We keep going around and around on this but it is pretty simple - consider using a punting phone taking into account your personal circumstances!

I was a complete mug when I started punting, I used a phone provided by work and the number could easily be tracked to not only me but my job - it would have got anyone straight to my firm's website.  I would have been massively exposed to blackmail on a number of fronts.  Now I could say that I punted like that for years and never actually had a problem, which is true.  However to recommend that to others on that basis would be mad.

I got a punting phone within a week of discovering UKP  :hi: :hi:

I don't recommend anyone do anything, what you do is your business. I said this on the matter.

I appreciate that for others that may be their way of security but I do get sick of being told that I'm some sort of mug because I use my own phone. For me punting is not some sort of super clandestine operation.

As for using your work phone for punting that is plain fucking stupid.

I was not having a go - I said it was up to people depending on their personal circumstances, which I think is what you were saying.

Given I was taking the micky out of myself on the work phone point and I called myself a mug for doing it not sure why you felt the need to call me fucking stupid!!

Need 2 tabs ideally and copy and paste where it should be.

I didn't actually call you fucking stupid but the act of using your phone for work as fucking stupid.

But point taken and I apologise for any offence.

i'm single and used to not worry about it - just used my personal phone.

After reading some stories on here about punters getting hassled etc, I thought why risk it. Any hassles, just chuck the SIM and start again.

It makes things simpler and I didn't really feel comfortable about having my mum and escorts on the same phone!  :scare:

I use my old phone as a punting phone and the cost is next to nothing because I don't go in for a bundle, just use Tesco top-up which does not expire. £10 top-up lasts me months.

That's exactly it. Use and old phone you have laying about and it's very quick to just burn and start again

HOWEVER, just watch out for SMART PUNTING PHONES, ensure phone is first wiped and you login to the phone (if you must) using another email addy.

I have a smart punting phone, but don't login to it and I just download WhatsApp free from their website. Bypassing Google Play or whatever

I don't use email to log in or Whats App, just a normal password on keypad, so hopefully am okay?

Yeah of course. WhatsApp for me saves me money as data is cheaper than sms messages. Also it's all encrypted these days so no fucker can read what's in the messages!

My ancient nokia does the job as a punting phone but is a complete pain in the neck when you need to reply to texts urgently as the predictive text is highly limited and bloody dangerous to try and use whilst driving .. I know I know...
Also the inability to quickly link the postcode to a map or satnav reference is a pain.
Time to upgrade the sim and move to one of my older wiped iphone methinks..
As I tend not to resell them no suspicions should be aroused.

Keep your old smartphones chaps, they come in handy!

Having a second phone makes perfect sense.

But if you have to answer to someone else as to WHY you have a second phone, perhaps you shouldn't be doing this?

"and bloody dangerous to try and use whilst driving .. I know I know..."   So WTF do it ? You may end up killing someone just to get your end away ! As for hiding that from the OH good luck !

Have a look at this when logged into google - don't even need your phone
https://www.google.com/maps/timeline

I found that despite using my punting phone for all WG calls
I could see ALL my car journeys including my punts (and dates/times)

My main phone is always with me in the car, silently reporting location

Note you can turn this off in your google account, and delete specific days after the event.

I've got a separate SIM - works well, as less likely to be found than another phone and easier to keep on me. Of course, you then need your personal phone to be easy to swap SIM cards in and out of (ie not an iPhone). I think using a different number just keeps it simple for me....

i phones are a bit lethal, even with a second sim. In my case, I have an ipad, which is linked to my main phone and sim, through i Cloud. Swop sims and the ipad starts asking all kinds of questions eg do you want to link this number for FaceTime blah blah.,,

OH uses the ipad, guess the rest..

Some may say a solution is to turn off all mobile data, wi fi, in fact anything that can cause the iPhone/ipad to link. Going into Starbucks nearly had me once, as the second sim connected to the wi fi. When I got home, there were the usual questions on the ipad regarding the " new user phone number "  Got away with it, before the OH was home..

My advice, get a very cheap non smartphone and hide it, or have an excuse, as detailed in the many threads here..

ps as an aside, in my stupid pre- UKP days, I used my own iPhone.  Last week, a WG connects with me on Linked In, four years after last seeing her!   Running some new make up business etc. Email in my Inbox, suggesting we connect, also invite on Linked In. Which is on the ipad too.

I was away for a week on business, ipad at home with the OH. Got away with it again, didn't clock it...Linked In now deleted from the ipad..

A fucking risky game this punting lark, just when you think you've covered all bases :scare:

Are you suggesting anyone with an OH should not be punting?  well that would make the WGs a lot easier to book....

Is that a moral position you are taking? If so myself and a few others on here might have a few words to say to you.

Bought a cheap dual sim phone from eBay. Sim 1 payg for emergencies when out doing my other hobbies, sim 2 payg for punting. Both with £10 loaded up.
Email, usernames and passwords all totally random.
Phone locked with a strong password.
Each sim is sim locked with a different code.
All browsing done using incognito mode.
File with fav numbers saved deep in the OS and again named as xyz (password protected)

Some will think I am paranoid, but I feel it's worth the effort
