If you read the whole thing carefully, what this story is based on a press release from public health authorities warning GPs that they MUST use combination therapy for Gonorrhea, because some are still using single agent therapy, which is ineffective and can lead to further resistance.
The advice is based on the same outbreak that was reported in Leeds a few months back. It's not a report of a new outbreak.
It's good for the punter to know this, because if you are unfortunate enough to get a dose, you are informed enough to make sure you get the right treatment (i.e. combination of two drugs). To be fair, I suspect most GUM clinics will give you the right treatment, it's GPs who are often clueless.
