Very odd indeed. Transnistra is a disputed territory between Moldova and Ukraine which most countries do not recognise, and which is, by all accounts, completely lawless. I don't think anybody else recognises its currency: it's a bit like a woman in Truro expecting to be paid in Cornish Pounds.
