Yesterday my credit card provider texted me saying my credit card was at risk of fraud and blocking my account. When I rang them for more info the girl said 'the last transaction was to Awork 3 days ago - is that correct sir?' Maybe it was my imagination but I thought I could hear her sniggering in the background. I had to admit that it was and now have to go through all the hassle of changing my credit card. Her indoors says it's never happened to her and that I should change my cc provider. Of course it may be that Adultwork are completely blameless in this but I just can't take that risk so won't be buying any more AW credits. Comments anyone?

Always read the fine print  :drinks: Personally i think awork is a rather generic name.

"If you purchase using the default method for VISA or MasterCard, it will show as awork.co.uk.  (At awork.co.uk is a generic form that will allow you to make an enquiry about any purchase.)"

When you get your new card never use it again on AW. Google 'awork', first hit is this: External Link/Members Only

That was better than an episode of EastEnders.

OP - you are a complete bell end.  Using your credit card on AW    :sarcastic:  Get a pre-paid credit card & top up in cash.  Or pay for private gallery etc by text.  Bet the person @ the credit card company was sniggering.  They must get it all the time:  awork / porn sites / lap-dancing bars & brothels etc.  The staff must laugh their tits off when some bloke phones up & has to sort this.  And fuck me - 1st line searching goggle for awork !

I probably sound thick but why would using your card on AW get your card blocked??? I've used mine before to buy credits and it wasn't blocked. I don't get it.

Some of us are getting it at home and still punt, probably because we can.

Being a fucking dirty scumbag is underrated

yeah im one of those lucky few!

But i do believe families should be kept together if possible at whatever cost. These women claim to love their kids but dont think about the damage they do to them for the sake of their pride. And advising someone to leave or divorce when you dont know either of the people, their situation or the facts about what happened is fucking irresponsible! These bitches need to get off of their high horses and just give the posters the facts! she asked if anyone knew what the website was......not what peoples opinion of its users are!!

......but why does the card get blocked - I'm getting anxious now :scare:

Because I think the payment processor they use is based in some very dodgy country so it flags up as potential fraud after about the second or third £5 credit purchase within a month. Or it could very likely be flagging it as its considered money laundering as you are buying literally virtual credits in some far away third world country that banks don't like as it is effectively a part of money laundering (hence why buying bitcoins is still so difficult and cannot be bought by Credit card).

When I first started punting and went a small bit crazy buying PGs and thus credits I found pretty much straight away the cards would become blocked for red flag purchases on them and I would need to phone up my bank to get them re-enabled again. All three of my Credit cards this happened to very quick.

The people in the bank likely wont know what Awork is - they certainly cannot google as they will have no internet access as the bank will be worried about Data protection breaches. The only way they will know about Awork is if they use it themselves.

But how often do you buy credits and how many?

Like I say three £5 credit purchases in a month is what will usually get mine blocked until I phone and confirm it was me who did it.

Maybe 5 times a year, each transaction for £5.      :hi:

I would never give a site run by low lifes like A/W my credit card details in this lifetime but then I wont buy credits off A/W on principle anyway.

Like it or loathe it, AW appears to be very good at what it does. Why on earth would they put that at risk by either selling their customer's credit card details to fraudsters or becoming fraudsters themselves,  or both? I don't get it. Well, they've lost any future business from me.

Offline Fragilehand

next time busy a 18+ UKash voucher! you get them at any shop with paypoint if the lass behind the counter looks at you funny just utter,
"this online poker is costing me a bloody fortune"
never use your card online for adult websites its a nightmare waiting to happen

You can buy ukash via the becharge.co.uk site using a credit card but that caused my card to be locked and I had a call from visa about 10 mins after I'd used it

quote womens thinking
You need to have a think what you are willing to tolerate

Shagging a prostitute is a deal breaker but phone sex is not ?

An attached man joining a dating site is ok ?

marrying a feckless cocklodger is something you are prepared to do ?

I don't mean to fire questions at you, but I have the horrible feeling he is going to wriggle off the hook here and you will marry this absolute twat unquote

card blocked because aw payment is based in some far flug country so this can flag up a problem ,
not hard to get working again just ring up and say
yes i did make that payment
then fine again

I use my debit card for adult work, and never had any problems, and card has never been blocked, as for your credit card company; think all you need to do is tell them the truth, yes you did use your card to buy credits, so as for your card being blocked, don't think its any of there business

Don't forget there the data protection act, so even if you told them you have used your card to buy credits, tell them to unblock your card

It seems its the banks are the ones who think you are at risk of fraudulent transactions, not us; if you faced fraudulent transaction on aw, then surely that would be the end of aw

My card just got blocked when I tried to pay my kandco account off. Works fine on aw. I have had to verify my last transaction with my bank, which once was adultwork lol

Quite right, they can't (or shouldn't anyway), I'm just saying they know that's all.

This may have been covered above, but...

OP - does her indoors see the credit card statement and if so doesn't she wonder why you're paying AW, or are you hoping she doesn't know what it is?

Each to their own mate, but for me that would be a serious breach of the punters code of practice!

Online companies that allow you to anonymously buy credits (of any type, porn, gambling etc) are often used by card thieves to turn stolen cards into cash.  They can load up an account with credits and then sell it without having a traceable route back to the thief.  So, a card which is used for this type of purchase will flag up a possible fraud warning, and be blocked until the card issuer can confirm the purchase was genuine.

It's not a good idea to use credit/debit cards (other than the pre-paid type) for adultwork.  Banks increasingly look at your purchase history for assessing credit risk / affordability on certain financial products (e.g. mortgages). Adult services are one of those things  (along with gambling) that can increase your perceived risk.

Offline flash1965

I've had no issues using MasterCard on AW used it loads and no problem, and if it was blocked who cares about phoning a call centre to get it unblocked it’s only a phone call totally anonymous you aren’t going to meet them

Just read that mumsnet thread, or as much as I could be arsed with.

How fucking much was he putting on there a month?! Jesus wept, more money than sense some people. He must be paying for cams I imagine, or buying a whole shit load of PG's.

The mind boggles. Am I in the minority by never having paid any money to AW? Can't see the point...I give enough cash to the WG's. Look after the pennies, and all that...

Could be one of two reasons:

1. The spend with Aw was 'oops' = out of pattern spend - triggering a call to you to check if it's really you spending with aw. No reason to block your card if you confirm the transaction was genuine though.

2. Your card issuer may have had a spate of fraudulent transactions with aw. That could trigger blocking and reissuing your card.

  :drinks:

I used my credit card last week to get credit on Adultwork and a few days later had my bank contact me to say my card had become compromised! They had stop a transaction going through on online betting site and once they established it was not me they cancelled the card and issued me a new one. I won't be making that mistake again! However the lady I talked too on the phone was very professional and when A Work was mentioned as being the last time I used the card I did not feel she cared what the site was and was just happy to establish when I had and had not used the card.

I cannot believe there is a bank in the world with the resources to look at your income and expenditure in that much detail. They'll look at monthly totals and average trends and may ask you how much you spend on bills and socialising etc but they aren't going to take any notice of a small sum to an online company.
