Apologies if this is better suited to the Off Topic section, but I just stumbled across this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJRBx0JjM_M

I thought this was a very well reasoned and presented argument about a "grown-up" aproach to prostitution, and might be of interest to UKP brothers.

I'm hoping there is a very small chance that this type of message is getting through to the governement ministers responsible for policy.

Unfortunatly I think there is a zero chance of punters' opinions (however reasonable and evidence-based) being taken on board by the government...  :dash:

And before anyone asks, I don't know what her working name is and I don't have an AW link (I get the impression she might be out of my price range anyway)  :D

Yes - thankyou - the more this side of the story gets told the better. It is difficult to change perceptions, but 'drip drip' exposure to this kind of material does go some way towards countering the sensationalised stuff that arises from the tabloid worldview.

Makes a rational argument but still gives the impression of an industry of staff who go into the work as a last resort. Her argument seems to accept that sex work is morally flawed and it's all about protecting the poor people who end up in it. Most women I've paid to fuck seem immeasurably happier in their work than many women I know who do ordinary jobs or stay at home. It fucking boils my piss. Sex work should be treated exactly the same as any other line of work, just as she advocates but because that's the right thing to do and for no other reason.

That woman talks a load of sense.

What an amazing woman. Not only does she present an eloquent and reasoned argument, she destroys the stereotype that politicians have about prostitutes.

Not quite for me as I mentioned above, she still gives the impression that whores do it out of desperation, not having an alternative etc. I have met plenty who are clearly very happy with their career choice and I think she fails to represent that. You can't have it all though, better her message than the crass, reactionary, ill-informed, knee jerk bullshit that has plenty of willing spouters!

Completely agree, she may have entered into prostitution as she was desperate, but some of the girls I've met have been in steady but not particularly rewarding jobs with no money problems at all that simply decided 9-5 for the next 40 years was not for them, instead the could escort and make in a hour or 2 what they make in a week and they were happy with that.  I've seen a few very well off prossies with multiple properties that us punters are financing, I am ok with that but they are not doing this because they have to, they are doing it because they choose and will probably be retired before they hit 40, fair play to them.

No, she says that we're no different to anyone else. Some of us love our jobs, some of us hate our jobs and some of us have good and bad days. Did you actually watch the whole talk?

I sure did, the underlying impression for me was that she spoke to those people who see prostitutes as victims, for whom the law needed to be right in order to protect them from the decision they've made to become prossies. I think she could have bigged it up more and referenced the many people who go into it as a positive career choice. The way she spoke about the need to ensure prossies had the same rights at work as anyone else, was over defensive and over pandering to the moralists. If you swap the word prostitute for plumber each time she says it in that context, you'll possibly get a better idea of where I'm coming from.

Interesting viewpoint, just not what I took from it at all.

Good spot NK! Just eagle-eyes or have you seen her before?

Looks like I was right that she's out of my price range...I shudder to think what her un-discounted rates must be   :D

I'm quite surprised she has an AW profile, but it does give her position more credibility (in that she is a currently working SP - I know she says that in the video but now there is "proof").

I agree completely with points above that "sex work" is just another type of work and should be treated as such (in terms of protection for WGs and punters alike), but we've got a long way to go in wider societal attitudes and government policy / law before that happens.

I think the approach she takes in the video (to focus on the safety and security / stability benefits for WGs) will be more productive in the short term.

Part of me is hoping that Corbyn has a massive upswing in popularity, he at least seems open to an adult discussion of sex work.

Semi eidetic memory.

And yes, I find a 250 p/h prossie speaking on behalf of victimised sex workers quite ironic as well but she makes some good points about decriminalisation, which I'm more in favour of as I've always thought all legalisation will do is just push prices up.

That's a fair point mate. I guess my ideal of WGs telling the world that in the most part they chose the career because it's well paid, enjoyable and everyone should fucking chillax about it, is likely to polarise the debate, meaning a continued argument about the profession's right and wrongs. Best to get proper full decriminalisation in and rights just the same as any other employment/transaction first, regardless of how you get sign up. So if the feminazis, moralists et al buy into it because they think all prossies are poor victims, then who cares really!
