I’m toying with visiting the above SP... recently sprung up in Liverpool... it’ll be my first of 2021!  Trying to decide if it’s wise... got an itch to scratch, plush conscious I not contributed much of late... and I’m sorely tempted- but the Covid thing is in the back of my mind!   What are other people’s thoughts?

My thoughts are it’s up to you and your conscience.

Personally I think it’s mad to even consider it in the current climate, not to mention selfish and currently completely illegal.

But each to their own.

Been illegal since 23 March last year unless masks were being worn, parlours all opened mid July, don`t think that was legal either.

Is it the same WG Gina Thai from a couple.of years ago ? The profile and pics look familiar. She was well reviewed.

Regards meeting her, depends upon your age, health, if you have family you live with who are at risk.  Balance it up.

At that time though it was legal to at least to travel to these places. Now you could get stopped by the police and if your excuse for being out driving isn't what they deem as necessary travel you could be fined.

Thank you for the wisdom gents!   I think it would be probably sensible to leave it for now!  Though I’m not too much in the at-risk group, I’ve gotta be real, getting my collar felt (going the colour of boiled shite) and risking a dose for what could be a rather mediocre meet... certainly a TOFFT one!

Amazing how ones mind can move to ones dick- and one loses all sense of anything else!  Appreciate the advice all!  Gotta be sensible and responsible at times!  Thanks for helping keep it real!!

I don’t think covid poses me a huge risk.

I will not be punting until I feel it is safe and legal to do so. Apart from the health risks being stopped by the police and charged could lead to a life changing scenario.

I'm looking forward to punting once more but not until it's safe to do so.The risks to health and the moral dimension to punting during this coronavirus crisis outweighs any pleasure obtained from a good punt.

Offline marc_hotsteppa

too risky until spring at least maybe even summer before i'd consider punting again.

His village were missing him too much

Good to read the majority here are of the same, thinking and considerate view.

No way will I go out at the moment, or until it's safe for everyone to do so.

Why?
I personally know two people who've died from Covid, one in her 40s, one in his early 50s. Another one who used to be very fit and healthy who was infected eight months ago and can no longer spend more than 10 minutes in the garden before he's utterly exhausted - he's 42. And a 30 year old guy who spent four days feeling like a car was parked on his chest. Those are four people I know, all previously fit and healthy, and relatively young, and my social circle is small. Two are dead. One looks like he's fucked for the rest of his life. All of these people were careful, but not careful enough.

Thanks, but if a few selfish folk want to make themselves willing victims of Darwinian selection, I'm happy to let their stupid and arrogant behaviour result in them perishing and not passing on their genes. Sadly, they will kill others either directly, or indirectly through filling hospital beds, who are trying their utmost to keep safe. That alone is what I object to. It's not like we've not been here before multiple times in our history. Thankfully, each time a few more of the name callers and vain attention seekers are removed from our gene pool. At that point they also stop endangering the rest of us.

Ignore them, don't respond to them, and leave them, the tiny but overly vocal minority, to extinguish themselves voluntarily.

We've shifted from survival of the physically fittest to survival of the mentally fittest. They've just not caught up yet.
That's how nature works, but some people *think* they know better.

Natural selection cannot be beaten.
It's bigger than any one of us, never mind how gobby, arrogant, immortal or self important we think we are.

Best to respect it.

A good response. I had COVID in September, I lost my sense of taste and smell, I was tried for 2 days. I’m nearly 50.

It’s clearly effects people differently.

plush conscious I not contributed much of late...

I can't imagine any sensible person would hold that against you or anyone in the current context.

I'm hoping it will be possible to get back into the saddle again at some point this year, following a completely "dry" 2020, but it seems a long way off yet.

Offline Roscoe111

Some good advice, succinctly put!  Having ones collar felt or playing Russian Roulette with a covid infection could both have life changing outcomes in a really bad way!
I was kind of okay before this new strain came out... numbers have skyrocketed and reading about people younger than me above is sobering... so sober it is for now!
Gotta say I’m looking forward to the resumption once it’s safe!

I think there could be a lot of village up and down the country that may have lost their idiot to Covid, which would be a shame cos I have a lot in common with mine, and he’s a good laugh often at his own expense.
However I don’t envy those that live in larger towns and cities which seem to breed them.

Don’t want to put a downer on this but can anyone see an end to this. The vaccine that say only lasts 5/6 months. They won’t have inoculated the whole country by then to start again??! I reckon by March lockdown will ease up. We are in an almost full proper lockdown which will have lasted 8 weeks so fingers cross it makes a big difference

I agree. And with the endless potential of ‘new strains’ I can’t see us ever living without some sort of restrictions. We’ve had a second strain that caused a second lockdown and we’re now on strain No.3 that’s resulted in tighter travel restrictions.  What happens when strain 4 arrives and strain 5 etc.. like I said, it’s potentially endless

I agree, you do sound like a depressing fucker  :scare: but seriously I think you are right, life as we knew it probably will never be the same again. I believe recommendations on wearing face masks for travel etc will become the norm, sanitising hands etc on entry into shops and all the protocols that exist today will probably stay for a long time .. its a culture change. I personally don't miss stepping onto a packed train and some inconsiderate fucker coughing and spluttering all over the place on the way to work ..

Offline bdyno

The thing with this topic is we can talk as much as we like, present as many facts for & against as we like, but the only correct answer was the first sentence of the first reply:
My thoughts are it’s up to you and your conscience.

Back when I was at school a teacher once told me you have the right to do anything you want, so long as you're prepared to face the consequences.  That remains true today.

I think it won’t be that bad in a few years time, with major benefits coming not long after. We’ve developed entirely innovative vaccines incredibly quickly and that process will only get quicker to handle new strains. The vaccines can likely be tweaked so they’ll end up lasting longer and be more effective at different strains. But more importantly the research and work that’s resulted in the vaccines has many other benefits - folding protein research promises new treatments for altzeimers for example. A culture change to work from home more, making rush hours less severe and getting a better work life balance.

But god, I’m dying for a shag right now :-)

When Liverpool went down to tier 2 and I found myself with a couple of hours to spare after working close to a well known punting venue have to admit I was very tempted but managed to give my head a wobble when I thought about the potential consequences.

Was thinking about maybe something during the summer, but held back. Was ill pre Covid for quite a while, got fit, but it wasn't worth a chance.

Took all the precautions from Feb onwards, then caught it via my son via his school in November.

Worst thing I've had. Couldn't breathe from about day 6 and felt like crap - much much worse than flu. It's now 9 weeks later and I'm still getting symptoms: Fatigue, rashes, shortness of breath, brain fog, chest pains...Still can't function anywhere near pre covid levels. 10 minute walk knocks me back.

So, NO NO, it's just not worth it!

And, even if you do think it's worth it, why would you catch it and then potentially spread it to someone else who is doing the right thing?

Offline Edwin D

It is a you and your conscience thing. Keep yourself safe, minimise risk as much as possible and let everybody else do what they're doing.

I've been tempted myself, not so much for your usual punt but a more professional massage place where there's temperature checks, proper cleaning and your contact details taken but I've been lucky it usually strikes me late in the evening when those types of venue are shut.

Offline Donnie69

I'm punting with a regular at home.
If the police stop her on route to me she is my carer and in a bubble, so entirely legal.

The risk is worth it for me.

Looks like the covid jab is going to be like a flu jab every year for quite a few years?

It may not be that bad: if vaccination can get the number of people infected down a lot, then there's less opportunity for the virus to mutate so new strains will become less common. But it may well mean a jab every year as @george_r suggested I guess, and travel restrictions to countries who have outbreaks.

Offline Donnie69

In Manchester covid infections are about 0.5 per 100 people. Quite small odds. We're heading for nearly a year of lockdowns. I just couldn't go that long without human contact.

I've been told to shield, but I won't. I believe in fate.

Have had massages and hj after initial lockdown and been fine, temp checks and massuse worn mask throughout it all which was fine.
