According to the Thames Valley police website a number of brothels were raided last night including 3 in MK with addresses the police have listed. All part of an operation called Sentinel apparently.

I hope this doesnt turn out to be bad news for MK punters or London HOD punters, HOD 2 didnt open today as announced i note although i am not saying there is a definite link between the raids and that.

Other brothels in Reading/Slough/Maidenhead and Newbury also raided as part of the same operation and their road addresses given.

Eeek And that would be just my luck!...

I did hear through the grape vine that the Euston HOD shut because of a venue issue

Was bound to happen in MK sooner or later :timeout
My heart bleeds for them

MK Helen has tweeted she was one of the three premises in MK raided and she says she was held overnight and bailed today and no longer working.

The article states repeatedly that the raids were about seizing assets under the POCA.  The focus seems to be on the fact that the houses were part of organized crime, although whether the locations were linked is not clear.  Interesting how massage parlours in some areas can be tolerated, with the police turning a blind eye  - for decades in some cases in Wiltshire and Bristol.

local old bill gets randy also, but then the top brass overrule the locals

The cops need that POCA cash for their upcoming Xmas parties

Bit harsh raiding these legitimate tax paying businesses I say

Apparently Nikkis in Basildon has also been raided although by a different force.

To be honest I have no sympathy for the people who operate brothels as they know exactly what they are getting into and the risks involved

But at the same time, I'm glad they do it.  :)

I hope they are ok. We are just different sides of the same coin.

Well I don't use brothels but I think the legislation on running them is draconian

I agree and brothels benefit many punters, as long as the WGs arent being forced but working in them of their own free will. Stupid law that i dont respect, i like punting in brothels.

Yes, trafficked girls being forced into prostitution is abhorrent. Thankfully, the places I frequent are above board.

They do provide us with a good service (in most cases) ------------ but yes, you are right, it is hard to have any sympathy for brothel owners when they come unstuck.  ;)

I am surprised that it has lasted so long, it operates from a residential block of flats, neighbours must have known what has been going on.  :unknown:

I believe the MK brothels work from residential blocks as well so maybe that's why they got busted

I know 2 girls working in the same premises is technically a brothel, but if we are talking about a more organised 'business' with several girls working a shift, then to me if you were using trafficked women, you would have to be pretty stupid to have such a large scale operation as whatever we might think of the police, they would have to be pretty stupid not to be aware of a 'larger' brothel in operation in their area.

I personally think licensing brothels and imposing 'red tape' on them such as regular health checks and inspections would be a better way of dealing with trafficking as by indicating that using these registered places means you don't have an excuse to use anyone who is trafficked. Plus it would take the social stigma away from it all making more punters who do come across the few trafficked women more likely to report them because they may feel less ashamed about their activities (in terms of what society thinks) and at the end of the day isn't an end to exploitation what both us and the dark side want?

No government would ever be brave enough to bring in such controversial legislation, if Ms Harman would have had her way all punting would have become illegal.

I bet all the Indies are celebrating, with less brothels available they should get more business.

Fully agree. The better sensible option is not the one that governments choose though. Legalising brothels would help Indies as well as I thought for a long time (including when I started punting) that prostitution in all forms was illegal and I suspect there are many more men out there who think the same.

Indies could advertise as a more intimate service than a brothel and with potentially a larger client base = more work, but then HMRC would become more interested in this new revenue stream  :D Even if brothels were legalised, there would always be a concession to the prudes limiting the number so it is unlikely that the actual number of brothels would increase too much, just suspect those already there in most towns and cities would become 'legit'
