of that there is little choice and the further you travel the more chance of being stopped & fined.

I personally wouldn’t have any issue punting right now.

I don’t think covid poses me a huge risk.

well there is a nice selfish attitude

Offline holeymoley

In Manchester covid infections are about 0.5 per 100 people. Quite small odds. We're heading for nearly a year of lockdowns. I just couldn't go that long without human contact.

I've been told to shield, but I won't. I believe in fate.

I agree, having had to go in hospitals for scans and operations ( Consultants admitted hospitals were the most dangerous places to be (! ) And visits to health centre for procedures, I’m more worried about the things in my body killing me so I’m cool about Covid. At my age I feel my life is being stolen from me. Unlikely I will take the vaccine ( always taken the ones in the past so I’m not an antivaxxer ) but in January within 30 seconds I stopped breathing, when your BP is 66/39 you don’t feel good trust me. Ended up in A & E on a drip, oxygen, and multiple ECG’s  so I’ll take my chances so be it.

Btw forgot to mention it was shingles vaccine that caused anaphylaxis.

I have been visiting Thai Massage places whilst they have been open.

Right now, they are shut but some are working from there home.

I would not punt right now.

up to you though, not here to judge.

First post so guess this thread is as good as any, ive still been doing a few but only with regular WG's that are local. Not risking any new temptations or travelling out of my local area.
I think the main consideration in this has to be if you trust the WG to be honest about any symptoms etc. Enough risk involved with any punt let alone a new one in a pandemic...

Offline Blue1878

From what I can see most massage places are closed so likely to wait until places open again

And what about the asymptomatic escorts ?   :dash: :dash: :dash:

This is what so many seem to be either unaware of or don’t care about. Even if you have no symptoms yourself you can still transmit the virus to others and it won’t just be one or two.

Which is why I mentioned conscience in my first reply on the thread.

I still say that first sentence in your first reply is the only thing that matters for this whole discussion.

You just need to consider that a working girl may have seen , say, for instance 6 of those people each day for the last few days.
Dramatically reduces your odds.

Personally no, basically I’m diabetic so really not a good idea for me, but also I am close to the medical profession and witness the hell they are going through currently which has really opened my eyes to the horrendous situation we are currently in, far far worse than lockdown one. The new variant is quite a nightmare!

I haven't punted since last February and I was a once a week punter. It's been tough but I am high risk and even though the desire to punt lately has been stronger I wouldn't risk it for the simple fact I would be making a mockery of the lifestyle changes my family have made just so I am safe plus obviously I don't want to die! I nearly punted back in the summer when infection rates were lower but even then I didn't think it was safe. Brings a whole new meaning to the expression dying for a shag.

I agree, you do sound like a depressing fucker  :scare: but seriously I think you are right, life as we knew it probably will never be the same again. I believe recommendations on wearing face masks for travel etc will become the norm, sanitising hands etc on entry into shops and all the protocols that exist today will probably stay for a long time .. its a culture change. I personally don't miss stepping onto a packed train and some inconsiderate fucker coughing and spluttering all over the place on the way to work ..

This for sure :thumbsul:

Though stepping into a warm packed bus after 10 minutes at a freezing bus stop was definitely one of my guilty pleasures!!

Pandemic punts feel a bit like Russian Roulette now, so I'll wait until I have a couple of doses of Pfizer's finest in my arm before I return with a vengeance.

Offline wibbles

I've had I think 3 or 4 punts in the past year. I've also got a couple lined up in the next few weeks.

I'm completely healthy, fit, in my twenties, live alone, work from home, have drastically limited my social contact, wear a mask when out in public, willing to isolate if I get symptoms / the notification on the NHS app etc.

I also think there are very, very few people in the country who can truly say they have complied with every order given to them in the past 12 months and have not knowingly broken a single rule, so there's a lot of hypocrites around (not calling out anyone in particular, I've only skimmed this thread). I'm perfectly willing to accept that I'm a hypocrite too.

I take personal responsibility for my actions. I get the reasons for the lockdown and the government advice, I don't dispute it and would advise others to follow it (I know I'm a hypocrite), but I'll take some calculated risks myself and live my own life - as we all do.

If I was older, had health conditions, or would be unable t limit my contact at work / at home, then that would be another matter entirely.

I view it like speeding. Every road has speed limits and almost everyone breaks those speed limits to varying degrees, putting both themselves and others at risk. Some people might do 100mph in a 30 zone, and others might go 35mph. The driving conditions also vary according to the weather, time of day, vehicle etc. Some people might have their family in the car with them, too. Point being we all take risks to varying degrees but as long as you're an intelligent human being and can make rational decisions and know the risks, then some flexibility has to be considered. But none of that negates the need for speed limits! It's very difficult for the government to allow for things like this, which is why the lockdown rules are so blunt and broad across society.

Anyway, hopefully, we're on the backstretch and the end is in sight. To those who are not punting at the moment - stay safe and to better times ahead.

I shall report back on my punts in due course!

PEACE

Despite punting last year a fair bit, I didn’t when any of the National lockdowns were in place (not that that makes a huge difference), to be truthful I regret the decision in hindsight. However, given the latest lockdown I won’t be punting at all. I will wait until things have been lifted, and it becomes more safe from a health point of view. My reasoning is I am putting myself at risk as well as others. It is difficult, but it’s necessary. It’s good to see a lot punters are of the same opinion.

Offline Hurley

No I’ve only punted once since last February because of personal circumstances, I’ve saved a fucking fortune.

For me, for now.... I'm out of the game.

I've said it already, I'll not criticise any of you lads for punting, but I'm abstaining until it's safer.

Roll on vaccine. I really do miss the rush of the walk to knock on that door!

That is without doubt, the biggest rush for me too.

I really do miss the rush of the walk to knock on that door!

The sad thing for me is that I've been punting for so long that I seldom get that rush anymore. Maybe a break from punting is actually what I need (and for Sandy's to reopen too ;)).

Been pretty good myself, sticking to the rules et all. But you know, when you get the horn, you cant think of anything else.

Today was one of those days. Been feeling pretty shitty with a bad back, thought I'd go for a rub and tug, went through the searches and was ready to phone and book one. Had to literally throw my punting phone in the cupboard to stop myself going through with it.

Covid is deadly , seen too many people succumb to it. Didnt fancy becoming a statistic myself

Admirable restraint  :drinks:

It can be deadly, and even if it doesn't kill you it might kill someone who came into contact with you.

Wouldn't it be interesting if every death could be genetically linked back down the chain of infection? It would concentrate the mind somewhat when making these type of decisions.
