Author Topic: Blood donations and punting  (Read 1319 times)

I had to smile today reading in the paper that one of the things that stops you donating blood is if you or you OH have had sex with a prostitute in the last year.

Just wondered for those of us that are married how you have managed to tell your OH why they cannot be a blood donor?

Do you take the view that as long as no BB it is OK?

Do you suggest that she gets a tattoo - another reason not to give blood?

They surely cannot expect a high level of voluntary compliance with this rule - whilst we can decide not to donate they surely do not expect loads of women to know that their OH is punting?

Of course for some of us it is not an issue - the lack of sex at home being the reason for punting!!!

The official mind is wonderful at generating this kind of rubbish.

I used to fill up a security form which asked "Have you been involved with covert operations controlled by a foreign power?".

You catch lots of spies with this method.

It's that one and the "were you a member of the National Socialist Party of Germany during the period 1933-45?" that get me.

Of course, it's not that they expect to catch any spies/nazis by this method, but rather that they have a reason to kick you out if you've failed to declare it.

a bit like a doctor asking a teenage girl in front of her father - "is there a possibility you might be pregnant"!!!

I have heard of that several times.

The rules are stupid. You can't donate if you have had covered oral from a prossie in the last 12 months, but if you've banged 20 slappers bareback over the last year, it's fine.   :wackogirl:

I used to give blood but after a blood transfusion, I'm not allowed to donate ever again, so I can punt away to my hearts content.

In the old days before the ESTA visa waiver scheme, anyone travelling to the USA had to declare, on a bit of green card, that they hadn't ever been convicted of crimes involving 'moral turpitude'.  I never knew what this meant, but daydreaming about all my moral turpitude meant those long-haul flights used to go a lot quicker than they do today :)

Moral turpitude conjours up an image of the scene in Porkys' with Beulah Balbricker. Not a pretty sight either!!

We should not forget that the blood transfusion service managed to spread HIV about, in the early days. precisely because they assumed that no one with a disease would donate blood.

They did not consider testing the blood even on a the basis of random sampling.

They relied on accurate answers to stupid questions.

The same stupidity now infests many organisations such as banks, building societies, car insurance and so on.
Stupid rules, no common sense.
