I have no theory or experience or answers. But I wonder about the very high increases in the price of buying and of renting, and the shortage of public housing. How does this affect the availability of locations for punting? This is not only in London. I punted in a small city last week in an outlying grotty estate (review soon) and by some chance I have found a lady in the same estate for tomorrow. I wonder if my car will have wheels when I get back to it, or just how grotty is the interior of the flat.

Ladies or pimps have to pay high rents for their flats.

I think it's clearly affected some providers - for example LMP - I think the annual rental on their current venue is 6 figures. But it's a challenge for many other kinds of businesses that don't have such high margins yet somehow survive.

I think its a reason many WGs have pimps, they cant afford to rent a premises themselves at least for a while so agree to give a pimp a cut of their fees in exchange for a premises.

Some obvious brothels like HOD in London have had problems with landlords, HOD had to move sharpish a while back as they got conned thinking they were dealing with a landlord but in fact who they were dealing with was a sub-letter offering them the premises illegally who told them they were the landlord. When the actual landlord found out he turfed them out presumably not wanting to risk getting done. Like with many brothels if they do find a landlord willing to let them work from the premises as a brothel its for a premium over and above the normal rent to take into the account the risk of the police taking an interest.

Like anything in business whether it's tesco, to banking to punting....costs whether it's expenses, levies or taxes are rarely absorbed by the provider but passed on to customers

Planning is easier....you can line up the clients and book accordingly
Hotels are practically situated
The right ones offer anonimnity
The WG doesbt have to worry about rent or surprise events like the heating packing in, drains blocked or the kid next door knocking cos the ball has gone in the back garden
