Author Topic: Fit to punt - easier weight control  (Read 795 times)

One of the greatest sensual pleasures - apart from punting of course - is eating and drinking, and it's so easy to overindulge. When I'm in good shape I enjoy punting so much more, and WGs probably appreciate having a few stone less to contend with.

I was fascinated to read the following article on the Beeb website

Quote
The power of intermittent fasting

Scientists are uncovering evidence that short periods of fasting, if properly controlled, could achieve a number of health benefits, as well as potentially helping the overweight ...

[in] 5 weeks, I lost nearly a stone and my blood markers, like IGF-1, glucose and cholesterol, improved.

Horizon programme tonight [ 9 pm BBC 2 ] looks at this in detail.

This is something I do anyway - I often have days when instead of dinner I'll just have a salad. As breakfast is a round of toast and lunch equally light it probably equals intermittent fasting. It did bring my weight down, but I stopped doing it as I thought it was faddish and probably bad for me. Chuffed to bits to find the reverse may be true.

I reckon every six months we have a new report on how to not die, avoid cholesterol, healthy diets, etc. I love one of the the latest about eggs, the bad boys for cholesterol are now reckoned to be good for you  :dash:

Surely it's about doing things sensibly and in balance.

Sometimes I weigh a bit more and sometimes less. It simply depends on what activities I've been up to and if when I get into a biscuit fetish.

I'd love to be a health and diet researcher.  :sarcastic:

It seeems sugar is the real enemy. For years we have been told about fruit and veg, and most of us have embraced the fruit message big time, but it now seems that half a dozen tangerines, equals 8 teaspoons of sugar, plus fruit seems to trigger feeding frenzy etc. Anyway giving up sugar for a month or two, see if I get a better hard-on, and lose my stomach fat.
