Author Topic: "awork.co.uk" showing on bank statement  (Read 12508 times)

Hi all!

I stupidly paid for some adultwork.com credits via the bank card option. Obviously not the smartest thing to if you want to be discrete - however didn't know there would be a big blatant transaction on my statement at the time.

The transaction now shows on my bank statement as "awork.co.uk" - simple google search reveals what it is for.

I've just secured a mortgage on my first home and concerned as the bank and solicitors are asking for bank statements.

Will the bank/solicitor know, or question what "awork.co.uk" means? If someone recognises can they do anything about it?

Looking for people to put my mind at ease please :-(

Thanks

Offline ShyGuy.

Could they recognise it? Certainly. As you say, a quick Google search will tell them.

Will it make any difference to your application? Nope, not in the slightest.

I had a couple of awork entries on my statements when I got my mortgage a couple of years ago, it makes no difference. Actually, when I separately rang my credit card company about my credit card, I'm sure the lady I spoke to knew exactly what it was but so what? She didn't say anything.

Your solicitor shouldn't ever see the statements anyway, and your bank will only question if they think it's a regular payment as they'll want to know if it's an ongoing commitment.

As it isn't - even if they know what it is - they won't care in the slightest. I guess if you're using a broker they might well see it, but they probably see all kinds of crap on statements all the time. They're not there to judge either.

I know it's embarrassing mate, but don't worry about it, it won't make any difference.  :)

Probably if they notice it will think he has disposable income he can afford it if he is booking prossies.

The bank won't give a shit, unless you have a missus who likes reading your bank statement  I really wouldn't worry

Don't panic they don't search who you pay specifically they look at expenditure and calculate affordability. It makes no difference to them who you pay. If they stopped and searched every applicants misc spend they would never be done.  They may ask you if it's a continuous payment or one off, but that will be it.

You filled in an application outlining your creditors and regular monthly expenditure, it's likely going to be seen as a one off payment. If you failed to mention it and it appeared for months they may question you if it's a subscription.

Even if they did, they are not going to expose you. Confidentiality is between solicitor and client.

Go to bed, stop worrying over nothing.

Thanks for the input guys. It's apprenticed.

I only sent away £10, but what makes it worst is that I specifically transferred £5 twice from another account. So you see £5 in, £5 out to AdultWork, then £5 in, £5 out again. Plus there are not many transactions on the account in question so it's super easy to spot.

Feel much better now though...

The bank will only look at large amounts to check spending habits.  So unless you've spent a bundle you'll be fine.  Buy top-up vouchers in cash & achieve the same via your punting mobile

I don't think they would care.... hell you can always just say its porn. Surely noooo one will hold that against you!

Offline Malvolio

From their viewpoint it's just a one-off payment to a website and you must have plenty of those on your statements; they won't give it a second look.

Offline sigmund

They should be too busy to search small transactions so anyone at the mortgage company who see it and go, haha I know what he's doing is most likely going to want to avoid having to tell their boss how they knew.

Offline Cunning Punt

Yes, they've got other things to worry about.

However, it's a useful warning to punters who have partners/bosses who are going to see their statements. Personally, I am surprised adultwork is not more discreet and doesn't have an innocuous-sounding holding company to direct payments to, just like other firms involved in the adult industry or gentlemen's 'medication'.

They might check if you have had your account hacked & you are having money taken by fraud

It would only be an issue if it was as big as this

If you're embarassed about showing your statement with awork.co.uk on it, just put a bit of Tippex over it and then photocopy the statement and submit the copy.

I really cannot understand why AW don't put something a little more discrete  :unknown:

Not stupid at all, I have done it many times with no problems.    :hi: :hi: :hi:

You would have more of a problem if there were large entries to Victor Chandler or Ladbrokes.    :scare:

I have a private credit card with no printed statements that I use only for awork. I only use it occasionally and pay it off online punctually as a Visa payment so that is all that goes into the accounts and the payment is labelled as 'personal' so no questions, I could have bought shirts or chocolate.

I've been caught out by the missus with this. Thanks Adultwork!

Had to fess up and say i'd paid to see someones gallery. Was in the doghouse for that i can tell you.

Lesson to learn is get yourself a separate credit card (an easy one to get like Aqua or Capital One). Use that, switch to paperless statements and when it comes to paying the credit card off pay by cash in the bank with a slip. That way it wont show on your normal bank statement as a credit card bill.

I've had the same thing issue with William Hill online.

How recently did you get caught?I would be wary of her buying your story that you just bought some photos!Luckily we don't have a joint account and I am on paperless billing  :D

The people who work in banks know what all the secret codes are anyway (like billing for porn sites) and like to have a good laugh when they spot them.

I agree. Most women might swallow finding a payment to look at a bit of porn, but getting caught browsing a prostitutes website would raise the suspicions of even the most gullible woman to a level that would put me in a state of temporary/permanent retirement.

Err - maybe not.  If she starts digging & asking difficult questions then you'll have a touch time explaining where you were looking at the stuff.  Me thinks the punting would increase - once you've found out somewhere new to live  :scare:

And to add to that, you have the fear of an Ashley Madison style hack and blackmail attempt!

Can't stand how AW won't accept Paypal or can't just put a random code on your statement. Worrying re: partners but you've done nothing wrong or illegal so who cares what bank staff/mortgage staff see?

I don't think Paypal will work with AW for 'moral' reasons.
