In my opinion...none but many should be

Offline hantshagger

in my opinion, very few should be.

Are you trying to encourage punters to pay MORE taxes into HMRC than already?       :dash:

Offline Boundless

None
Maybe ask it on UKE.

Are you hoping to claim the VAT back?  :D

If they registered for the flat rate scheme they may actually make a profit on VAT, strange as it sounds.

I estimate at least 40% of escorts will have gross income of above 75k especially if combined with their other job if they have 1....I mean if they are earning £130 an hour...its going to rack up

That alone doesn't make you exempt

However to answer the OP's question I don't know & that's probably because I don't care.

None, if they have any sense.  Why would anyone in a cash business declare more than 82k of income so they could take 20% hit on rates ? :unknown:  Also, they'd have to provide a VAT invoice with their name & address which wouldn't work out well for them.

Yes you can be financially better off on the flat rate scheme, but that would not make up for the hit you would take in having to register.

Offline NIK

The vast majority won't be registered for income tax never mind VAT!

Or income tax, if they can avoid it...

So tampons are a luxury but taxis must be essential. You couldn't make it up. Let's hope your female passengers "splash out" on the tampons and not the back seat of the taxi.

your lack of understanding of the tax system clearly shows that's another one of your lies  :music:

Offline unclepokey

I confess I wasn't up to speed with the VAT registration threshold but it seems to me the figure of £82 k represents a good income by any standards.
Naturally expenses do differ. And there's bugger all in the way of VATable costs that a sex worker would incur except possibly working hotels for 'notional incalls'.
So it seems to me that a WG would be better off taking a holiday were her gross income to approach the registration threshold.

Tax people used to use the expression 'pure income profit' to describe items of income with extremely low if any related costs. In the present case the 'pure' makes one laugh. (I digress slightly)

Imagine a fifth of your income going off in Vat. It doesn't bear thinking about. It is, however, vital to pay your income tax and NI.

Explain

You are VAT registered or VAT Exempt

You are then usually a Sole Trader,  Limited Company or Partnerships

Sole traders can be VAT Registered or VAT exempt depending on turn over (Nothing to d with tuning in bed)

If they have a good accountant then none as he should let them know when they are getting to close to the level so they can take extended time off. Being VAT registered is a hassle that can be done without in this job. Can you imagine punters faces if every time they punted they got a VAT receipt?  No one wants a paper trail of any kind

But I bet you would go off your brain if a punter said the money he was spending on seeing you he put on his expenses! I know guys who do that and one told a girl that and she went literally crazy!

There are numerous tax clampdowns being done by the IR. They do these amnesty things for various self employed people. Matter of time before escorts are specifically targeted by getting IP addresses off aw. With our freedoms getting eroded every day, I agree with your comment about paper trail but I would add the electronic footprint is equally as problematic.

Why is that any more of a hassle for the punter than being given a receipt in Tesco for a cash transaction? We can just throw it away, we're not going to be able to reclaim the VAT!

Have to agree, Pro$$ies being registered for tax is just an Urban myth, and they love to mention accountants but have clearly never had dealings with them, why would they, its a cash business and there's no way they want to pay tax / Ni / lose benefits etc  :music:

Didn't rebecca offer to prove she paid tax as a pro$$ie, that was a couple of years ago and we're still waiting  :unknown:

I am sure there are some pro$$ies who pay tax, those who want to own property for example but they are very rare.

Prostitution is a 100% cash business, there is simply no need to pay tax ------------ plus they will lose their benefits.  :hi:

Pro$$ies don't like paying for condoms so why would they emply an accountant and pay him (there are also female accountants, but you wouldnt know that) to generate a tax bill and problems for them, far easier to just stick the cash in a draw and say nothing.

Exactly, I have known pro$$ies with no credit on their phone, they would not want to pay an accountant £500 ------- that is roughly what I pay every year.

Offline David1970

I used to visit a lady in Newcastle who paid tax, had an accountant.
She put everything throught the books she could, income and expenditure.
Her profession was down as massure.
Do not know if she was paying VAT.
She was switched on and retired to the South of France with a nice pension at a reletively young age.

Lots of sour grapes on here,- just like the EEs who clean/ valet your car, clean your windows, fix your taps,or any other self-employed bod, some will declare it if they have any sense, as "entertainers" or " therapists",especially if they dont want to fall foul of the many money-laundering  traps these days, others wont,- if they are stupid enough to claim benefits and paste their face photo online, they deserve what they get-from what I hear the money aint what it used to be ten/ fifteen years ago,so I doubt in reality most have reached the Vat thresh-hold, when they had twenty competitors working in a County, now there are literally 100s,so a lot more smaller pieces of the pie, most of which are Ees and legally allowed to send most of the money home to the family without paying Uk tax, I would be more concerned about Aw getting hacked,( if it hasnt already), and those mugs who have proved their identity in order to pay "Vat"-
(like you have to when you buy something from a shop,or online-really lol)- having all their details online for all to view, including a future Labour Govt?
