Author Topic: Punting food. Best food in London question? Also where do you eat/dine beforehand  (Read 2065 times)

Offline pret-a-punter

I'm planning a trip to London and one thing I always forget to look up is decent Restaurants for punting food.

Usually I'm lazy and just get a Burger King, KFC or Pizza Hut as I am a totally lazy tourist and its filling.

But I think I'm missing out given that London is home to many Chef's, famous restaurants and world tastes I could be missing out on- like Curry, Thai, Lebanese, genuine Italian, Chinese etc.

So bit of a large question -where do you eat and if so can you recommend some good scoff in London?

I always punt on an empty stomach and avoid garlic/spicy the night before. I generally punt in the mornings as I like to think I'm the first of the day so get the joy of awaking the girls organ up!
Afterwards I need to eat eat and eat and hit anywhere I can find.

Good god no- I need my "pre-workout" meal and I need to be awake before getting down to business.

On a serious note usually 2 hours beforehand- a cappuccino and sausage roll from wild bean railway cafe does the trick  :hi:

I can't eat a lot before a punt - it saps my energy and desire, and the anticipation tends to suppress my appetite anyway. But afterwards I'm bloody ravenous and usually head for the nearest kebab shop, or other comfort food outlet.

LOL!

On a serious note- it just goes to show how powerful marketing is- and that looking for a restaurant you don't even know exists is impossible.

Can't blame people heading to the better known Fast Food Restaurants now can we?

Bit of a big question because the choice in London these days is infinitely better. Any Londoner could probably recommend a long list of great places to eat, but if you're dining alone, don't want to spend a fortune, and don't want to take any risks, then I'd suggest going to somewhere like a Carluccio or Pizza Express. Service is always quick, and the food's fresh. They're chains, so you'll not have to look far to find one in Central London.

If you like Chinese, go to Chinatown. Pick any one that has Chinese people dining in it. For Japanese, Yo Sushi is unbeatable.

For Indian, I know it's a cliche, but Brick Lane is the best. And cheapest.

If you want to grab a snack, can't beat Pret a Manger. Nicer and pricier is the deli counter at Selfridges.

If you are going to see one of the girls in Baker Street, then try Royal China and go for some dim sum. It's nearby and bloody delicious! Also it's light food and won't leave you bloated.

I dont eat before a punt, i drink plenty of Pineapple juice to ensure my spunk tastes ok in case of snowballing and lots of water.

After a punt like some others i am ravenous and need fast food rather than interested in going to a restaurant. A nice greasy Doner Kebab, KFC or Fish and Chips usually does the job.

I'm like that too, I've often wondered why.

I'll eat something light an hour or so before, as I would before any bout of exercise, to ensure my blood sugar doesn't run low during the punt.

Seems anathema to me to eat a large meal before a punt because it wakes up the digestive system. I want it shut down during bedroom antics.

I'll have to try that. I do drink lots of pomegranate juice, which has zinc in it for volume. I was surprised how much came out when a girl gave me a hand job last Sunday, so something seems to be working.

I prefer morning Punting on an empty stomach.

Like smiths PJ is a regular and essential part of the diet for the same reason, snowballing and it most certainly does work though you need to partake in advance, not just before.

Afters is a nice fry up, something like an 'Olympic Breakfast' at a Little Chef which is usually doable as I'm mostly traveling a fair way on trunk roads.

The Pro$$ie says yes.

If you're punting and presumably on your own, I would have thought you'd be limited to KFC and McDonalds etc anyway. I wouldn't want to be sat on my own in some fancy restaurant.

Personally I only consume a sports drink and chew some gum. When in London I follow that up with a pint at the station before heading home.

Sounds like a plan

My only difference is cappuccino and sausage bap for breakfast.

I was trying to be trendy but dining alone would look sad- not to mention some of these restaurants are either not filling or sell luke-warm or cold food (especially the stalls).

KFC and Beer it is.  :drinks:

I used to have a full fry up at 9 then punt about 11AM I found this was not great, affected the Viagra etc, so now just a bit of toast. If I punt later in the day I dont really worry about food apart from eating something that will give me indigestion or taint my breath, peppers, onions, garlic etc. Went for a "all you can eat buffet" after the last 2 hour punt and slept on the train on the way home, thankfully mine is the last stop and the ticket collector woke me up.

I have a greed for chocolate and one lass commented that the spunk was very sweet. Now that I know about PJ I tend to have a litre the night before and a quarter tin of pineapple chunks or rings. No complaints so far. If you want to make her gag on CIM then asparagus taints your spunk and most lasses find it vile.

I've heard pineapple juice mentioned before but not really understood the purpose. Does your spunk taste of pineapple?? Why pineapple juice in particular?

Makes it taste sweeter as i know from my own when doing snowballing.

Its not just Pineapple Juice, if you look on Google there are other things as well. PJ is just easy for me and i like it anyway. ;)

I noticed that when I was eating more oranges and veg my spunk tasted sweeter. Alcohol can make it taste bitter.

I'd better warn the next unlucky girl I ask for CIM them ... what about pina coladas?

I was looking forward to getting into a weekend routine of pre-booking a gorgeous WG for Saturday sometime, and chilling with a nice bottle of wine Friday evening knowing I've got that lined up.  I did this during the Euros and it was great.
