I'm a film student, and a recent inductee to the punting scene, but I'm intrigued by the idea of exploring this site and adultwork and even SAAFE in the form of a documentary - one from the point of view of the punters not the escorts.

Is that something any of you would watch on TV or is it a foolhardy idea?
Banning reason: Multiple accounts (iamnightwing, eyeline)

I'd watch it but I wouldn't be foolhardy enough to volunteer myself for an interview.

Offline Anadin

I'll watch anything to do with the sex industry as it's all fascinating but I too wouldn't be involved.

As the WGs often say, "you can film me but I'll wear a mask"  :D

I'd watch it but I value my privacy too much to feature in a documentary. My guess is most punters feel the same. I'm sure there would be interest in a show but I would hope it gave a balanced view of what I think most UKP regard as punting - eg, not kerb crawling, pimped etc etc

You won't be allowed to present an end product that resembles or is anything close to reality. Audience figures are the most important, and the reality is relatively boring. I'd watch it, but most of those in the know will just mock it, just as has happened with every other such documentary that has been aired. That latest one is a classic example - those two girls were on a different planet and far from being the norm.

Plus of course you won't find any typical punter, or prostitute, willing to participate. Only the attention seekers and prima donnas, who form a miniscule section of the 'community' will put themselves forward. A lot of the detail is boring, and the interesting stuff about human sexuality etc, which is the real crux of the matter would be regarded as too graphic and you wouldn't be able to air that either. That's why no programme on this subject is ever anywhere near close to the truth.

Having said that, I don't think programme makers or the powers that be produce accurate meaningful results in the vast majority of documentaries anyway. I watch documentaries that are about subjects I know well and I wince at the errors and mis-information, that are often there just to catch headlines and raise the profile. Look at what has happened to the Attenborough output. In recent years he has been reduced to doing voiceovers just to give credibility to poor material and production.

I agree entirely with Aspen's post.

On a slightly different topic, I noticed this at the beginning of the year:

No information on exactly when it will be shown, and it will no doubt be subject to the usual 'requirements' of a sex documentary on Channel 4. But as someone who has only ever used parlours, I'll be interested.

I will appear if you fund the next 20 punts so we have some fresh content to discuss.

I think I've said it before but certainly the subject matter, Adultwork, is ripe for a documentary maker. I think you can guarantee though that there'll be no cooperation from the operators !

Produce it independently and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo

A lifetime's worth of punts funded by you and I am in ;)

Offline iamnightwing

obviously anyone filmed would be wearing a mask or be blurred out - privacy and protection is at the forefront of my planning, even WGs would be subject to the same protection offered.
I received a message from someone on this forum that told me that due to a filmmaker reneging on her privacy contract with him, he lost his family and home and livelihood, and trust in these situations is very hard to come by.
There's nothing i can say that would reassure someone that I can keep their confidence and keep them protected, apart from the fact that I'm one of you, so by pushing any of you into shit, I'd be doing it to myself.
I've decided to go for it, and produce it independently so I can keep control over the content shown and give a true and balanced view of this industry - if anyone is interested in being on film for it, to discuss the pros and cons of sites like adultwork, and the very nature of why we punt, message me, I can promise discretion.

And it'll cost you an extra fifty quid.
