Author Topic: The Ashley Madison news has scared me! An AdultWork hack? Removing info  (Read 5715 times)

Imagine an Adult Work hack?
Fuck!

I've removed myself from AW now and need to wait a Month before my account is completely gone - or is it?
Do they still store information? If so how could I have it removed permanently?

Banning reason: Abusive arrogant fluffy

An AW hack would be worrying...thankfully the only information I have on there is my "punting information"...I've never put any card details in as I don't do cams or buy galleries etc.

Offline David1970

I do not buy or use my credit card on AW.
False name, false email.
Do not email or contact WG on AW.
If you do feel worried.

Offline cueball

Oh no

If aw gets hacked they will get my false name, my punting email address and my punting phone number.

And they will know who's in my hotlists too

I actually have an Ashley Madison account from a while back when I signed up to it to see what it was all about.  I didn't get anywhere with it, but I still have the account and get some spam emails from them.  I'm not married or even in a relationship, was just looking for NSA hookups.

Anyway, that means my details were probably in that list of details that got leaked, but it's not really an issue for me as I don't think anyone's going to go searching for it.  The same is pretty much true of AW.  If there were a big leak, I doubt anyone who knows me would think to see if I've got an account.

Remember that there were millions of accounts, so it's not like your name will be splashed across the front page (unless you are someone famous perhaps).  It will most likely be lost in the sea of names unless someone might decide to search for you - whether or not that's a possibility is for you to decide.

Offline arthur

Apparently some divorce proceedings have already begun after the leak, of the millions of accounts the majority of spouses will never know but a fraction are searching and some of them finding accounts held by their other half.

With A/W you are dealing with low lifes who have no interest in helping punters so I wouldn't trust them, but then I have known that for many years.

Offline arthur

Also with the Ashley Madison hack, there are so many dating websites even a suspicious spouse would probably not bother to search the details, whereas AW is a very specific market. If it made the news with regards to a hack, any wife that had an inkling of their husband seeing prostitutes (eg. large sums of money being withdrawn, punting phone, or caught them on AW previously) would be able to log into their accounts and see their whole history.

Offline two20

Regardless of how big the hack is, to check is so simple I'm sure many suspicious OH will be checking it out.

Likewise.  No hacker will ever get any useful information about me from AW or any "adult" site, because no such site holds that sort of information.

Even if you're married and registered under your real name (why would anyone do that, FFS?), you'd need to have a pretty unusual name to stand out from the crowd.  Just say it isn't you.  Millions of guys on there.

Only two things might trip you up: using your regular email address, which is unique to you and known to your wife (again,  WHY?), or a credit card number.  You don't need a credit card to book an escort, and there are other ways of buying credits.

Punting phone with unregistered sim card, topped up by cash only.
Would NEVER submit card details or register anywhere with real name etc.

Way to foolish.

Unfortunately, you have no way of telling.  From a bit of investigation, they are using a 3rd party payment processor, so they shouldn't be holding your credit card details. You can never tell for sure though.

The reason they went after Ashley Madison is because there were polite requests to remove the fake female profiles as 95% of genuine users are men but they don't represent themselves as genuine and are conning men out of money.  Wondering if AW put these fake profiles up themselves or not ?

I have long thought that A/W post up some of the PG scam profiles themselves, make some credits then delete the profiles and post more up, extremely easy for them to do this, cant prove it though.

well said..  don't let any suspicions arise in first place... think about the answers to awkward questions like.. where you have been .?. why this cash is withdrawn, what u did with it..?

if u are in London use a separate oyster card for punting..  :) using your regular oyster card/contactless payment card makes your travel easily traceable..

I believe AM hack was due to the married element of the site and not necessarily sex so can't see why they would hack AW. basic hacking is quite easy and if you spend some time and effort you would be very surprised what is are or not on the Internet

Agree with much of the above.

Don't tell AW any personal information unless it's false.

Wrong

Majority of punters on AW are probably cheating, hence are a married element.  Have no idea why you cannot see this, they are constantly being targeted with DDOS attacks and have closed down for a few weeks because of past hacks.

I think your thinking of it wont affect me is a bit naive.

ive bought awork credit a few times with my card, oh well...

I suppose if aw got hacked, it would be a worry, especially when my profile has my real name, which I'm going to change

Offline Trinity

Please try and listen. AM is aimed exclusively at people cheating for sex. AW is about sex. Simples

The hack was due to the fact everyone one on AM is cheating that's is business model. That's what the hackers were supposed to be doing it for. Probably not, but equally what about POF, people are on there for sex and use real details etc so everyone who has ever done an Internet search for anything sex related is open to be hacked.

All a scam to extract Money but the official hack line was due to infidelity

DNA hacks are simple to close sites and make people nervous especially if you wife might find your pic profile etc, aw in general no punter has photos on there, why would you?

False e mails, no CC etc etc no contest, how are the hackers supposed to use false info as leverage for blackmail.. Erm they can't

Now you listen, people exposed on adultwork can be blackmailed to even with employers to and is more damaging, ARE YOU STILL LISTENING a high majority of AW users have lots to lose to. ARE YOU LISTENING..

LISTEN shagging a prostitute when in a relationship is infidelity.

LISTEN

Where is this list of Ashley Madison hacked people?I thought it was full of made up bollocks, fake names and celebrities and to be taken with a pinch of salt?

Offline doobes

I wouldn't be that concerned about a hack of AW.

Regarding, cc data. If the group is sophisticated enough to hack the payment processors, the motive will be to sell the details on the darknet rather than take any moral stance.

And if you're using personal details on AW then you're at the mercy of unscrupulous WGs already. Case in point, I've recently had a well reviewed WG search the combination of my username and name and come up with the obscure film reference I use.

Indeed - I always assumed anything I put on there would be a risk so I put nothing true at all.
